Didn't understand a thing but enjoyed it nevertheless! Enjoyed listening to you speaking Welsh 😘😘 I was just watching your tutorial on Llanfair PG pronunciation and got hooked to watching your vlog 😂😂
Alrighty then - 'Bardsey is of Norse origin, meaning 'Bard's Island'' from broenlli.com. Was this Island first named by Norse visitors and named after that in Welsh? I wonder and I doubt it. I find 'Ynys Enlli' translated elsewhere as 'Island of tides'. I gather that the welsh language (or versions of it) pre-dates Norse influence. I could be wrong. Should I support the Welsh language by saying Ynys Enlli and reject 'Bardsey Island'? I think I will just in cases! I'm pretty sure that 'Island' is modern English either way. Ynys Enlli it is for me then. broenlli.com have the English version first on their web page. They might want to change that. kind regards Dave
The island has been an important religious site since the 6th century, whereas the Vikings began invading Britain at the end of the 8th century, so Ynys Enlli is most likely the original name
OK - Google translate gives 'Enlli' as 'Bardsey' in English. Really? Maybe you know better. I'm English and 'Bardsey' is just a surname to me. I'm off to look up Bardsey now.
Beautiful vlog , I’m picking Welsh up bit by bit, thanks for this.
