Lion brands 24/7 Cotton might be a good choice for a bag. It's a chainette yarn and I think it's mercerized cotton too. I haven't had a chance to work with it but I have touched it
I love and use lion brand 24/7 almost exclusively for my bags.
@@leestreeter7265 I love it too, and it's the only cotton yarn I'll use now. I read a lot of people saying that it's like rope, or it's not soft, but I disagree. Especially after washing....it gets SO soft. It makes the best dish cloths, and the size 3 is really nice for summer tee shirts. I'm still using dishcloths that I made a long time ago, and the color is still great, but the slight shine wears off after awhile. But that doesn't bother me.
I'm still needing to finish the bag I'm making with this yarn. I hate cords and need to adjust the pattern for different straps.
That yarn is definitely the best cotton for bags!
I’ve fallen in love with Premier Afternoon Cotton Yarn, it’s mercerized , so good.
I googled mercerized cotton and it says it's more durable and won't melt if used for high heat like a pot holder. Thanks for your tip!!
Hello, the bag pattern is great! Major difference between the 2 cotton used in your bag. 1 of them is a cotton acrylic yarn clean, which is more durable than 100% cotton. Both might be great for clothing. But the blend would be a lot for things likes, baskets, totes, toys alike.
I've been using the same cotton. I made a sunflower to put on my key chain. After a month now, it doesn't look as pretty as it did when I i first made it. It's hard to describe, it shed cotton and looks bad. Made pot holders and dish cloths and have washed them. They're ok. Lots of cotton fuzz in the dryer lint trap. So I think it's good for that kind of project but not decorative things or wearables. Good to know you have same problem with this yarn. We're both on the hunt now for a better cotton. Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn is the best I've tried, and is the only one I'll use now. It's a mercerized cotton so it has a slight sheen to it. It washes beautifully, and is SO soft after washing, and the color doesn't fade.

I use" I love that cotton" all the time. Never noticed shedding or pilling. In fact I just grabbed some and pulled and tucked at the threads and nothing. You must have had a bad ball of green.

Same! I only use I Love This Cotton & have never had an issue with it. I won’t use any other cotton.
Love, love, love Premier Cotton Sprout Worsted. They have the DK version called Cotton Sprout if you prefer the lighter weight. 😉
My go to cotton yarn for bags is Lion brand 24/7. I love the finished look and feel. It is a mercerised cotton that has a sheen that I think gives my bags that little bit of elegance look.

I love - I love this cotton yarn!!! I use it all the time for washcloths, potholder, etc!!! Maybe you should try the anti- pilling yarn.
I use it for shawls, ponchos etc. it wears so nice!
I love this yarn BUT, I do find it fuzzes incredibly. I made a bag by Kristin Omdahl with a ton of fringe and I always get a gold (color used) is all over my clothing. I even washed it hoping it would go away, but it didn’t. I would still use it but not for wearables. Great video
Thanks for the heads up. I’ve only bought cotton yarn for making tops. It was NOB HILL Bamboo Breeze 50% cotton, 50% rayon from bamboo. Herrshners had it on clearance sale for $1 a ball 50 grams (129yards). It was a little splitty but it holds up well. I was gifted some Cloud Cotton estelleyarns that I made a beach bag out of. It shed a little, and after it was washed and dried it looked a bit aged. My daughter is using it right now on her vacation. After she comes back we’ll find how well it holds up.
YES to all this. I bought some in every color bc it was so soft and everyone raved about it. I mostly do amigurumi and it is so fragile, i barely tug on it and it will rip which means I have to redo so many pieces. I honestly don't know what this yarn would be good for and I'm stuck with so much.

Yeah, I used that yarn in 2020 for a handful of projects and they didn’t hold up well enough for me to buy that yarn again. I’m trying to use cotton blends and chainette cotton yarns to reduce wrist, hand and elbow pain now, too. I’m currently using King Cole Finesse (77% cotton, 23% silk) and it feels so soft. I’m not sure if it would work for bags but I’m really enjoying the way it feels when I crochet. I’m using it to make a hexagon shirt.
I really like that brand of cotton and have made many bags with it before. I usually launder and block the bags before I use them. Maybe you got a bad green. I also really like the K&C from Joann's maybe that yarn would work better for you. The green and blue look really good together and you work looks fantastic. Have a great one and ignore that ugly comment up there. I could feel your frustration.
I made a pair of pants on my knitting machine with this yarn.Enjoyed the process but the yarny is very fuzzly. Just washed it; will know in the morning
Lion Brand 24/7 is amazing for bags! It’s a nice, solid, mercerized cotton so there’s absolutely no halo effect even after using it as my daily carry for the past year! It’s not a yarn I’d recommend making a blanket out of or anything you’d want to snuggle with, as it isn’t super soft, but it’s very durable. Tons of colors available and most colors will also come in DK weight, if you have interest in thinner yarn.
I used ILTY a few times and between the guilt of giving any money to Hobby Lobby and the end product made from their yarn being crummy compared to others, I don’t use it anymore.

Premier Cotton Sprout and Hipster. I use them to make all sorts of wearables that I sell and people love them.
I love this cotton yarn by Hobby Lobby. I use it all the time. I have noticed the shedding. After an item has been washed, it does not shed. It may help if you wash it to avoid the shed.
The only cotton I have used is Premier Home Cotton. It is not designed in my opinion for wearables, but it contains 15% polyester. Perhaps a fiber mix like that would be more durable than 100% cotton. Just a guess on my part.
I'm not having any trouble understanding the point...the yarn sheds badly, splits and fuzzes. Got that by 6 minutes in. Video is fine!

I think hobby lobby could be the issue. Idk I’ve gotten certain yarn I’ve worked with before not of the best quality. Idk if they buy yarn lots that are not perfect idk.
There are different I love this products. I love this yarn, I love this cotton. They are different things. I've never had a problem with either. Must have been a bad batch. :/
