    www.redbirdspe...
    In this video, Redbird Speed covers how to use this tool on a 9 inch housing. Make sure to use your words! These are not axle measurements! These are not "flange to flange" dimensions. These dimensions are from the center of the pinion to the outside of the housing ends. We explain in the video that several applications like spools splined to the outside edge and various posi units may not have the traditional axle spline location.
    E = Total housing width
    F = Center of pinion to driver side housing end
    G = Center of pinion to passenger side housing end
    F + G = E
    One more tip not included in the video... The F dimension is ALMOST ALWAYS going to be longer than the G dimension. It is very rare that a driveshaft would be located closer to the driver side than the passenger side. Make sure you don't flip these around or one axle will be too long an the other too short. Call us if you have questions.

    Im installing a bare 9 inch housing , I’m not sure if center section needs to be perfectly horizontal or angled up or down slightly measuring from the center section mounting surface. I’m starting from scratch with a bare housing and ladder bars. Thanks.

    So this may be a dumb question but you mentioned the axle length can change depending whats on the inside. Are there any center sections for the Ford 9 inch that change where the pinion is on the outside? I'm doing a Ford 9 inch and I need to resize the housing to fit my truck. So I figured I'll center the pinion and due away with the offset pinion.

    So which way are the tapered axle bearings pressed on. Many people say the cone first and the race is removable.
    I think the race should be trapped by the bearing cone on the axle...
    With a loose race. The only thing holding the axle in is the rubber sealing lips of the axle seal and the brake rotor. Which way is correct

      The lip seal goes toward the flange of axle shaft. The race will stay in the housing and cone come out on the axle once installed. They will separate. The caliper bracket / retainer plate will catch the seal and press on it and create a preload.

      @@redbirdspeed5063 look closely. If the outer race will separate off the bearing. The seal is the only thing holding the axle and cone in .

      @@waynep343 ua-cam.com/video/MAqrjRz1SGQ/v-deo.html Go to the 3 Minute mark. The lip seal goes on first. It rests in there very snug. Press ring goes on last. Bearing is lubed by the gear oil and open. Seal on the outside keeps it from leaking. A caliper bracket or retainer plate will catch the outer edge of the seal and hold the axle in the rear end. It creates a pre load as that seal pushes into the bearing.

    Do you know info when using a arb locker

      Are you asking about the axle measurements when using an ARB locker? You might have to contact the manufacturer to see if there are differences in this specific unit.
