      I agree! We who comment about this here are trying to warn the public about the hazards! I hope they will listen, find out for themselves and get involved with the Planning of the Permanent Dump! Decisions are Being made now February 15th, 2023 the survey is due but the survey fails to qive the public the option to ship it off. So, I suggest, write it in! Tell Govt. what you want!

    At 2:54 , That is so close to the ocean. One huge earthquake ( like they just had in Japan ) and / or one devastating earthquake, all that heavy debris could slid right into the ocean. I honestly dont think they could have picked a worse location. Theyve had four months to find a better location. If this is the best our government can do , these people need to step down and let better educated people take their places.

    • @marcuskramer3514
      @marcuskramer3514 Рік тому +4

      What location would you suggest instead? There needs to be somewhere reasonably close geographically to Lahaina in order to efficiently move all the debris so the rebuild can happen. That's what is most important. Once the rebuild is complete then a permanent home for the debris can become the priority.

    Bissen describes the challenges of moving this much debris but he wants to do it twice? He promises its only temporary but he's using this site to avoid having to impact the HWY? Is it better to impact the hwy some other time instead? This temporary site at Olowalu will be poisoned forever and there is a community of both people and wildlife very very close to it. If we have to go to such huge efforts to move it lets do it once and do it right. This site is clearly a dry watershed. As soon as it rains all of those toxins will enter the water table, the stream, and the endangered reef as well as poisoning the water for the residents there. You need to watch the entire meeting of the council of jan 2nd. There were numerous people with amazing knowledge and experience in dealing with this very type of issue. How the council and mayor would so quickly make a final decision to desecrate land at Olowaho and not at least explore the options presented at the council meeting is so very sad and a silent statement of the real reason behind this whole mess. People of Maui deserve better than this. I do understand the need for a housing solution for those who have lost everything but I think some of the solutions presented could put people back on their land quicker than 1 1/2 years. I believe he wants to do what is right, but so many people are pulling from different directions that it must be incredibly difficult to do what is best for the most people. The dump engineers Dump the bags as the bags Break open and spew Poison ash into the air and INTO your OCEAN.. Then the bulldozers grind the Poison into the ground and No mitigation measures are in place to stop Poison Leach into the aquifer and ocean. Failed! this is a failure! A warning for the public: If you live there, you better make sure the permanent Dump is planned differently than how it is done now, or you will all be poisoned not only you but your Land, your air, your water, your recreation, your tourism, and your whole life! This is interesting. Hawaiians call everything sacred and really use "culture" as an excuse to be upset and blockade for anything and everything. (Don't ever take a leak when on a volcano even if it's an emergency!) So no permanent site will ever be accepted. But the debris has to go somewhere. So by establishing a temporary site it accomplishes several things. 1. Allows rebuilding to start. 2. Forces the public to either accept the temporary site as permanent, OR agree on a permanent site. Either way they don't need to try to get a consensus out of the Hawaiian public anymore because the debris problem is handled at that point.

    Thanks for allowing a non bias video and just showing the information! In the end, not every one is going to agree with the final outcome that is decided. When saying ‘debris’ it really is the ashes of the many loved ones. Makes me ponder how those souls want to be honored! 🥲
