    Always fun to watch. I would appreciate a video on "cleaning up" the sticky rubber. It happens on lots of stuff, and to be able to clean/stabilize/de-sticky it would be great. Thanks.

      Great suggestion! I actually have about a dozen cameras in various states of disrepair largely because of sticky rubber.

    always a fun watch, It reminds me of how dim and bad viewing angle the older camera displays where. I am so spoiled now with the super bright displays, but it does effect battery life.

      UK market seems OK at the moment. I sell any and all cameras from 1920s to 2010s. Not sure I've sold enough 'P&S's to notice an upsurge, but they do all sell in due course. @@pricklypearcamera

    Glad to see videos like this again! Really remarkable just how many digicams have been made over the past 20 years. Literally hundreds of models. Ive got dozens from Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fuji, Panasonic, Pentax and Olympus. Ive been on a bridge camera kick lately! Just recently got the Canon Powershot SX130. That 100 looks cool too. Sucks about that A610. I just bought an A85 with the black screen of death and returned it. A common problem with the A series unfortunatley.

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  9 місяців тому

      Nice to see you again Michael- hope all is well! The ol' black screen of death rears its head again! Bummer to hear that, and you're right, quite common!

  • @darkvantage2019
    @darkvantage2019 8 місяців тому +2

    About the A610 you might wanna take a look on the display button, the previous owner might have disabled liveview and removed the battery, that can sometimes bug the liveview, so you might want to restart the camera a few times and check the clock battery, my A530 also arrived with that problem and it was a dirty button so i cleaned it and boom, it works.

    I have the SX130IS and i tell you, the zoom noise is considerably lower compared to the SX100. I love the SX series by how good the image quality is for such a small camera, and paired with CHDK? A beast for sure! Even battery life is farily decent for a camera that only uses two double AAs.
    Awesome video as always dude, i really liked it 👏

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  8 місяців тому +1

      Really appreciate that-thanks! Yeah, they are a noisy bunch! When the SX100 was released I was in camera sales at a camera shop and even compared to other comparable brands at the time, right out of the box it was a noisy little camera, but you're right, I love the pic quality.

    In the era of film Nikon & Canon were respected names, but the their reputation fell with the consumer electronics models. My experience with Canon IXUS was expensive, short and bitter.

    Oddly fascinating. The very last one is the same as one of mine that I had fun installing CHDK onto back in the day. It's sitting on the shelf.
    I do wonder who buys these cameras these days, what with cell phone cameras being as good as they are.

  • @mistervacation23

    Well, here's what you can do with four cameras, that you can't do with three. You take two of the cameras, you price them identically. The third camera, you price a Iittle Iess. The fourth camera, you price a Iittle higher. Customer comes in wanting to buy a camera He figures the Ieast expensive camera's either a bargain, or there's something wrong with it. But it gets him thinking. It gets him talking to you. In other words, you've got him in the game. Odds are, he doesn't take camera number three because he reads it as defective. But it pushes him towards cameras one and two, which he already thinks are a good deal, because of the higher price of camera number four. Or maybe he's drawn to camera number four. I mean, why is this camera more expensive?
    You tell him it's never been used.You point out that cameras one and two have never been used, the only difference is,camera number four is still in the box. Now, he does one of two things.He either buys one of your cameras at the regular price, which he now thinks is a bargain or, he springs for the one in the box because he plans to give it to someone as a present, and he needs the box so it Iooks new and not Iike some camera he just picked up at a pawn shop.
    So by purchasing this camera in its box you increase the value of the three cameras you already have.
    What do you think?

    You have actually pawn shops in the USA, which accept non-working, or scratched and battered 10 year old digicams as pawns? In Europe pawn shops hardly would be an address for sourcing old digicams. Here you find them on Ebay, classifieds or backyard sales, and in bulk boxes at auctions, but I've never seen these in pawn shops in this decade. I hardly can imagine that a pawn shop here would even bother to assess a digicam like those, would they be presented to them by someone. A pawn shop which actually has digicams in stock which won't work and have a value of 0 USD - no wonder that it goes out of business. Or are pawn shops in the USA charities? Scratching my head ...
    Thanks for the video nonetheless, always interesting to see your assessments!

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  9 місяців тому

      I think they originally accepted these 10-12 years ago and due to poor inventory management they just sat around for many years in a backroom until the business closed. Most pawnshops here are more like you describe.

      Kastar makes a universal charger with adjustable positive and negative prongs that fit nearly any battery. It's technically a travel charger, so it takes awhile to charge batteries but it's well worth the money.

    Where I live. At flea markets the camera go for like 10 to 15. If they have better cameras they can go high priced my sis picked up a Nikon 35 mm with two lense for 15 bucks. At times you just gotta search for a deal. I been finding my camera lense at good prices I got my 50mm for 60 and found a canon at a goodwill for 48 not bad. And I’m not stating bad toward you and your deals. I enjoy the videos and learned thing about camera lenses from you. So keep up the great work. And videos. I think I have some of them cameras

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  7 місяців тому

      Well, as it always comes down to, it's supply and demand. As these haven't been made in 10-20 years, there's not any more being produced and supply by way of broken or lost cameras goes down every year, and there are people interested in vintage digital cameras, and then a lot of buyers are buying to replace the same exact model they had that broke.

    That Canon 610 was my go-to point and shoot for many years, always had great exposures, color, and zoom. Not very good in the dark but that is standard for P&S. If it had HD video I might still take it out and use it, even today.
