    Helpful! I figured there SHOULD be a simple fuse. I find it UNBELIEVABLE however, a Manufacturer would design an appliance whereby you have to REMOVE the Microwave from its mount from its cabinet and spend a half hour or MORE removing the outer SHELL JUST TOO replace a simple 20A fuse that takes less than a minute to do, once you get to it. This goes beyond common sense!!

      Thanks for the comment. I completely agree with you. Please note that since I posted this video I've had to replace that fuse two more times. Knock on wood, the last fuse I put in was a "slow blow" 20 amp fuse that has lasted over a year now. Good luck with your fuse replacement.

      And this is why once I removed the GE microwave from the wall I chose to go with an LG microwave instead, and it's better in every single way. Not as deep, not as tall, not as expensive, everything cooks better. Not worth replacing the fuse in this unit IMO. I'm not a fan of the new Chinese Haier-owned GE appliances. Quality isn't what it was.

    Thanks for the video, I replaced the 20Amp fuse and a broken micro switch for the door, (generic micro switches are only about $5), I put it all back together and mounted it back on the wall and plugged it in and only the light inside the microwave oven turned on. I was frustrated and went to bed. today I decided to do some more digging so I opened up the electronics panel on the right side and noticed that I had overlooked the power to the circuit board and forgot to plug it back in to the board. Well, long story short, the microwave oven works good as new now and should for another 5 years or so. thanks again for the video.

    Found this video! Thank you. Our microwave tripped a breaker before blowing the fuse. Thinking we might change the door switch at the same time.

    I finally found a video showing where the fuse is on this particular model. NOTHING in the manual or GE site. So thanks for posting this video. Now however...I'm not about to take the fuking microwave off the wall (above the stove) to do this shittt. And then it looks like there's no guarantee the same process will need to be done 1-4 times in the future. What I do know is I'll never ever buy another GE product. And that's insane how they gauge you on the simple parts...switches and fuses. Unbelievable.
    This microwave model is trash.

    You're right about not much info on UA-cam on how to fix this model. My issue is that it pops the breaker when I use it. Display, fan and underneath lights are fine but dies instantly when turned on.

    • @misbfa1
      @misbfa1 2 роки тому +2

      Same issue for me. I haven't figured out the cause yet, however when I go through the Amazon reviews, this seems to be a common problem that will come back even after being fixed.

      @@misbfa1 Had it looked at by a technician who diagnosed it as a "faulty" microswitch activated by the door latches. He cleaned them up a bit and unit started working properly. Gave me a 60 grace period whereby if the problem returns he'll come back and replace the panel the switches are mounted on and not charge another service visit fee.

    Update: After replacing the fuse multiple times, my wife finally told me to just replace the unit. I installed a new microwave last Sunday in its place, and the old one will be out for bulk trash pick up tomorrow morning. If you want a free microwave that needs yet another fuse, it's yours.

    I am curious is the reason the original glass fuses fail is due to vibrations caused by the door being closed or "gently slammed". I don't really get the glass fuses they are almost as delicate as an incandescent bulb.
    My microwave started tripping the circuit breaker. I reset the breaker several times. I decided the breaker was faulty and plugged the microwave into another outlet. The fuse went poof just as I opened the door yesterday. So, out came the microwave . I hope these Bussman fuse you recommend are a bit more hardy.

    • @fordsrmaster
      @fordsrmaster  Рік тому +1

      They are not. I'm on my fourth fuse now. I still can not figure out why the fuses blow. I've replaced all three door switches and they still blow. My wife and I are now looking at getting a different microwave. This GE model sems to be garbage. I'm getting really tired of replacing the fuse. I have no idea why it seems to always happen when the door is being closed.

      @@fordsrmaster If the only time it trips is when you hit the start button try cleaning the door latches with a Q-tip and alcohol after unplugging it. the post read on iFix said the bottom of the 2 latches gets gunk but mine was actually the top on. Clean it then close and open then clean again. Do it until the Q-tip is clean. This is assuming the breaker is tripping only on cook. I still had surface lights, clockand fan still having power.

    • @fordsrmaster
      @fordsrmaster  Рік тому +1

      @@sydneyc5094 It doesn't trip when cooking. Only when opening / closing the door. I've already replaced all three door switches so I don't think that cleaning them will help. My latest idea is to try a "slow blow" microwave fuse. It might be something as simple as that to get this fixed permanently.

    Horrible design. I have the same model. I replaced the thermal fuse behind the removable circuit panel that sits to the right side of the unit. I also replaced one of the micro switches, the one that always breaks. I put it all back together and plugged the power cord back into the wall and nothing. while the door was open I could see in through the slots in the front of the microwave and I noticed the 20 Amp fuse is black. Now I'm removing the unit from the wall to take it apart and replace that fuse. thanks for the video.

    Thank you, thank you! You were correct that there isn't another video on this microwave. That said, I initially thought my issue might be the fuse until I watched your video. What is different about my microwave is it is tripping the breaker everytime I try to operate it. If I reset the breaker, everything lights up, as it should. The moment I press the 30 second button or set a cook time and start, the breaker trips. So I'm thinking if lights still come on, it's probably not the fuse. Would you agree? If so, any suggestions?

      @ddegrace8965 2 місяці тому

      Probably you will need to replace the whole door. When you look at the build quality of the microwave, you will find that it’s basically disposable. Even the lowly fuse replacement competes with a new unit if you have to pay for a service especially when you consider a repeat failure and the fact that a new one comes with a warranty.

      You are correct. It's not fun. It's not easy. After I posted this video the fuse blew again after a couple of weeks. Turned out I had a defective door switch. I didn't bother figuring out which one. I just replaced all three. I got them from Amazon for about $30 plus tax . GE wants about $50 per switch, so get them from Amazon.

      @@fordsrmaster I have the exact same model and has blown 5 fuses so far. anyway, check the main control board for stuck relays, and instead of mounting and unmounting unit each time. take dremel tool and cut the bars away that block access to the fuse board. And you are very correct about using the ceramic fuses instead of the glass ones. (glass explodes all over the place when they pop).
