Please do not publicly bash Hobby Lobby or Walmart in the comments. Every company has their flaws, this is just a yarn video, not a bash the store for other reasons not concerning yarn video... also, the white being a little different is probably a dye lot issue... I wouldn't of noticed had I not held them together, Hobby Lobby looks white by itself
Bag-O-Day Crochet I’m from the UK and would be only too happy to have a chance to shop in both these stores. It’s my yarn dream to try lots of different yarns from their stores..a girl can only dream! 🧶🧶🧶🧶😍😍😍
I think the mainstay would be great for dyeing because the white is a little more crisp. Then you can have all the colors you want!!
My nearest Walmart has those colors plus a light blue.
My Walmart has five colors. Pink,blue,gray,white and black. Haven’t seen a tan yet This yarn in my opinion works up and washes well and dries beautifully
I was in the Walmart yarn department today and saw this yarn but I also saw a thick, bumpy cotton yarn, probably a 6, in Mainstay. It was only 50 yards at $ 3.68 (I think) so it's high. I also compared their acrylic to Super Saver. Mainstay was much softer and cost less.
The cashier at Hobby Lobby called me " The yarn girl" ... (I usually go there during my lunch hour) She made my day! hahaha I felt like a celebrity 😂
I went through 4 skeins of I love this cotton and found knots in every skein where the mill had tok tie on a new spool. When I used 4 skeins ofmMainstay I had no knots at all
I’ve used 10 skeins of I Love This Cotton in Dark Denim for a blanket and found no knots in the first 7 (purchased a couple of months ago). The 3 skeins (purchased in September ) have each had a knot or two per skein. I have not tried MainStays yet.
I'm taking this video as a sign. It came out 5 minutes ago as I'm getting ready to go to my Walmart. 😉 Gonna get some yarn!

I have tried both and like them both if I had to choose it would be hobby lobby but if I can’t get there I would go to Walmart however hobby lobby does deliver online

I had no idea Walmart had 100% cotton... My favorite type to crochet with!!! I have to drive an hour and a half to go to Hobby Lobby. I love the stark white also!! Woo hoo! THANK YOU CRYSTAL!!!
The one from Hobby lobby has a yellow tint to it, more on a warm spectrum. The Walmart one has a bluish tint, more on the cool color spectrum. That's what I noticed. I haven't used either of these, so learned something about them today.

I would agree they are made by the same company, jus marketed under different brands. Also, if you check on Walmart website, you might find more colors and could have them shipped to your local Walmart for free shipping or to your home if over $35 for free shipping
I love the Walmart brand yarn and had been wondering about it. I just bought it two weeks ago to finish a sweater I was working on. It is excellent for making clothes and it has draping ability and it's sooo soft. I was rather surprised and will definitely purchase more for other projects. Thanks for the review.
I checked my local Walmart, they have 7 different colors, brown, black, blue, green, pink, grey, and white. Tfs Crystal.

Yes, especially with cotton because we are using it in our kitchen's & bathroom's it has to be washable & dryable for me too 😊! Anything else I hand wash also 😊💝.

I found the mainstay cotton in my Walmart about 2 months ago, they are also selling an acrylic that looks like carron simply soft has that same shine to it and oh so soft! Very nice for me because my budget doesn’t allow for a lot of trips to the big craft stores. Thank you for the review Crystal!

To be fair, Walmart just came out with this yarn: Hobby Lobby has had I Love This Cotton for many years. I love both of these stores and am blessed to have both 2 miles from each other and 8 miles from me!
Not that anyone has Venetian blinds this old but...if you have blinds from the 1980's and the bottom bar has a label that says Levelor, JC Penney, or Sears, you will find the blinds are virtually identical. All colors weren't available to Sears and Penneys though.
(Funny story, an elderly couple actually came to the factory *furious* because a Penneys label was on their Sears blind [or vice versa, long time ago, can't remember which] and demanded that we make them one from the company they ordered from because they would *never* shop at that other despicable store. We were like, "uh, can we just change the label for you? They're all made from the same material on the same machines." 😒 Very true and crazy story lol)

Good to know! I'm currently crocheting a pocket shawl with I Love This Cotton and I do love it. I checked online for Walmart's yarn and there are 7 colors. Black, tan, blue, green, pink, gray and white. They also carry a bulky cotton as well.
I have used the Mainstay acrylic. I liked it. Now I'm going to have to try the Mainstay cotton. I like your yarn reviews and/or comparisons makes yarn shopping easier. Thank you ever so much
Thank for the review... I don't have a hobby lobby in Toronto (I don't think we do)and I always questioned the quality of the yarn at Walmart. I am happy to hear that Walmart reviewed well. When you are on an ECE budget, anytime I can save some $$$ makes me very happy. 😘

I buy lots of wal-marts mainstay yarn 🧶 and personally feel it’s softer than red heart. Now I’m gonna have to buy the cotton for sure.
Much softer and easier to work! I've made several while and ponchos during the lockdown

Hobbii from Denmark buys yarn "made in Turkey " and puts her name on the label.
For example:
"Yarnart Flowers" cake yarn ( 254 - the original yarn) and Hobbii "Twister Galaxy " (04),these are the same yarns,weight,lenght and colors.
In germany "Yarnart Flowers " costs one cake ball 8.45 euros and " Twister Galaxy one cake ball 20.00 euros.( Hobbii).
The yarns are the same but the price is diffrent.
That's why I don't buy from Hobbii,because the same yarn are expensiv.
Sadly it is always so.
Please do more of such comparisons.

Sometimes my Walmart doesn't have much yarn the section is only half one side of an isle. But I'm excited to see if my Walmart gets it in. My hobby lobby is 45 mins away, so only go when there is a good sale. Again I'm always shopping for a bargain when I buy my yarn. Thanks for the comparison so helpful.
I noticed that with the closest Walmart in my area. It's across the highway from a Joann's, so the Walmart's craft section is small and the yarn section is half of a small aisle. The Joann's yarn section is about 4 aisles filled to the brim.
I'm crocheting like crazy, and I want to relearn how to knit--probably no more than dishcloths, lol, but I'll give the Walmart cotton a try with it. Hobby Lobby is sixty miles away from me.
I made a shawl out of the black and white from Wal-Mart. Love it. My Wal-Mart only had Red, White, Black.

This is a great comparison thank you. In Canada we don’t have Hobby Lobby so it’s nice to know that we may have something similar to Hobby Lobby. As for the colour it looks like one is a “warm” & one is a “cool” white much like lightbulbs can be. Depends on what your preference is that’s all. 🧶🧶🧶

Thank you for the comparison. Well I'm way off the band wagon on Hobby Lobby. I just found out there is one 8 miles from me. Unfortunately it will take me 35 minutes to get there because of Jersey traffic, lol. Walmart is 4 miles away and takes me 20 minutes to get there. I'll have to check them both out. For Christmas I used Hobby Lobby cotton for making flower trivets for all the ladies at church. They loved them. Our Walmart has almost no yarn so we drive 30 mins to Hobby Lobby in 2 towns over.

Yup, LOTS of colors in the Hobby Lobby brand, but the price is more reasonable in the Wal-Mart Mainstays brand - so, depending on what I'm crocheting, I'll shop for both!😊💝

Yes I agree they’re pretty much the exact same yarn. Walmart is also closer to me than Hobby Lobby. For some reason my Walmart has cut a lot of yarn out of their stock and I don’t know why. I will drive to Hobby Lobby if I can’t find what I want at Walmart. Thanks for sharing!!!
I love the fact that I can get 100% cotton from either place. I'd order it as my local stores don't carry it.

I'm the same way! I never ever put my crocheted apparel in the washer and dryer. I believe that is why my stuff always looks new and lasts for a very long time.

Thanks for using the kraft paper for the background; it made the white cotton yarn stand out. The color difference between the two is very, very slight. You know how there's so many shades of white paint? That's how this struck me. Hobby Lobby's is a faint creamy white; Mainstay's a bright white with a faint bluish tint. There's good things about both yarns. If you live near a Hobby Lobby or want to order from them, you'll have a lot of colors to choose from and they run that 30% off sale frequently. If you shop at Walmart, you're getting decent yarn at a good price every day.

Hi Crystal, hobby lobby has a good variety .I would probably go to them. The white could be the same dye, but the Walmart could have a slightly stronger concentration of dye mix making it whiter.

I've wanted to try hobby lobby cotton. Before I didn't know much about yarn and what to make with it. Watching your videos tho !! I've learned so much ! Haven't got to get any yet. Trying not to go out much .
My Walmart has the Mainstays Acrylic. Its soft and cheap. I bought variegated and solids. I will continue to buy these.
When you had the 4 colors lined up it would truly make a pretty color mixture!!!!!! The teal, white, pink and tan!!!
