they preform a toast of sorts with drinking a cup with eachother,
the losing bishop then shows his cup was empty and he was faking it so the other bishop gets angry and pummels his head.

A little bit late, but as I understood it after examining it, they were competing who would finish his drink first (one of them even counts before the start), then the slower one got angry that he lost and killed him.

When you are 8 years old, the animations is what keeps you playing while you learn chess and you dont even know it. Thats how I learned chess with the original Battle Chess back in early 90s.
