Too many people telling me there are facts but then telling me to Google and another person gives me a screenshot of the article thumbnail. People saying things I know for a fact aren’t even true. So I don’t know what happened and I’m just engaging with everything with my usual of, “I don’t know”. I’m tired of it
So, this show is pretty much about how capitalism (money/profit over Everything) does not allow the development of shows due to lack of immediate funds. I do get the racial aspect to, I think that yet is root.
Y'all are not alone with the whole friends thing. I also could never understand how it became so popular. It was not funny at all. If you think about it there were no POCs on that show until like the second to last season when one of them got a black girlfriend, and she had very little screen time lol. Living single all day!!!!!!
The Marvels. Cute 'girl' jokes, fine. Sacrifice the magic negro, not losing sleep on that, if I let that bother me I couldn't watch anything. Liked tough-ass Carol Danvers, more like in comics. Action, cool, clever, probably hard as heck and post must have been crazy challenging...BUT following the recent trend of bad musical numbers in Sci-Fi...fans didn't come to see that crap(we know who that was aimed at). We want 'pew-pew', 'zap!', shit blowing up. It's like adding ray-guns to Sweeny Todd. That killed it for me. I (autonomic response) out loud, "Oh, no!". I slapped my hands over my mouth, too late. Drew a few chuckles. In the middle of the singing I heard groans.
Andor was a masterpiece but it also connected to Rogue One which was a huge popular film (without Jedi). Acolyte had NO film connection. But the books had stories about that era. The only hard pill that I can see for fans is the body count of Jedi and the idea of a Jedi going rogue might be too hard o process.
I just found this podcast and I decided to watch while I play (wait 4 it)... DC Universe Online, it's still going strong and this was the perfect background for me to fight trolls in the chat. GGs guys keep up the good work!
Missed the stream but, is the impilcatoin here that Star Wars hates non-white people because The Acoyle was canceled because, it was bad with poor reception, that's what they always do. It had plenty of time to cook, had a budget of over $180 million. Why make this about color/race? Disney actively wants to push forward DEI, that's a choice they make, which I'm on board with, but I'm not going to like something just because DEI or doesn't. If it's good, I will like it, if it's good and has DEI in it, even better! Aracane is one of the best examples of this, and they explicitly set out to be "woke." I do think the oringal idea was super cool but they changed it last minute, but I think the original concept is worth saving, just not whatever this was. Hopefully we can get some timestamps on the video though.

I initially liked where the acolyte was taking things with the story and what they were adding to the Star Wars mythos as a whole but as I’ve had time to reflect on the season as a whole and what I just watched and digested, I can’t help but feel similarly to how I felt when I watched the sequel films and how dissatisfied and let down I was. I feel that same way with this because it disrupts the integrity of the already established elements of Star Wars and is making similar mistakes to those sequel films. I love the representation in the series and I think the actors and actresses that were in the show did an amazing job, however the artistic choices and writing decisions in this show make me upset with the way things are seemingly going with Star Wars moving forward and in a lot of ways has been going with Star Wars since Disney bought the rights to produce Star Wars content from here on out. I can go into detail the many things about Star Wars (my literal #1 FAVORITE fictional world in the world since I was like 4) that has been upsetting since I first saw episode 7 and other various projects since. I usually try to be optimistic and give the benefit of the doubt and don’t get me wrong there still is newer Star Wars content produced by Disney that I have enjoyed. Dave Filoni for the most part has been a part of some of my favorite Star Wars stuff since then. That being said, Dave does a very good job of doing stuff that honors the elements of Star Wars curated by George Lucas himself while other stuff has outright ignored and disrespected the established understanding of characters, elements of the force and so much more and it’s truly frustrating to feel like the newest stuff you’re watching and wanting to support is so disrespectfully different than the Star Wars you grew up consuming and loving and feels like the makers of these shows don’t really have an understanding or even respect for what came before and don’t care to even attempt to understand George Lucas’s vision intentionality and reasons for creating things the way he did. That’s truly disappointing and unfortunate to me because what the Force represents and the way George describes what he’s was trying to do with his stories has meant so much to me over the years but it’s unfortunately been so distorted to the point of being unrecognizable in a lot of ways with some of the newer stuff.

This is a universe with space wizards, magic swords, a warrior race so bad ass they can solo a group of space wizards, crazy monsters etc. I don't come here for slow burn politics, or at least if I did, I would still want to see the cooler stuff the universe has to offer like how Game of thrones has politics, zombies, dragons, magic etc. and we at least get to see some of it.
I really like Acolyte start to finish and was REALLY looking forward to season 2 because it look like a hit and opened up to the Jedi leading up to Palpatine perhaps. When it comes to Star Wars, as a fan, I know what Im getting and finally I get to see a diverse characters in a quality fantasy show. Star Wars is NOT MASTERPIECE theater. Its a high level space opera.
For me his story just doesn't fit since the guy who replaced him is also gay (a married one in fact). The matter of the firing coupled that with not one of the writers and showrunners he's worked with before come out to defend his character. Lastly journalist like Jeff Sneider has reported some gross stuff allegedly by beau. So I am more incline to disbelief him
Pretty much it is all a matter of needing to know all the facts to be able to take a stance, and ultimately, that is what Blerd and Leftface are saying. We do not know all the facts yet, so taking sides could be premature, but IF what Jeff reported is true, it is very likely that Disney gave Beau a warning about sending "art inspiration" selfies to subordinates, then got fired when he ignored the warning and kept doing it. That said, I can't say that is true or untrue, just that if he ignored that warning, Disney is right to fire him. To your point, it is not like they were unaware he was Black and gay prior to hiring him, and it is extremely unlikely there aren't several other Black and/or gay staffers, AND it is extremely unlikely Disney would fire the head of a show without at least some reason. We just have to wait and see what is actually true.
People gotta start being honest about the acolyte.....it was bad writing, low viewership and big budget that killed that show. I'm black and i get tired of companies trying to placate me. Just because you make a main character black doesn't mean I'm going to like if the show itself isn't good. The acolyte wasn't good...... The fans realized that and stopped watching 2-3 episodes in.
I'm 55 from a time in storytelling where the audience had to do some of the heavy lifting, mentally and we accepted the world given to us. We went in knowing all the shit is made up, not a historical documentary. That shit you're watching is not our universe. If we wanted reality, we went outside. Now, folks think hyper-correction and nit-picking makes them sound intelligent. It's like that snotty 'thinks-they-know it all' from sixth grade. I shoot folks down all the time, "So, you accept beings who live for thousands of years, dragons, magic but can't get past characters surviving a Pompeii incident and only going blind? Okay, maybe the Gods intervened or her grandma cast spell of protection against hot ash based on a premonition."
Twilight Zone and Supernatural never could've been made in the age of internet controversy and I hate it. None of the people who complain about these shows today have any taste in art.
Acolyte had some bad writing, crappy, undisciplined and tragically flawed Jedi( kind of forgive that as early Jedi might not have had their shit together and were just trying to stack numbers regardless of character or acuity) but I was looking forward to season 2. Maybe they'll do a comic.
