They look great. well done!
Excellent job
Wonderful
Oooh nice!
I’m halfway through making these now. Going well👍
@@kevinmcgrath3591 Let us know how you go and your thoughts on the sound, even if you could put up a UA-cam video with a soundtrack of female vocal, that would be awesome. i nearly bought the kit but ended up going with the Troels Gravesen " Discovery 861 " kit, for the money very good..thanks.
Nice work.
thank you, I must upload the finished 'real' photos, almost the same , not red, black 'hammered' finish
Great work and they look fantasic, not sure about the led lighting but other than that, well done. A thought would be do the front baffle with bamboo panel and back cabinet in a contrast colour, perhaps black.I nearly bought the kit but went with one of Troels Gravesen designs..thanks.
Hey thanks, too kind - you cant get bamboo panel here in Ireland ;-( the LED lighting has been dropped. I had a bit of a crisis last week regarding the high gloss red finish. I want to get them done and working but that would take too long and be too difficult to get perfect. after considering everything to Army style (camo) and drab green, black and cow pattern and other mad ideas. I have settled on using Hummerite (Rust-Oleum in USA) black hammered gloss finish, with a grey back box. this is quick and forgiving with imperfect carpentry.

@@kevinmcgrath3591 Well Kevin, I'm impressed and the Hammerite black looks great and will contrast well with the grey back cab. I think the fire engine red for the back would look fantastic. Overall the cab design/shape is way better than the GR Research flat pack. I just might have to spend money I don't have and get the kit. I do want to follow what you have done but not sure I can get cnc cutting so would need to
try duplicating from your photo's ( I will have the draw plans with the kit ) Keep in touch please and hope you put up a vid with a music track! ( think Chantal Chamberland eg: female vocal ) cheers Alain
Does Danny approve of the sonic changes this refined design (especially the front baffle) creates?
hi - read the reply to bubblepuppy below
Kevin,
How is the Bass response?
The bass response is clean tight uncoloured and fast, not particularly extended for rock / techno music, Sub needed for that. They really shine regarding imaging clarity and broad soundstage, amazing really, probably due to the very high quality crossover
@@kevinmcgrath3591 Thanks a lot Kevin
I really like the design but it would be helpful to have some measurements taken on them
I think everything you need is downloadable from the cloud here (link below). The measurements are Metric as I am in Ireland and had to redraw everything for local CNC cutting. mega.nz/folder/5gAA2bgB#u-o9aEI8tsLXJWqg3HyZBw
@@kevinmcgrath3591 sorry Kevin, what I meant was frequency response and other acoustic measurements.
@@jeffh.6223 why ?
@@ATommy-lz4jd why???? Data is always good...since baffle changes could change response and radiation patterns, I wouldn't want to make assumptions and then expend all the labor and materials which could give aberrant results...would you just build it without knowing???
the brown sound breaking in is here - ua-cam.com/video/UuSOrjNxdSI/v-deo.html
So...
You removed a very carefully designed side baffle, removed a very carefully designed wave guide, changed the timing of the tweeter vs the woofer, and you not only consider this an improvement but also retain the original name?
On top of all that, you don't upload frequency response so we can compare it to the actual XStatic?
I have to say this is all very mis-guided....
please yourself mate, lots of words, well done
A speaker review with no sound. Yeah, that's logical.
Its not a review bud. its just to show the restyling for the box.
@@kevinmcgrath3591 OK, Mack, but it was a review for me because I've seen it before.
