2 of the greatest in one video. John Madden and LT. Watching LT was one thing but having John Madden commentate it makes it like art.
agreed.....the best LB and the best commentators.....Summerall and Madden were the best and LT-- what else can you say......
Nobody and I mean NOBODY was more in awe of LT than Big John. I remember him saying that Taylor was the best Defensive player he ever saw
Madden once said "the job of the Giants offense is to get the ball to the defense so they can make things happen".
Miss John and pat calling games the best ever
THE monster of monsters.
Has any player ever dominated, like this man?
It is hard to believe 1 player can do this much damage, game after game after game.
LT never stopped.
The GREATEST defensive player in league history, and its not even close.
@Cool Guy ....please...stay away from the drugs.
Only one man is comparable to LT in terms of dominance, destruction and pain, Dick Butkus.
@@danielkelegian5306 Loved Dick Butkis. Played Lights Out relied HEAVILY on Intimidation. Deservedly got a lot of Pub. Willie Lanier with the Kansas City Chiefs brought Smarts and Athleticism along with a Business-Like Demeanor to the Game. Ray Nitscke of The Packers...TOTAL BLOOD AND GUTS.....Those were MORTAL MEN.
LT WAS SUPERMAN. Say what you will about Coke and Legal and ALL THAT OTHER BULLSHIT but LT brought SIZE, SPEED, ATHLETICISM, FOOTBALL IQ,FOCUS, DETERMINATION AND SHEER WILL, ALONG WITH A FUCKIN' MEAN STREAK THAT WAS NOT TO BE TRIFLED WITH.(and you can TELL NOBODY wanted a piece of em' because NORMALLY A LINEMAN WILL GET IN YOUR FACE AFTER YOU TRASH HIS QUARTERBACK and possibly seek to get his "BACK") NOT ONCE. in ANY of these clips did you see ANY LINEMAN even THINK about fuckin' with LT. THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES. RESPECT.
HE CHANGED HOW THE GAME WAS PLAYED.
@big ian who the heck is Sean Taylor
@@theimp5901 a two time pro bowler killed during the height of his career. Immortalized by emotional men that immortalize the dead. Nvr was all-pro, made a phenomenal hit on a punter in a pro bowl. Sean Taylor is an example of how religions start worldwide. R.I.P. But 🤦🏾♂️
"That was the old triple team. I wonder who blocked the rest of the guys!?" John Madden was great. Damn I miss him in the booth.
(As a teenager, I remember playing his video console game when the Raiders were the fastest team and we were the slowest. It... annoyed me to say the least, but I was glad it stopped me being manipulated by those video game makers before they had the chance to really screw me up.)
But big respect to Pat & John, who were a great team themselves.
As much of a Redskin fan as I am, I can say with no problem L.T. was the greatest defensive player in NFL History. Period.
I don't think it's a even a question. The Hogs are THE GREATEST O line of all-time. They won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different starting QB's and 3 different starting RB's, and even they couldn't stop LT.
You should be able to say that no matter who you rooted for...
Not just defense best ever period!
Taylor was a headache for my 49ers, and I too agree that LT was the best defender ever. Although, I feel Ronnie Lott is a close second. ;-)
As a Cowboys fan I completely agree!
I knew LT was good. But until recently I did not realize just how good. He was incredible.
WHAT !!!! GOAT
He was a one man highlight reel,it was a pleasure being able to watch him every week
the guy was the greatest football player that ever lived and gave the effort of a guy trying to make the team. definitely will never be another L.T. #GOAT
Lucky to be a giant fan watched him every week in fact we wanted the defense on the field more than the office
@@ericpelote998 I watched every game he played. You had to see it to believe it. No one who played against him will ever say anyone was better. Reggie White and Bruce Smith about 75% LT and then it goes down from there.
I'm a 40 year Redskins fan and LT was the greatest defensive player of all time hands down. I've never seen a D player single=handedly dominate an entire offense the way he did. I think I said a prayer of gratitude when he finally retired lol
Dude he retired when you were like 12
Keep in mind that Taylor was going against the best Left Tackle in the league that season (yes better than Munoz) and help from a HOF Left Guard. Not only did Taylors talents revolutionize the way 3-4 defense is played, his talent also changed the Joe Gibbs Offense.
Most of the time LT was avoiding Jacoby and Jacoby was doing a decent job of slowing him down except that one sack. Lol
Everyone else triple teaming LT was a mismatch and LT would toss them around like rag dolls.
@@mastersironmantarmstrong7148 I will agree Jacoby handled LT better than most if not all at the time, Jacoby belongs in the HOF. Taylor is just the best football player I have ever seen play.
@@johnliberty3647 agreed
The greatest player ever in NFL history! Period
Absolutely dominant and relentless. Every kid that wants to be a linebacker should study this man.
John Smith has the videos for studying.
You can't learn this. LT was born gifted.
What a motor! His pursuit of Joe on that QB scramble was intense.
Incredible outstanding play. His motor was stuck in overdrive
One thing i respect about LT is he wasn't a dirty player. He truly loved the game.
Who's the next LT? No one! As a longtime Washington fan I remember all those years he wrecked havoc. The New York Giants defence in the 1980's was outrageous.
The play at 2:58 is amazing. L.T. dispatches a HOF caliber left tackle in Joe Jacoby, then another offensive lineman, and chases Joe Theismann some 20 yards downfield. I think Dr. Z referred to this play in his book "The
New Thinkings Man Guide to Pro Football".
You're correct. That play was the one Dr Z referred to in his book
john smith
Yup!
I had to know.
Page 161 is where he refers to it. Incredible play.
LT will never be forgotten due to his love for the game and his gifted talent to destroy quarterbacks and others trying to carry the ball. I don't think we'll ever see another LT. The quarterbacks nightmare.
Boondock Saint Agreed my man. We are way to hung up on sacks and so many forget that LT did everything a linebacker is supposed to do and BTW, did it better than everyone else. It wasn't just fans and sports writers who talked that shit, it was other players. You can believe this or not but ten years or so, I was friends with Dan Dierdorf Jr. (sp) and Danny told me his Dad who is a HOF O-Lineman said " all Taylor does is rush the QB, he's not a true LB". I lost all respect for Dierdorf when I heard that. Luckily for him LT didn't go head to head with that big mouth. Hell, Taylor played the run and defended the pass as well as anyone in history, if not better. I submit that if Lawrence had played in a conventional 4-3 (as an weakside lb) he would have had 30 interceptions in his career, EASILY!!!! JEALOUSY, JEALOUSY, JEALOUSY, THATS ALL IT IS.
@@michaelbelfer6513 I'll make this simple for all you young bucks that think you know a great linebacker. If his name isn't LT go and watch LTs greatest hits. You'll never have enough time to watch them all but you'll get the message extremely quick. Then you can say that you've seen the greatest linebacker that will ever be. There's plenty of others that are still trying to see straight and walk upright after all these years. LT wasn't a mean linebacker or diabolical he was just a BEAST. NOW YOU KNOW NOW GO AND WATCH THE KING.
LT was and is, and always be the greatest defensive foot ball player in all of football...
best football player in my lifetime
John and Pat really made watching a game that much better. especially when they were announcing G games
No better announcing team than Pat and John.
Cowboys fan here but much respect to LT. Greatest Defensive Player in Pro Football History.
WOW! Mad respect from a Cowboy's fan! Never thought I'd see the day! I take my hat off to you sir.
@@busternutt2874 Thanks! But we will never see another LT in our lifetime. He's a funny guy in person, met him a few years back.
As obviously great as LT looks here, Gibbs and Theismann do as well. They were able to keep the offense going even with an unstoppable monster on the other side. You can see how much thought and courage went into their game.
☹️ Damn I miss this type of football !!!! 💯 🏈 L. T. & Madden! 🏆🥇
I remember John Madden was being interviewed and the question was asked, who is your favorite player to watch.. with the question barely even finished he said LT.. there are guys like Barry and Marino that get you excited but LT just amazes you on every play..
I'm not a Giants fan but Lawrence Taylor is the greatest football player I have ever seen.
4:08 Madden: "Lawrence Taylor wanted to play both ways, play tight end, play the whole game... It really isn't a bad idea"
Summerall: "it isn't"
Taylor was a complete maniac. He infected those around him that played with him...that's what really made him great...he elevated his teammates. Those Giants were a wolf pack.
At 2:14, the Skins needed 3 Blockers to contain Taylor! Wow!
When the last time you saw 3 men on one player ?
Freaky how strong he was. Throwing around 300 lb tackles like nothing.
Steroids will do that...
Cocaine helped but still the greatest
@@JoeyKO757 Taylor did not take roids.
During the early 80's, OL's didn't weigh 300. Not even close. They just looked like they did. They weighed like 280 something.
Freak athlete. No weights. Dont even think he was roided. Man ran a sub 4.5 in cleats and
knew how to hit.v
They had 3 guys blocking one LT unreal 😳
Best of ALL time
He’s a goat not a boat
Washington was LT's fathers favourite team so he was always fired up when he played them. No player has ever had as much influence on a game as LT.
Garry Pratt BTW Washington also had the best grass field in the NFL. Eight home games, two pre-season games, no college games and that was it, year after year so that grass was dug in deep. Phil Simms always said it was his favorite field mainly because of that. He used to laugh and say ," the rivalry helped too baby, but that great grass field was a beautiful thing. Also from 1984 on, the Giants matched up very well with the Skins. What a great era for the NFC EAST, EAGLES, COWBOYS, SKINS & GIANTS. THE GREATEST OF DAYS IMO!!!!!!
As a Giant fan I marveled at his first three years in the league I would watch just him on every play and go play my high school games imitating everything he did
Thanks so much once again for sharing your LT videos. I really appreciate it!!
hatfieldjimi You're very welcome. Thanks for watching.
@@johnsmith3091 ...yes....thank you very much for your efforts.
LT was incredible. IMHO, LT was simply the greatest defensive player in NFL history. That triple team was not a one-time event. He forced the great Joe Gibbs to entirely redesign the Redskins offense just to try and account for his presence. He was like The Terminator: he just never, ever stopped. I do not think we'll ever see his like again. Very sad that his off-field life was not as heroic.
I'm a die-hard Giants fan. I was a teenager when LT was doing this thing, kinda took him for granted then. Watching this videos makes me appreciate him more. This is great stuff, John!
3 to block 1 man 🤔 , never seen it before or after till this day !! G.O.A.T .
2:52 Yeah, Taylor did "get the tackle" on Riggins. But not before Riggins ran over him. LT was great, but so was Riggins. A much older Riggins, I might add.
Correct, but these were the early 1980's, when soft officiating meant Phil Simms kept getting injured badly - hence the Giants developed as a team more slowly than what could have been the case. Still wonderful videos LT has given us all to watch.
Riggins did as good or better against LT than No did.
To settle any argument why LT is the GOAT watch this game!
The 1986 Veterans Stadium Eagles-Giants video was great to watch (and listen to Madden's summaries at the same time).
Hell, any game.
Don Warren was the best blocking TE in the NFL at the time, and he couldn't do a thing with Taylor. Neither could the rest of Hogs really.
No one could do a thing with Taylor. Not just the Hogs.
Chris Kavanagh I know. I just mentioned the Hogs because they were THE best O line of their era, and IMO the greatest O line of all time (3 Super Bowl rings with 3 different QB's says it all) The fact they they struggled to stop or even slow down LT speaks to his greatness.
Never ever stopped playing until the whistle blew
I remember Gibbs making a comment once about Taylor not being big on weight lifting. He said, referring to if he did lift, "image the sun being a 100 Xs hotter."
Impressive tape. Taylor absolutely dominated everyone in his path whether it was a 300 lbs. lineman or 250 lb. tight end. Running backs like Joe Washington had no chance of chip blocking as Lawrence ran right through them. I would like to bring up the scoreboard in this game--despite the demolition of the Redskins line, by guys like Taylor and George Martin, Joe Theismann kept his composure and put 33 points on the board in this particular game. At one point, it was 33-3, Redskins favor. How did it happen? Field position, for one. Turnovers (Dexter Manley had an interception) but more than that, you can see the Gibbs outcoaching Parcels. Every time the Giants stop the Redskins cold, the Skins adjust; add a blocker, put Walker in motion, or run a quick slant that gets a first down. Moseley hits on at least three field goals. Charlie Brown catches a touchdown pass and Riggins runs one in. Such was the beauty and power of the 1983 Washington Redskins, the greatest offensive power in the history of professional football. Three Hall of Famers. Eleven Pro Bowlers, plus one HOF Coach (and that was just the offense). The Giants were able to score a couple of touchdowns in the fourth to make it more respectable, but still the Redskins won by 15 points. I think Joe Theismann was an underrated quarterback and should be in the Hall of Fame--any QB who could take that kind of pounding, week in, and week out, and still put up the numbers that he put up deserves such recognition.
I agree. That was a great Redskins team, and a pretty good Giants team, too. The Skins went to four Super Bowls from 1982 to 1991, and won three of them. Lawrence Taylor was a beast. Impossible to contain. The best pass rushing LB I've ever seen, and probably will ever see. So gotta give the Giants their due. Those were some great battles back then between two very good teams. If I recall, the Giants went to two Super Bowls and won both during that same era. So they were very good. But the Redskins had an outstanding pass rusher themselves in Dexter Manley, and if I recall, Manley had more sacks during his first 5 or 6 years in the league than did LT. Both were great players and dominated that era.
Good Commentary. Thank you....
@@thevenerablebede5601 If it wasn't for his off the field issues, Dexter Manley would be a Hall of Famer.
@@thevenerablebede5601 That was a young Giants team that finished 3-12-1 in 1983
The Venerable Bede Us old timers should remember a left Defensive end named Deacon Jones (LA Rams) who BTW was the exact same size as Taylor,(6' 3", 243 lbs) but not nearly as quick or as fast. Funny how folks make a point of the 40 yd dash like it means a damn thing!!!! What really counts for big men is a 10 yard run,. not 40. Yeah sure once in a while an lb has to run down a back or a QB 20 yards or more but not very often, right? Sideline to sideline, 10-15 yds true?
This is not fair. How is he that damn good?
These names are legendary to me
His talent was obvious even back at NC State. He played with "reckless abandon" on EVERY play. He NEVER dogged even one play. The Giant's were lucky to get him and the rest is history...
I was at this game. I was 11 years old at the time, and this was my first game ever. It was freezing cold, and the Giants offense showed nothing until the fourth quarter. It was 33-3 late, before the Giants scored a couple of garbage time TDs to make the final score look a little better. It was strange that the Giants played them much tougher in Washington that year.
I dont know if John Smith will ever see this comment but thank you for making these compilations of john smith really basic and really help :)
So obviously the greatest ever. The Gretzky and Jordan of his game.
There was the Madden quote: "He won games with defense".
He didn't necessarily inspire the quote: 'Defenses win Superbowls', but gentlemen like him sure did give 100% in the 1980's.
(Problem was that there were also all too many bad men in the 1980's, ruining just about every country on the planet.)
They should make a movie about LT
They did.
Predator
They did. It's called the Blind Side. LT is what made the position in the movie so important. LT is even mentioned in the movie at the beginning.
The Legend
This guy is the reason I started playing football, and never play another position other than outside linebacker, and try to perfect it as much as he did.. Inspiration to any athletes anywhere.
He really does disrupt the offense, I think that's the key measure more so than the tackles and the sacks. How many plays were not executed because of his disruption? If there's 70 offensive plays and he disrupts 20, that's not winning football for the offense.
This was a Redskins team on their way to a 2nd straight Super Bowl. And they were ALL scared of LT. The greatest of the greatest EVER!
The Mike Tyson of NFL linebackers. Simply too quick, powerful and dominant in his prime. An absolute force of nature.
Love these bits. Thanks.
LT the greatest ever
Pad size in those days were crazy. This was against Gibbs Hogs, the best Oline in football at that time.
Man, i miss old shit so badly
83 was bad BUT started to take my finger off my nose in 84, boy it was there a long time. Out BH
Amazing!
So much fun to watch
3:46, no human being makes that play. LT was the greatest football player ever. Jerry Rice is a close second...
LT seemed to have an intuitive way of bringing a runner down. LT could get the most precarious hold on a ball carrier and literally pull him to the ground with one or two fingers just by using his fingers like hooks.
Dear John smith. I consider myself the biggest giant fan on the planet. But then again we all are. A giant family. I have all these games on tape aswell as I would record every game and wAtch it during the week and analyze it. I should be on payroll. Lol. Still to this day. Eli needs to get out his funk, buts that's I different convo. I am here to watch ur great videos, that you went as far as digitizing!!! Threw a vcr dvd converter or you had them paid to digitalze. You are awesome, u really are. Much respect to you my friend. I watch ur videos ALL the time. My personal favorite is the one of LT counting his actual forced fumble count!!!! Go big blue. Forever!!!
Appreciate it and thanks for watching. Go Giants!
Is there any more tape of Lawrence Taylor either of you guys could post? Most impressive player ive ever seen!!!
That was when they let them play now the NFL doesn't let touch their quarter backs specially their princess tom Brady
womp womp womp shut up snowflake.
Yet Lawrence Taylor on the scene one more time lol nobody was even close he moves at a different speed and the power and sheer strength of him is frightening
Taylor was in on plenty of plays in this video of the first half.
Even more interesting is that Washington led 16-3 in the first half, 33-3 in the 4th quarter and won 33-17.
Must have been a lot great Washington plays not included in this small sample.
parcells owned Gibbs. Swept his team in 86, 88, 89, and 90. Gibbs needed a screwy, strike season when teams like NY were discombobulated in order to sweep NY and of course Parcells first season when he was just getting started. other than that, it was pretty much complete and utter ownage by Parcells. Swept Gibbs' ass 3 times in 86 in fact.
At one point in this game the Redskins built up a massive 33-3 lead on the Giants. But don't blame LT. It certainly wasn't his fault. 03:15 Watch number 56 indeed, Mr Summerall. He hurls tackle Joe Jacoby aside like it's not much effort. He keeps his feet, pursuing Theismann as the other Giants rushers lose their footing.
He knocks the other tackle George Starke completely off his feet and is actually in the process of running down Theismann just as the Washington quarterback slips out of bounds. LT traveled a HUGE distance on this play, from the other side of the field, and never quit.
...and the Redskins win 33-17. This was Bill Parcells' first season as head coach. They went 3-12-1. They would get better. LOL
LT easily had to be the best player on the worst team in the league in '83--Giants ended up 3-12-1 after a 2-2 start, things would get markedly better however. So perhaps there's hope for Aaron Donald.
Good call u got that one right. Aaron Donald almost won super bowl
@1:42 what a beautifully well executed LOOK OUT block on LT😂
3 GUYS ON LT AND STILL COULDN'T BLOCK HIM XD
Holy crap, it's like no matter where the 'skins tried to go...BAM..say hello to MR T. L.T. could have taken on a lightning bolt and kicked its ass. Ferociously fast...tenacious, and terrifying if he is chasing you...DAMN!
Man this guy’s just shoving grown men down like nothing
He was good off the block as well. Thats what I liked about him
If I guy made this many plays over 4 weeks they'd put him in the pro bowl
Hey John do you have Redskins at giants 1990 the whole game I can't seem to find it
LT is the soul reason the Redskins were never a dynasty
By facing LT, for the Redskins' offensive linemen, the other defenders are easier in comparison.
1:10 jesus christ... i wonder how close that ref was to just giving the ball to LT. roflmao
'83? He wasn't even at his peak yet.
and 83' Redskins scored 541 points, a record for a long time- still in top 5 - I think. But the LT Giants D -was so tough--- better than the Bears- imho
LT just owns other HOF'ers
Rest in peace to John Madden
looking for game between Atlanta and Redskins. Darryl Green and Deion Sanders both have run back for touchdowns
That would be the 92 game at RFK. Deion had a 99 yard kickoff return. Funny thing about this game is that I recorded the Sunday night George Michael Sports Machine highlight clip of this game on VHS. LOL!! I think I still have it. This was the same day the Giants were down 34-0 to the Cowboys in the 3rd quarter at home and came back to 34-28 and got stopped with under 1:00 left on 4th down at our own 30 yard line. I recorded this game on GMSM also.
@@danielkelegian5306 That left the Giants 0-2, before we beat Chicago 24-17 on Monday night in Soldier Field.
@@EmpressTouch yup.
You could definitely make a legitimate claim that Lawrence Taylor is the greatest NFL player of all time.
Today's nfl they would call horse collar
The 1 play that worked he was triple teamed!!! lol!
I wonder who's blocking the other guys!? Boom!
The closest I have seen to Lawrence Taylor is TJ Watt.
How the fuck is getting a TE Warren on LT the best match up? U saw what LT did to him. Anthony Munoz on LT is a bad matchup for the O vs LT. No one could block him one on one in his prime. The best matchup was that triple team they put on LT and even then LT would eventually beat it. GOAT.
"I wanna play the whole game" it's not a bad idea.
4:09
I still think the Super Tecmo Bowl Lawrence Tayler was better.
Formally triple teamed LOL
LT gets triple teamed and is still disruptive
Gotta wonder, how much was natural athletic ability or cocaine fueled?
Natural ability magnified. Adrenaline flowing constant
The overrated diesel broke down!
Vs Washington football team*
good luck blocking lt
Washington won the game and trust me number 66 handled LT more then any left tackle in the game and he isn't in the hall is utter bullshit
Not impressed. Who won the game? #httr
Redskins won big. Not sure how anyone can be unimpressed by this game tape. Thanks anyway for watching!
@@johnsmith3091 He's being a dick. That's freaking LT.
@@johnsmith3091 The 86 game in DC (which as a Redskins fan I refuse to watch) might be a better example of how great Taylor was. To be honest This was not LTs greatest performance but it did show that he had a high motor and in the right place at the right time. In 1986 he really blew up the Redskins and won the game himself. Giants won the game by 10 points but without Taylor Schreoder would have made big plays at the end of the game which he had a knack for doing that season. Taylor was the best football player of all time regardless of position. I know because I hate him for it as a Redskins fan... ok I don't hate him, if I met him I would be totally cool with him but I sure hated him 2 sundays a year for about a decade.
