    His build would be a bit better if they just implemented Shield Brace. It really looks like they wanted to make him a Stalwart Defender and tripped at the last hurdle.

    Just rewatching your old build videos because I'm doing a Lich playthrough soon myself and I just wanted to say I'm liking destructive shockwave and thundering blows less and less.
    For destructive shockwave it's damage is subject to damage reduction so it usually does little to no damage. Pretty much the only person I like it on is Seelah because of smite evil making it ignore damage reduction.
    For thundering blows the reasons I don't like that are 1, it's sonic damage which gets resisted without ascended element. 2, it's based off the positioning of your character plus the size. If you get to big, which you do eventually, it just doesn't reach the enemy

    Undead are immune to mind affecting abilities. Undead immunities are one of the strongest features of the Lich path.

    I feel like with the feats they started to build him as if he was going into the Stalwart Defender prestige class (toughness is a prereq and tower shields and armor focus all synergize somewhat) but then they forgot halfway through.
    Per the wiki it looks like on the tabletop Staunton was SUPPOSED to be an antipaladin, not a warpriest, and he worshipped Deskari of all things. They definitely could have done better with him in WotR

    The default Owlcat builds are the reason I consider the respec mod to be a must have. I just can't stand all the wasted feats, especially on the undead party members. Also why Owlcat refuses to give a full respec option off the bat is just beyond me.

    • @SlanderedGaming
      @SlanderedGaming  2 роки тому +3

      I think they decided not to give a full respec because many of these characters classes are tied into their stories. Seelah, Camellia, and Regill's stories don't make as much sense if you respec them into something else.

      I'd settle for level 2 respec too, but would prefer still having a full respec option maybe under advanced difficulty settings. That way you could play the companions as they are supposed to be on the first few playthroughs, but still be able to experiment later without losing all character interaction like you would with a party of mercs.

    He absolutely should take 16 wisdom, either baseline (its only -1 to hit and damage to not allocate these points to strength) or take wisdom headband (you can get headbands which do both wisdom and charisma). Extend spell for divine power, righteous magic and geniekind is a solid choice for these spell slots). Righteous magic on its own more than offsets the strength loss, and you cannot use other size increasing buffs like enlarge person or legendary proportions due to being undead, unless its brownfur transmuter and frightful aspect.

    if you want to give your Staunton both WISDOM 16 and Charisma, you only need to find the book: tome of understanding +2 !
    If you use it with Staunton he get 2 wisdom perm. and the problem is solved!

    Yunno the best build for him is Vital striker, he can hit with 200+ once you get him to lvl 16 and get the mythic vital strike feat. Sloting shatter defense is a good idea i havent thought about, getting the improved cleaving finish and you make his reach high enough he can clear a room by himself..
    Edit 1:Using table top teaks fucks his build even more so it was a bit harder.
    Edit 2: Putting his skill ranks in "Use magic device" will let him use extended transformation scrolls so that he can hit harder and more often.
    Edit 3: Endgame i had like 3 or 4 [headbands of mental perfection +6 and +4 and a few with both wis and cha, you might've missed them. They fit him like a glove.

    I personally take the other route and use him as a Tower Shield meat shield, as I level him up. I choose either Wep focus: dwarven axe or Wep focus: heavy mace and use sacred weapon to improve the damage dice and interpose him between my back-liners and the monsters until his strength gets better, between him and my vanguard skelly they make a hell of a shield wall. Thundering blows is a must. I also like outflank as well. For me it's making the best of a stupid situation created by whoever designed the character. We should have been permitted to completely respec the characters all the way back to and from Level 1.

    The best Mythic ability for Staunton is elemental barrage. He gets both his class ability to add elemental damage and access to Geniekind, for very easy procs adding loads of damage.
    Apart from that, not a bad build. Hard to build him to be great as his stats and starting feats are just so all over the place. Owlcat definitely did the dirty on him when making his initial character build. I mean high dex with heavy armour focus, tower shield proficiency, agile maneuvers and glaive weapon focus, why?

    • @gharn2594
      @gharn2594 2 роки тому +1

      Also I respectfully disagree about your comments on dazzling display and selective channel. Dazzling display because it is required for shattered defences, one of the best feats in the game. Selective channel because when you get Staunton you will have mostly living party members, making channel negative energy harm living one of his most powerful abilities.

      Finally, I really wish Staunton came at level 1. Keep toughness, don't care. But give us choice in his build. Especially considering some of the other undead party members come at such low levels even later in the game. Next patch pls Owlcat.

    stauntone is a mess, I knoe they built him roleplay wise, but actually make him useful is .... a job in my necromancer play through (sidlined because I used too many mods, big mistake with all the patching) I managed to get hime to be useful with attack of oppurtunty I would use a belt of dextarity to increase is dex, I would also give him combat rellex and then (and this is one of the few time I found this mythic feat useful) destinay beyond birth, otherwise I basically followed your build.
    either way... no more modding this game, for me, my demon playthrough is unplayable do to using a outdated mod and I had just gotten done with iZ [crys}

  • @notalefty999

    Staunton seems to have an intentionally terrible build. Heavy armour focus with 18 dexterity and no armour training. A lower wisdom than is needed to cast max level spells which are only level 6. Dazzling display with 1 skill point per level, and no way of reaching max ranks in persuasion starting with 0 ranks at level 10. Agile manoeuvres without a single combat manoeuvre feat. A shield feat when having weapon focus on a two hander. Power attack without nearly high enough AB to want to use this.
    As you say, the class itself is pretty good, and over time you can salvage him by picking some of the weapon focus and specialisation feats, and buffing with personal buffs, most notably divine power and righteous might. But his build is inexcusably bad. The feat selection isnt simply suboptimal for RP reasons, its completely incoherent. The stat allocation is awful. He needs strength, wisdom and dex, is mediocre in every one of those stats, and has maxed dexterity.

    • @SlanderedGaming

      Yeah people keep saying it's the result of bad decisions by Staunton but to me that build doesn't reflect his choices it's just bad.
