My 2011 R3 and the FD I hope to own someday will absolutely satiate that need for the BrapBrap that has permeated my psyche since I was a teenager.
Instant thumbs up for 7:23 : The main issue in "unreliable" rotaries is the owner/maintainer. It's a maintenance heavy engine. The vast majority of issues people have with them is because it requires special attention, and they don't do it. Bravo for not just going "Lol apex seals". Admittedly - the mass production of the wankel was its ultimate downfall; because from the factory, they had wild tolerance issues that would lead to early engine failure. Additionally there were issues with the factory seal designs and tolerances that further complicated things. I don't blame people for thinking they are unreliable, when they were presented with so many good examples of a wankel done wrong. The aftermarket has done a great job of fixing this - but that doesn't eliminate the fact that no one should own a wankel without expecting and knowing that they require attentive maintenance; let alone expecting these PERFORMANCE engines to be a daily driver. Sure, if you care enough and take care of it, you can daily a wankel. But if you want a dependable daily driver without warming it up before driving, checking the oil frequently, running premix every fuel up, etc.; you need to look elsewhere. I love the wankel "rotary" engines, and I won't say they aren't without their flaws. But the main point is they have so much hate because the average driver is inept at vehicle maintenance and ownership. The same goes with turbocharged cars. It's like owning a nitro car and then being pissed that you have to tear it down after a drag pass. - If you aren't into maintaining it, don't get into it. Nitro cars aren't inherently bad because of it - but they're purpose built. The RX cars were built as sports cars first - not grocery getters.
As I have rented an RX-8, I can say; • There is a triangle on the rear bumper • There are triangles in the headrests • There are triangles in the headlight housings • There is a triangle on the hood • There is a triangle on the front bumper • The paddle-shifters are reversed •The exhaust heats up the center console • It handles well • While I couldn't see any looking in, it sounds like it's spitting flames when you rev it
I had a 94 RX7 in 2000. Red with tan leather interior. It was the Touring model with a electric moon roof. And the Bose wave technology which meant the speakers took up even more room than the shallow trunk couldn't really spare. I bought it right out of college once I got my first real job. It had momo wheels and a momo shift know. I even added the famous red RX7 strut bar (R1/R2 spec only) and the larger lower front lip. So the only thing I didn't have that the R1/R2 had was the additional oil cooler. I say all this so you know when it comes to the FD I know what I'm talking about. 1. What helped kill it is that Mazda dealers didn't know how to repair or work on them so there answer was put in a new engine and make Mazda foot the bull. 2. It advertised 18moh on Super and if you rove it at all with any foot pressure you'd be lucky to get 12mpg. 3. The car had a ridiculous amount of vacuum lines that would routinely pop off and you had no boost. They were also made of cheap rubber that would often crack because of the engines super heated engine bay. The best fix was to instantly locate all the rubber vacuum lines and replace them with hight heat neoprene lines and glue and zip tie each end of the lines. 4. Let car coo down for 30 sec to a minute before you cut it off. Lift the hood if you are in a place where you can. 5. Remove cat or get high flow cat asap. 5. Go with a Apexi exhaust I liked the N2 because it looked factory but more so and the stock car sounds like a vacuum cleaner. 6. Oil is always your friend. Change it as often as you can or at least every 2000 miles when your topping off the quart it will burn every month. 7. Car has no torque. I mean NONE! If you're on a steep hill at a stop sign and your ac is on your going to struggle to pull that Hill. The best way to think of the FD is that of a high performance sports bike with 4 wheels. The car cruises at exactly 92 may. I have made many hot ridden civics with the fact can mufflers grenade toying to keep up. The car also doesn't need breaks you hit any turn and floor it and it will turn like it's on rails. Hope this helps.

I wonder if it's possible to design the rotary engine to use liquid nitrogen to keep the engine cool... Would it stop heat transfer? Would it prevent the motor from working? Would it freeze engine oil? Would it all balance out? Would the metal corrode over time? Would you need to change the liquid nitrogen, if so, how often? make sure the car will start after refueling at gas station, hahaha... I used to own one, I don't have much problem with the engine itself, but too many other parts are so fragile and worn out quickly for a car with 64k km of mileage : failing solenoids, failing air pump, intake tube leak, coolant tank leak, coil failure, etc etc... engine mount and spark plug also worn out faster than any other car. this car is too fragile for a mere 150hp at the wheel, though I think the body style is timeless.

Yes. Water jackets only would have to be redisighned to produce more bottom end cooling and oil burn can be nearly eliminated with i suppose u could use 12 on each rotor alowing fresh oil at intake compression and ignition points that has not been exposed to air fuel. Also. Rotories should never have the gass just hammered on but rather rolled into. The rpm range is to long to do that with a motor that has 3 chambers instead of one. Also, metalurgy has progressed to the point where they can use a variating aloy that is diferent material at diferent points of the castings in the motor alowing a different expansion rate for the bottom than the top eliminating the sealing problem. Really. Ots not that hard. What i personaly as stranfe as it may soundWould be yo put a rotory in an 86 fiero. Ultra light car coming in at about 2500 lbs which gives minimal load on the motor and transmission creating am easier life for the motor and such, and low torque requirments for performance, plus it would kill the whole heavy ass thing they alwayse seam to have plus a conventional rear drive trans could be used.and the wight would be pushed forward a bit which would be good because again... Ass heavy from the factory causing understeer. After that theonlybthing you would have to dobis rebild the chassis ind connect the two inside of them and you basicaly have a potantial minni hypercar. Viola
I do love a well built and ported rotary turbo, but it shouldn’t make a comeback. That’s reserved for the enthusiasts now, and piston engines are just easy and common so they’re not going anywhere soon, but electric is where it’s really at.

the rotary is alive in my garage
Everyone at my job laughs at me when I tell them that the rx8 will be my next car but, but the joke will be on them when I come in screaming at 9k rpm
only 9k?
@@whackaify Honestly, with how the entire world seems to hate ICEs, I plan on feeling out how the mod scene will change before going hog wild on it. No point putting in a 4 rotor swap when there’s no fas station
make sure the car will start after refueling at gas station, hahaha...
@@sapibuntinx6597 Oh, I’m well aware of it’s MANY pain points, but there’s a certain badass attitude to releasing a car in 2011 with SUV levels of gas mileage and an automatic version that’s the most gimped downgrade I’ve ever seen that makes you love what Mazda was going for (and makes you wanna start a petition to just release the Rx vision in some form that’s not an EV). This car line is the biggest middle finger to what the average consumer wants in a car and I love it all the more for it
Cool idea but they belong in the history books with steam powered cars.
I say stay where they at for the better , once ppl see how really good the rotary is it’s gonna b to much builds then finna get boring
That's why i wanna get an rx8 before it turns into the rx7
" only OG's remember when gas was $5 per gallon" ....umm nah only OG's remember when filling my FC rx-7 gas tank was like $12 lol
Nice League of Legends analogy.
Rotary engines are awesome and have a very unique sound, but yeah.. by design the maintenance you gotta be on top of it
What was the background music during the intro?
You played run-escape aswell? 🤣 One of the best games ever made
What happened to variable valve engines
You should talk about why Dodge and GM took the bail out in Fort did not
The dental reference hit home ive owned 3 rx7z an rx8 and I’ve worked in dental for years ! So true! People use to just give away there rx cars!
Rx7 Fd counter part 911 turbo!
Top gear “ the old rx7s were to compete with porches”
pans to rx8: surprise pikachu face
15/10 for RS references....91 Runecrafting....bruh
Viola
Bro please do the 98 mustang gt I want to know if it’s worth getting one and keeping it forever
New zealand will never let rotary die
New Zealand doesn't make cars
Do you guys have Ralph's out there, I get my wheat bread for 97 cents a loaf , man cheap price , good to dough its called😁
what is the song at the end of the video?
Bro. You said only og’s remember when gas was $5.30 a gallon. I just paid $5.47 a gallon today. 🤦🏽♂️
i wish rotaries were still around
It's coming back as a hybrid power plant and as a range extender in actually properly announced Mazda vehicles so viva la rotary. 🔥
@@nottobay6768 viva la rotary
As a proud owner of a rotary powered rx8 I’ll say.... the fun of driving a rotary makes up for many problems. Not good a good car to daily though.
What happened to the Mazdaspeed 6
BRING IT BACK AND MAZDA MAKE A PRODUCTION 4 ROTOR PLEASEEEE
Remember the good old Apex seals😢
I want an rx7 so bad but all the talk about reliability and stuff is making me not want it
I do love a well built and ported rotary turbo, but it shouldn’t make a comeback. That’s reserved for the enthusiasts now, and piston engines are just easy and common so they’re not going anywhere soon, but electric is where it’s really at.
🔥 Lord Thank You For The All Mighty Rotary Engines 🔥
Try to update it
Dorito power!
Tbh I genuinely think if they had put enough time and money rotarys would be a great engine the idea is absolutely great but it just need the time
I'm grinding runescape as I watched this, I'm not sure if I should feel personally attacked of not
