I just got an F100 and Mesa 4X12 OS cab for a steal of a deal and I got to say it's a killer head. A boost in the front and an EQ pedal in the loop really helps get it to that next level. Tons of thump, it really pushes a lot of air through those speakers.
The amount of Low End on the F-100 is RIDICULOUS! No EQ Needed... but if you're not using a boost... the Bass control generally needs to basically be OFF haha! Congrats not he F-100! Cheers -Ryan
My buddy has both these amps. Had the late 80s f100 for years and just got a mark V couple weeks ago.... He's gonna have a bad ass stereo rig eventually
F100 sounds like proper breakup and gain. Mark V is trying the Rectifier sound of Angry bees always present. If I want fuzz or angry bees I will use a pedal.
Both are good amps, F-100 might sounded better at lower gain, but not enough "chug" as compared to Mark V on high gain situation. But then again, the Express series does those things better than F series, I wish they can do Mark I type of tone though.
I have an F-100 2X12 60/100W combo, it's a beast. I find it a good cross between the old Studio series and the Mark V. I also have a Dual Rectifier and between the two of them I get any sound I want (blues, jazz, country, hard rock, death metal). And you can never have too many Les Pauls...lol
I'm not sure why you got the mark v to sound like that with the Strat. Pretty sure you could get the mark to sound identical to the F100. The mark can do anything, but the F can only do what it does. Don't get me wrong, it sounds great, but the mark runs circles around the F
The Mark V can do a lot, for sure! But the F-100 can get that certain growl with down tuning that the Mark can't. The F-100 is certainly limited, though. But there's a reason most of us have a bunch of different amp heads haha Cheers -Ryan
No EQ Pedal used... I constantly change my settings on the F100 but a safe bet would be Treble 4:30, Mid 2:00, Bass 5:00, and Gain around 3:00. Contour switch is definitely on! Only pedal I used was an MXR Smartgate Cheers -Ryan
Can I ask the tubes are you using? Thanks for settings, I will try on my F-50 using the contour ;) The master? My 50 is hell loud.. the 100 is even louder than mine!! :D
Stock 6L6 Mesa Tubes. Couldn't tell you for Master settings lol I have my Cabinets in a separate room so I'll move the master on the Amp and move the Gain on my Mic Preamp around until I get something pleasing to the ear. Cheers -Ryan
Man I'm struggling! I have a mesa boogie F50 that sounds pretty much like your f100, I'm guessing they aren't super different. I'm about to get another amp. Can't decide between the mesa boogie triple rect. Or the mark IV. I am thinking I'll split the signal and run the triple rect along with the F50 thinking the F50 will tighten up the bottom end while the triple rect gives that crazy high end. But maybe I ought to just go for the mark IV??? I hope you respond
Don't be the guy who got a Triple Rectifier over a Mesa Mark IV! My Mark IV is one of my favourite amps! I like it over my Mark V! Triple Rectifier will give you more headroom than a Dual, but it can somewhat pigeon hole your sound over a Mark Series. I have 33 Tube Heads and the Mark IV is my #2 Head, behind my VHT Pittbull Ultra Lead. Cheers -Ryan
Ok. After 3 months of hand wringing, I went with the mark IV, I am now broke but the proud owner of a killer amp. No UA-cam video could ever do justice to what it feels like to play this thing. Thanks again for the input, I couldn't stop hearing "dOnT bE tHe Guy" just couldn't pull the trigger on the dual rectifier. Haha cheers man
The F-100 eats the Mark V. Transients are slightly better with the Mark V but the F gives a much richer and fuller tone, close to that vintage Fender tone. No wonder even Mesa declared that the F was named as maybe their best clean sounding amp series EVER. It's cleans are far better than a Recto's and still it's got that edge when pushed. mesaboogie.com/support/out-of-production/f-series.html

A buddy of mine owns a F50 combo, one of the best sounding and affordable gigging combos Mesa made. A shame they're discontinued.
I'm loving it! The lows are GREAT and the reverb is HIGHLY useable! Cheers -Ryan

Thanks for the great video. with the million and 1 choices, this is helping get closer to making a one
The F50 table is great. what struck me was the very organic clean, while the v mark sounded thin and sterile.

I have a F-100 I just love the tone!!

I've an F-100 combo that I've had for years and love it but, now I think its obvious....I need both...... and another Les Paul.

The sound on your vidz is great. TY.
I loved the cleans on thr mark V (Mark 1 mode?), and the thick high gain of the f100.
I have an f50 combo. I'll never sell it. I'd like both amps though

I definitely preferred the F-100 in this demo.

I have an F50.. what settings are you using on dirt channel? No EQ pedal right? Thanks

Ahaha ok! And the pre tubes? Thanks, you're helping me so much!
Stock Mesa 12AX7, everything is still Stock on the Amp. Cheers -Ryan

@@Crypticmaskguitar hey thanks man, I value your input

Could you do a shoot out with a dc-5 or dc-10. These amps are barely on UA-cam in a quality video. The dc amps also have a post graphic eq. Thanks!
We only do reviews on gear that we own. If I find a DC I’ll buy one and do some videos on it. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar thanks man!!
hmmm the F100 sounds better.... but they are no longer made :(
The F-100 sounds awfully tinny and thin in comparison, not digging it, even if they are cheaper.
Yeah, especially with strat. Kappa
Huh?! Are you guys watching the same video I am?
The F100 sounds huge and meaty compared to the can of buzz bees MkV
