    She shoots like a true artist! And by shooting the coffee shop she got professional shots taken by herself for the cost of film and processing. She saved hundreds!! Good show.....and Good luck to Emma!

    It was awesome to see her passion for art….music….and being creative. What a girl…..smart….go getter….and love photography… I can see a whole lot of photography guy falling in love with her! Keep us informed how many marriage proposals she gets…hahaha.
    But seriously- she is very lucky to have a great mentor such as roger and no wonder why she reach out. It is so important to help encourage anyone that is film-curious. I had a guy come up to me once and at forest I was worried he had criminal intent…..but then he pulled out of his bag a Leica - like it was a secret gateway key and a huge smile came across his face. We ended up walking around the rest of the day taking pics….and he was interested in my Hasselblad so I handed it to him to try 120 for the first time….and I got to use a Leica for the first time. It was a strange mix….a Leica guy and a Hasselblad guy…lol….but I’m 50 and he was 20…I’m Australian and he was Chinese….but we had a common connection with photography. Our generation and cultural gap didn’t matter…
    I hope to see more of her Roger….. please keep us updated…. You can make her a sub story : like when she gets her first medium format ca,era….and her first film developing…. I suspect she will be very good for your UA-cam ratings… But I just fell in love with her….her passion….and her thirst.for knowledge…. She is a awesome :)
    We need younger generations picking up film….but more importantly we need more women too….and break the old male wearing and anorak stereotype. Having a balanced cross section of the community gives our hobby a larger appeal to the film industry….old men wearing anoraks is not good business. Only issue for new comers is the increasing entry price for film cameras…..

    Honestly, one of your best videos and set of photographs for a long time. Some great portraits of Emma who is one of those fortunate people who are good both behind and in front of the camera (unlike you and me) She really looks to have her head screwed on business-wise too. I'm not surprised she picked up the bug at Falmouth where I worked for a while. The photography department there is amazing! You should get her to do a darkroom session with you. Just make sure your wife is in agreement, otherwise you might be in trouble.

    UA-cam works in strange and mysterious ways. I've been a fan of this channel for a while, and have been getting back into film photography and darkroom processing. Earlier tonight I decided to upgrade my espresso grinder. After watching a few grinder videos to jog my memory about the Rocket Espresso grinder line, this video popped up in my UA-cam suggestions. Film photography in a coffee shop ... who could ask for anything more.

    Fantastic video Roger, really enjoyed this. I’m sure it won’t be long before there’s a TLR up on her shelf. I think a lot of young people are yearning for a bit more meaning in photography these days. The constant stream of over filtered or photoshop fakery just leaves me a bit ‘meh’ these days, I swipe past them all. Not saying digital is bad, I use it too, it’s just so many images are in the realm of fantasy, totally over cooked.

    • @chromagraphphotoart
      @chromagraphphotoart 2 роки тому +1

    Great vlog with a lovely young lady. As she said, it looks nicer to my eye, when shooting on film. Digital is like plastic, it's everywhere, all the same, fantasy images/comps. Others feel different, but that is the beauty of photography. We cannot be all the same.

    Some really excellent portraits from that UN54, and to be honest I preffered the B&W stuff over the colour. I think it would be better to see Emma's work in context, let it tell us her story rather than shout individual words. See, your work here tells a story, about a woman learning how to take photographs with a MF camera, how she struggled to obtain the results she wanted whilst the narrative explained her goals and ambitions. Emma's work needs that same opportunity . This is an excellent video Roger, some of your best work for sure, well done to Emma and youself!

    • @ShootFilmLikeaBoss

      You mean Emma away from the camera and more on her work as a coffee shop owner in photographs?

    • @lloydgarland4667
      @lloydgarland4667 2 роки тому

      @@ShootFilmLikeaBoss No, not at all - I'd like to see her remake this video but do it from her very own point of view - she's obviously got the talent. By "Context" above, I mean rather than seeing the odd photo of hers, lets hear the whole symphony rather than a few highlights. Wait til she pulls her first roll of HP5 out of the fixer mate, you have some serious compitition there! Maybe she should have her own channel - "Shoot Film Like A Boss's Apprentice" :D Emma, if she chooses to accept the mission could have quite a future on the Tube - this message will over expose itself in 10 seconds... Unless you screw your eyes up to around F8, in which case, that'll be 20 seconds.

    7:23 this is mainly for slide film, as the look is baked into your roll after developing, but (modern) colour negative film is made to be flexible. In the darkroom it is possible to use colour filters, but editing images digitally is extremely easy and basically the same thing as using colour filters in the darkroom. There isn't really any reason to use colour-correxting filters with C-41 and especially ECN-2, as these formats are meant to be flexible for the consumer. C-41 for soccer moms who shoot their cheap point and shoots without thinking about what film, location or lighting they were in without much thought and the professionals wishing to be able to get the most out of their filmstock. The of course there is ECN-2 for professionals to be able to edit the colours of their movies, but isn't really worth the trouble for the average consumer
