Their live version of The night they drove old dixie down from The Last Waltz…
Up on Cripple Creek is another great one from The Band 😊❤
You love live music, you love voices singing in harmony. Why not have them both in the same song? Check out Seven Bridges Road by the Eagles. I guarantee it makes the 4Runner. If it doesn't, I'll buy you so much coffee you will be bouncing off the walls! Lol, enjoy!
I'm not on patreon
@@charlesm9929 great harmonies on that one for sure!
Great song, but you need to check out the Last Waltz version with The Staple’s Singers. It’s amazing.
The version with the staples is one of the best performances all time🎶🎶🎶🎶
… do yourself a favour and get a copy of” the last waltz” … It’s the Martin Scorsese version of the bands last concert… There is a lot of great music in that movie
Watching "Last Waltz" will be a night you will never forget. It captures soooo many legends at their prime. Read up about the movie before you watch it so you know whats going on. One of Spielbergs ealy movies. Still considered THE best live music movie EVER! I've given it to at least 25 people for Christmas/birthday presents.
Yes, do this
This. We watch it every Thanksgiving.
“The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” is great, too.
great song!
I hate it. It's an amazing song but it's celebrating the "lost cause" idea of the south and Robert E. Lee who was an evil person. No need to celebrate or lament the loss of a war literally fought to keep kidnapping Black people and enslaving them.
Yes !
I'm 74 years old and have been playing music most of it. I love your reactions. The world is full of critics and experts but none of it would matter if it weren't for people like you who just love the sound of it. Keep up the good work.
72 here, retired Navy. I'm grateful for Polo, he's getting new ears on classics. Can't beat that.
GREAT Reaction!!! You would love "Up on Cripple Creek" by these guys. Unique sound. Never a band like them, before or since.
All time fave from The Band!
They originally played back up for Bob Dylan and were referred to as "Bob Dylan and the band". They just decided, okay, we're The Band.
They "Originally" played with Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks. They toured as Bob's band on his first electric tour after hearing them as just The Hawks, or Levon and the Hawks when they left Ronnie to go on their on.
When they toured with Dylan, Levon Helms refused. He said he was not Bob Dylans band.@@denroy3
@@denroy3 Dylan wanted Robbie Robertson. Robertson wanted his bandmates as well. Dylan said yes and that is how the group that Hawkins put together became Dylan's backing band. Helm actually quit the tour and the band and was later talked into coming back to the group by Robertson months after touring with Dylan ended.
Ohhh nice! Never knew that
@@BobSoltis1 Helms said. "I am not Bob Dylans back up band" and refused to tour with them.
Levon Helm another rare amazing lead singing drummer. Makes it seem so easy. peace
Polo, Trying to touch base as requested but cannot locate that contact info. Lmk best method. Great show. Peace
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song... With that being said, the version performed with the Staple Singers is out of this world in comparison. "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" is a must listen...
Joan Baez kills "The night they drove old Dixie down". A singer for the ages
No, it's great too...but I love this.
@@janetcarlson9960changed the lyrics to make it ridiculous. Won't listen to because of that.
You should also check out the Playing for Change version of the Weight. It's a masterpiece.
"The night they drove old dixie down" live version from farewell concert. Keep the classics coming!
The Band used to be Bob Dylan’s back up band until they went out on their own. They are credited with creating the genre of music called Americana….even though the band was four Canadians and on American. They had three lead singers, Levon Helm, Rick Danko and Richard Manuel. Robbie Robertson wrote their lyrics. The only living member now is Garth Hudson. Martin Scorcese ( famous director ) made a documentary of their last time on stage, called “ The Last Waltz “ Many famous friends performed as well
Canada is a larger part of the North American continent than the U.S. Does this make the Canadians more American than the United States citizens? Thank you for reminding us of the passing of these great musicians.
Lol 😂. I never understand why we in US call ourselves Americans. North American yes but we don't own the the continent.
@@erinnswan7063 It’s automatic, because it’s in the name…..the United States of AMERICA! I mean you wouldn’t want to call yourself “ Statesians “ that would sound silly. Also nearly all Europeans will say they are going to visit America, and they mean the U.S. not North America. Most Canadians will say “ the States “ as “ I’m going to the States for the weekend “ or refer to the specific state
@@jimlewis6743 Canadians don’t consider themselves American. Americans have no choice as the name of your country is “ The United States of AMERICA “. Most European and Asian countries refer to the U.S. as America, and they don’t mean Canada nor Mexico.
ask ole Amerigo Vespucci about that@@jimlewis6743
Saw these guys at Sunday Break 2 at the Steiner Ranch near Austin Texas in 1976. I was 16 and hitch-hiked from Killeen with my girlfriend, Karen.
The groups were England Dan & John Coley, Firefall, The Band, Chicago, Steve Miller and Fleetwood Mac. One of my best teenage memories.
The Band are one of the most influential bands in music. When you’re driving around in the 4runner, listen to the Last Waltz from beginning to end. A few folks from the music industry stop by to play with the guys. I had to smile when you said there was no way you would have listened to this when you were twenty. When I was twenty I had already been a fan for ten years, since Up on Cripple Creek came out in late 1969. They have a long list of great, unique songs.
Loved that tune growing up as we lived close to a place named Cripple Creek in Colorado. I was 6 and remember it like the Mach 1 across the street that I lusted after. That song and some ear worm named 'Dizzy' I still can't get out of my head lol.
Been waiting for you to do this one....checkout the live version they do with Staples as well...Always great rolling into your channel ... nicely done Sir
Absolutely! The Band & The Staples were a match made in heaven! 😉♥
The Last Waltz. One of the best concert films ever!!! So many great performances!! Must see!!!
@@tinalinge2782 I was going through some tv channels few years ago and by chance got to see it - it was AMAZING! Like you said - so many good performances :) Also after that I watched very interesting documentary "We were brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band" from 2019
The late great Robbie Robertson still soothing our souls.
The Band were THE Band. So much talent, so little ego. Just a quality group of guys making amazing music.
As a band, they may have had little ego…, but Robbie Robertson (R.I.P.) had sufficient ego for all of them.
The Band's history is fascinating. The Band was Bob Dylan's backing band (then called The Hawks) when Dylan went electric in 1965. The Band were all Canadian except for the lead singer of this song, Levon Helm, who was from Arkansas and was also their drummer. Sang from the drum kit.
After playing as Dylan's touring band for about 3 years, these guys moved to Woodstock NY (before the Woodstock festival). After recording a ton of songs with Dylan that became legendary as The Basement Tapes,
they started working on their first album called Music From Big Pink (they lived in a pink house in that rural Woodstock area). They decided to change their name simply to THE BAND, because people were always asking "who is that Band backing up Dylan?" etc.
So Big Pink came out in 1968 and was a huge success. They were the OPPOSITE of the Flower Power San Francisco/LA bands that were so popular in 1967 (Summer of Love) and 1968. They were down home, rootsy, and more traditional, and ironically as mostly Canadians, were the starting point for what is now called AMERICANA music. Not country, but rootsy folky traditional storytellers. Robbie Robertson was the main writer, but they had 3 different vocalists and 4 writers of songs. They traded vocals frequently and traded instruments. They used accordians, old organs, fiddles, mandolins.
Their 2nd album came out right around the Woodstock Music Festival in Aug 1969, and they played at Woodstock in their own "back yard". The 2nd album is just called The Band, aka the Brown album. Its their masterpiece. Tons of iconic songs. Its a must hear album.
You may have already heard some of their songs. Up on Cripple Creek was a big hit, The Night They Drove old Dixie Down was big, especially after Joan Baez covered it. Chest Fever, I Shall Be Released (written w Dylan) is now an iconic standard, Rag Mama Rag. Their songs evoke rural old time America and are just great stories. They have been hugely influential on Alt Country, roots rock, Americana.
Those first 2 albums especially are just chock full of gems. A great BAND to explore.
I hate it when people don't talk about how The Band were put together by Ronnie Hawkins and played with him (Ronnie Hawkins and The Hawks) before anyone heard about Bob Dylan.
I have no idea where you get the idea that The Band toured with Dylan for three years before they did their own thing. They only toured with Dylan from Sept 1965 to May 1966 and most of that time was without Helm who had quit the tour and the band.
THIS IS AMAZING, THEY DONT MAKE THEM LIKE THIS ANYMORE ❤❤❤❤❤
Watkins Glen ...
The first time they played this for Bob Dylan, Bob asked 'Who wrote this?' Robbie Robertson said 'I did' He said Bob looked surprised and said 'You did?' Robbie said 'Yes' and Bob just nodded his head. Robbie said he knew then that he had arrived as a songwriter. RIP Robbie!
There is a version of this song by Playing For Change, with artists around the world that is just jaw dropping. Robbie Robertson plays on it as does Ringo Starr (The Beatles)
Absolutely amazing
The film version with the Staples Singers is a must!! Polo, you will swoon ! Best version ever! ❤
You'd love to see the live version from the movie "The Last Waltz" with the Band and the Staples' Singers. The whole movie The Last Waltz is worth watching.
💯
That version was not really "live". It was performed numerous times in a studio and the best parts were spliced together.
Nazareth Pennsylvania is where the Martin guitar companies headquarters and they have a music festival that sells out all the hotels. This song was also in the movie Easy Rider
Many of us listened to this at 20, along with Janis, Greatful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Turtles and other wonderful and goofy bands.
I first heard this in 1968 when it came out and I was 10. My dad used to play it with our neighbor out on the porch and all the kids would come over and sing the chorus.
It is a great memory from my childhood.
Check out their song It Makes No Difference.. a beautiful song that seems to have the essence of this group wrapped up in it
Phenomenal song, even for the band.
Rick Dankos vocals on It Make No Difference are amazing
Their version with The Staples will take you to church. Mavis comes in with her powerful amazing voice. The movie The Last Waltz is great. The Band's last tour and they had great guest singers joining them
One of my favorite Band songs.Love Levon Helm's voice.Robbie Robertson was such a great song writer. R.I.P. boys.
Levon Helm is the drummer and sings most of the song but you were right when you said it sounded like a different singer- that was Rick Danko, who also was laying the gorgeous bass line.
Levon Helm most definitely did NOT sing most of the songs.
@@BobSoltis1 most of the song under review.
One of the few bands where every member can sing his ass off.
True, as long as Robbie's mic is turned off.
Garth didn't sing. He let his instruments sing.
Richard, Rick, and Levon were all great singers.
3 lead singers, Robbie wasn't much of a singer, Garth didn't sing at all.
@@kbrewski1 It's true, I don't remember Robbie singing with the Band, but afterwards, in his solo works, he actually sounded pretty good.
Can't get tired of you reacting to the best music ever!! I know people are going to talk about the Last Waltz, but the original is just fantastic!!
First musicians to be on the cover of time magazine. They all are top of their positions and most sing. First was the great Leon Helm who is considered one of the greatest drummers, then the bass player with a normal guitar Rick Danko with the awesome Robbie Robertson backup. Garth Hudson and Richard Manuel the genuis behind this great band played piano organ and everything else u hear. Saw live a few times and was blown away with the sound and style they created. True professionals and the name was perfect. THE BAND. thanks Polo
Levon Helm, the drummer and lead singer, is from my home state of Arkansas.
“‘Crazy Chester’ was based on someone I saw in Fayetteville, Ark., when I was 16. There was this guy in a wheelchair who was kind of nuts. He’d roll into the town square, and when girls went by, he’d call out, ‘Hoocha, baby, hoocha.’ It was like a tic,” added Robertson.
God I love this song. When I hear it, I picture it being played toward the end of a good party when we're all just sitting around a table or fire pit just having a chill conversation. Great reaction.
"Sounds like a Sunset", that is a great description!
Fantastic band, and a song we had to learn as kids. Great song, great reaction.
Also the one with Ringo and Robbie Robertson starting is excellent. Playing for change.
The city of Nazareth mentioned at the beginning of the song is Nazareth, Pennsylvania where Martin guitars are manufactured.
A little trivia, this singer was on the movie, the shooter with Mark Walberg. He was the back woods guy with the Knowledge with rifles.
For me,a simple 63 year old solo sailor that grew up in the 70s. Not wagging my tail too hard when I say, I've seen most of the greats of the 60s-1990. I watch quite a few reaction channels. While I appreciate your interpretation, I've been listening to this , often live , music for 50 years so interpretation isn't that important to me. My kicks are 2 or 3. First, I remember my brother coming through the door with all these albums. He's 3 years older ,and him saying, Ya gotta hear this. My first concert was 1973 Zeppelin in Tampa Fl . I was 13. No parental supervision. Saw ZZ Top, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd for the first time that summer. Thanks for stirring those memories . Secondly, I haven't listened to them in years,at least not closely. Pink Floyd is on a whole other level. Seeing someone who grew up on rap discover Uncomfortably Numb is awesome to see ,and everyone gets that rhythmic lean going unconsciously. Third, there's just nothing out there that interests me. The news sucks. I haven't owned a TV in 17 years and don't miss it. Your reactions are an escape from the anxiety if daily life, and the riggers of an existence at sea so keep it up. For fun I'll recommend some Trop-rock. Try Kenny Chesney's, No Shirt No Shoes No Problems. Fun little song. Great message. Jimmy Buffet, and Kenny inspired me to go to sea. Miss ya Captain. Capt.Bob SV ( Sailing Vessel ) 27th Chance, Tampa Fl, USA 🇺🇸
There is so much good music from The Band. Well worth exploring.
Heard this song a million times during my life but never knew this was the name of the band. Learn something new everyday! I think we like listening to your commentaries because they take us back to our first time hearing it seeing it through your eyes. Truthfully, I haven't listened to this much of the music I have always loved for a while now. This platform has brought the need back. Thank you.
Mate, you have to listen to the album The Band, or The Brown album. It'll change your life.
Lyrics meaning (my guess): The singer, in the past, had met a young woman who 'loved' everybody, and was known for greeting by saying "Take a load off". In various parts of the song, she is Young Anna Lee, The Devil, Annie, Miss Fanny. They got together, perhaps even married, and then moved out of town. He goes back to the town, perhaps trying to resolve jealousy (he feels every load Annie every took from anyone else) about her previous loves. The song starts, and the guy at the station can't recommend a motel or boarding house, but .... He recalls meeting her when Carmen connects them. He remembers Old Luke's deathbed request that he take care of her. Crazy Chester means well, is harmless, and wants to make amends. As he's getting on the train to go home, tired, but resolved, he passes on Annie's regards for all of her old friends.
[n my opinion this is the greatest song in rock history
i always imagine "Fanny" as Mother Earth. Each verse is a little vignette of how we can carry the Weight. All Nurturance. Bless
The Last Waltz is truly an amazing film.
Their farewell show ‘the last waltz’ is 🔥 from beginning to end. Star studded like you would not believe .
Great f--ing band!! Love Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Robbie Robertson, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel!! Awesome, need to watch The Last Waltz a tribute to their last performance together!! An awesome line up of bands and musicians!!❤️
You need to watch the video from The Last Waltz with the Staples and so many other greats from that show. The Band is legendary.
love this song, but i woulda suggested the last waltz version that has the staples singers as well. Either way, it's a great song.
Another great recording of The Weight was done by Aretha Franklin. It was recorded at the Muscle Shores studios with Duanne Allman on slide guitar, Jerry Wexler on guitar, Jimmy Johnson on saxophone, King Curtis on drums. It is INCREDIBLE!
Fun Fact: Aretha Franklin covered this song with Duane Allman on the slide/guitar and it’s incredible as well… it’s off the This Girl’s in Love with You album from 1970.
Whether you react to it or not, you should check it out. Incredible how it evokes such a different emotion from her interpretation of the song.
As far back as I can remember I've loved this song. Glad you're hearing it and enjoying.
The Band has an amazing history. love them.
We relive the excitement through you! You take us down memory lane. ❤️
Three lead singers. Exceptional musicianship. Three and four part harmonies. Great song writing. One of the best to ever do it👍👍🙏🙏💯💯
LOVE The Band. Great music! Miss Robbie…
This song just makes us smile. Non-sense lyrics, but smiles is more than enough.
I notice you ultimately focus most on a song’s FEELING. Me too. In the end, that’s mostly what music is about.
And please..do live version...so much talent!!!
Was lucky enough to see the Band in the 80's in Las Vegas they opened for Crosby Stills and Nash great memories
Garth Hudson, keyboardist of the Band, is the only living member, aged 86. He was trained as a classical musician, his family strongly disapproved of popular music. He said (in The Band’s concert film The Last Waltz-you need to listen to the album, and see the video if you can) that he received extra compensation for teaching the other members “proper music” to satisfy his parents. RIP:Robbie Robertson (Aug 9, 2023-my 65th birthday), Levon Helm (April 19, 2012; he was the only American in The Band), Rick Danko (1999), Richard Manuel (1986, tragically by suicide after a gig by The Band).
Listen to the entire album Music from Big Pink, their debut. It’s one of my favorites, and absolutely amazing.
Oh, I thought Garth was gone too. Happy to know he is still with us.
A person can have a great start to their day by putting on The Band's Greatest Hits and just letting them play........
Brilliant song. Check out the version from their farewell concert movie "The Last Waltz". Or really anything from that movie.
I respect that you did the original.
The version from The Last Waltz is iconic, but everyone has reacted to it. It reminds me of the home design shows where all homes had to have granite counters & stainless appliances. Everyone does the last waltz version.
Thank you for breaking the monotony.
Very clever lyrics in this, which most people seem to miss, because key phrases go by so fast, just once, like "the Devil" and "Jack, my dog," and then a followup line flips the context so neatly.
My brother, Steve used to sing this song I am brought back to the good old day! I miss you Steve! He passed away several years ago .. thank you for reviewing this song!
I love this song!! I love songs that are stories.
An amazing song. My favorite version features the Staple Singers, taking it to the next level, from The Band's classic concert film The Last Waltz (one of Martin Scorsese's earlier movies as a director) of their final farewell show as a band. A must see film. Performers included Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Wood, and Neil Young!
Seriously, you MUST check out the version from The Last Waltz with The Staple Singers. Mavis and her family put an extra level of superlative oon this song. I would listen to either version but the one with the Staple Singers is the one that I absolutely gravitate to plus I love the little piece of hymn that follows.
One of my favorite songs. Im 46 and love this band
Great song. You really need to listen to this song on "the last waltz";l it's a must!!!!
Love the late, great Levon Helm's voice in lead. He was also one hell of a drummer. The great Buddy Rich, who HATED rock music, was asked by Johnny Carson if there were any rock drummers he liked. Without missing a beat he said: "One! Levon Helm."
My friend and I snuck into the drive-in theater in her sister's trunk to see Easy Rider. We were too young to be legally seeing the movie. The Weight became my favorite song throughout high school.
My favorite songs from The Band are more under the radar. Try Whispering Pines, King Harvest Has Surely Come, Unfaithful Servant, Across the Great Divide, Long Black Veil to really get a sense of what they are all about. Heck, just listen to the first 2 albums, Music From Big Pink and The Band (aka Brown album). Their songs evoke the feeling of sitting on an old rocking chair on a front porch, farmers getting ready for the fall harvest, the carnival on the edge of town etc.
Brother Levon, RIP. Pure soul.
I loved this song as a kid. I never understood the words until much later. That Miss Fannie had imposed on him to visit some folks. I echo the comments on the last waltz version with the Staple Singers. It's ELEVATED.
Definitely have to hear this song with The Band & The Staples Singers. Will take you to church.
Rick Danko is playing electric bass and singing harmony, as well as lead vocals on the fourth verse. It is said that when he was born the angels were singing, and baby Ricky was providing the harmonies.
Crazy talented Band. All multi-instrumentalists, played about 15 different instruments between them. Check out "The Basement Tapes" from The Band and Bob Dylan.
The Band is an amazing group of musicians who created their own unique brand of roots music. Check out Don’t Do It from the live Rock of Ages album. Many others too. They’re a rabbit hole, for sure.
The drummer is the lead singer and plays drums and violin, the second singer plays the stand up bass and the violin. Robby Robertson plays lead guitar....he passed a couple of months ago...in the LAST WALTZ verson has him playing incredible waltz the piano player plays organ, accordian and soprano sax get their music from the LAST WALTZ their last concert that has 20 super star guests...Martin Scorcese filmed it...
the movie ' the last waltz ' by scorsese is a concert film of the bands last concert in 1979 ~ it was held on thanksgiving & began with a complete sit down thanksgiving dinner followed by some ballroom waltzing before the concert even started ~ they had a slate of special guests that were not announced but brot on stage each tyme as a surprise to the audience ~ starting with ronnie hawkins from their first band followed by doctor john / neil young / joni mitchell / paul butterfield / muddy waters / eric clapton / neil diamond / van morrison / & ended with bob dylan ~
can you imagine how the audience would be blown away as each surprise guest appeared one after the other ? holy shit batman ~
RIP Levon, Richard and Robbie! Such great music! The first singer, Levon was a drummer who also sang. See the Last Waltz-you won’t regret it.
just a heads up. Robbie is still alive as is Garth. But sadly Rick Danko is no longer with us.
@@bennybear976 Just a heads up. Robbie Robertson passed in August of this year.
The Band is bomb! This takes me back to another time. Thank you for sharing the Weight. Rock on brother!
Yes, “a different singer there” - a rare band that had 3 of its 5 members who took on lead vocals. Amazing musicians! You have to check out more tracks! “King Harvest”, “Up On Cripple Creek”, “It Makes No Difference”, “Don’t Do It”, “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” …
I was only 12 when this hit the charts but I have listened to it over 55 years...great song, great band!
There is a wonderful version by Playing for Change they sing that harmony around the world.
Your life is about to change! The Band lives up to its name. Best ever, and I grew up in 70s. Check out The Weight with the Staples and the Band. A masterpiece!
Aloha SIR.. these gentleman are superior musicians. The play American music whole heartedly. Stuff alot of people wish they could play. This song I just about sing everyday. Its helping barter fix this fix that. RIP Robbie Robertson. Wrote it . He did slot of solo. So gs that stick out showdown at big sky. Somewhere down the crazy river excellent.
This was one of my favourite bands when I was 20. The last waltz movie and soundtrack had just been released and we were hooked. Still a favourite band.
This kind of music is called "Americana", even though it's made by mostly Canadians with A U.S. citizen, Levon Helm on drums. i was hooked on The Band right from "Chest Fever"!
In my opinion, this is the best song ever written. This is a perfect song, thank you for reacting to it.
these guys were bob dylans band when dylan went electric ~ on their own as their own band they just ended up calling themselves 'the band ' when they couldnt think of anything else they liked ~ 5 guys in the band & 3 of them as main vocalists on different tracks ~ this song was mostly the drummer singing Levon Helm ~ he was the only american in t band ~ the rest were canadian ~ robbie robertson mostly wrote the songs & did back up vocals ~ he just passed into rock n roll heaven august 2023 ~ he also did alot of film music for martin scorsese ~ he scored the music for ' killers of the flower moon ' just before his death & the movie is dedicated to him as well as him being nominated for an academy award for same movie posthumously ~
there are also 2 keyboardists in the band but they all play many instruments including mandolin fiddle accordian saxophone organ piano keyboards ~ major talents ~
This song was on Music from Big Pink, released July 1 1968. It's an album that changed the course of rock music, set it on a whole new different path.
I saw them live, probably 1970.
They were astonishing...brilliant multi-instrumentalists...amazing lyrics and perfectly played music.
My best old friend Jack from Harvard, and I played the first album religiously .
Check out "Old Rockin Chair"
The Band played backup to Bob Dylan early on.
The back-up band when Dylan went electric and got booed every show. Classic
I agree Polo, this song just makes me happy. I was around 10 when this came out and my reaction has never changed. That harmony goes from the top of my head and straight down my spine. The song was written by Robbie Robertson, a Canadian citizen and lead guitarist. I think all the rest of the group are American. The drummer, Levon Helm, is the lead singer on this track. Robbie is part Native Canadian. He was very interested in learning about the experiences of his American band mates and their life experiences. They were all southern born and Robbie managed to use stories they told him to write these songs.
Up on Cripple Creek is another favorite song of mine. If you want a visual/musical treat, I suggest you watch the movie entitled The Last Waltz. The Band had decided to retire and invited many great musicians to play a song or two the The Band one last time. So many greats including Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Muddy Waters. Even Ringo Starr was there. Thanks for this musical walk down memory lane.
@KatieReadsKoziesAndMore actually Robbie, Rick, Garth and Richard were/are all Canadian. Only Levon was American and who's stories inspired most of Robbie's songwriting.
In terms of them "retiring", well there's a lot to unpack there lol they did somewhat continue without Robbie, but wasn't the same. Very sad that Garth is the only one left now with Robbie's recent passing.
The Band is one of my favorite groups of all time. "The Rumor" "Sleeping" and "Old Rockin Chair" are a bit deeper cuts but fantastic tracks
The Rolling Stones have a song called "Jiving Sister Fanny". This song by The Band is one that even if you don't like this type of music you still like this song. Great job Polo !!
I’ve always had a very strong connection with this song. Ever since I was a young teenager, whenever I was going though very hard times, or I needed spiritual guidance, I would pray to god for help or peace. Every time, this song would come on the radio, and I would get the undeniable feeling that this was god telling me it was all going to be ok. I’m 43 now and I don’t listen to the radio much anymore, but literally this morning I prayed out loud asking for healing and guidance. Wouldn’t you know, today you posted this reaction, and once again I feel peace. I’ve told everyone for as long as I can remember that this is mine and gods song. Little things like this remind me that he’s paying attention and hears me. I know this isn’t a godly song, but I have no doubt god loves great music of any kind.
