I bought a Wii U in 2017 and still use it to this day. I've played 7 Zelda-games on this console so far - 3D-originals and 2D-emulations. It's just awesome, I enjoy it so much! One thing I really like about the Wii U and feel like the Switch is severely lacking is the detailed record of when and how long you have played any game. The Wii U shows you each exact day when you've played a title (and how long on that day), going back for *years* - combined with a neat presentation of colourful visuals and a nice music. The Switch only shows you... the total number of hours a title was played. I have so many great memories with my Wii U, and treasure them a lot.
7:57 The way the Wii U looked and its advertising confused me growing up about what the Wii U truly was. On top of its UI, Nintendo's marketing for it was poor in delivering much about the console and personally as both a DS and a Wii user, led me to think it was a portable system.
I've lost parts of my Wii U, so I can't play it anymore. I wish I could play Nintendo land with my brother since it was such a good party game :(. Maybe I will buy a used Wii U, or maybe even get a Steam Deck for Wii U emulation. Anyways, thank you more for this video, and I hope you gain the subscribers u deserve!
Our Wii U game pad just recently stopped being able to charge so we’ve not been able to do much with it anymore unfortunately. We used to play Nintendo Land all the time, myself my brother, our 1 cousin and our other two cousins. My dad does want to try to fix it at some point, and I recently bought us some replacement Wii remotes and nunchucks since some of our old wiimotes but the dust and we lost most of our nunchucks somehow. At least our Wii is still functional.
I was one of the many people who was talking trash about the Wii U when it was out. And I was someone who’d owned every Nintendo home console going back to the NES. The funny thing is, after the Wii U was dead and buried, I decided to pick one up used. Now I get what Wii U fans were talking about. It’s actually a really cool little console. When the Wii U Gamepad was used well, it was awesome. And even when they didn’t, being able to play games off screen is still neat. Does the Switch do it better? Yeah, in most ways. But the Wii U REALLY shows what it’s made of when you jailbreak it. Once you do that, the Wii U becomes the ultimate Nintendo machine. Since the hardware is a direct descendent of the GC/Wii, it plays GC natively (i.e. no emulation). Add that with the gamepad, you’ve got GC games on a portable machine. And you’ve got all that Wiii software. For me, who loves light gun games but refuses to lug around a CRT, the Wii is kinda your best bet. Long story short, the Wii U has a lot of secondary uses. I use my Switch every day but my Wii U has a proud spot in my entertainment center.
I’m still disappointed to see that all the charm of the Wii U was completely omitted from the switch. It has a very boring UI and less features. I was shocked to find out it didn’t even have an internet browser.
I totally agree… but this was a very deliberate decision by Nintendo. They did not want ANYONE to be reminded of the Wii U or even the Wii for that matter. They wanted a clean break. Now, does that mean they couldn’t have given it a liiiiiiitle charm? Yeah but no one is confusing a Switch for a Wii U. The Switch feels like Nintendos version of a tablet.
I don't think Rayman Legends Wii U stuff was really that big...but I've only played it on Switch really...but Lego City's stuff? That was honestly pretty cool.
Really enjoyed the video, The WiiU means a great deal to me too. Oh, one thing...The WiiU didn't succeed the Switch, it preceded it. I guess you could make the thing work by putting a comma between Succeeds and the "The Failure that Succeeds, the Switch" - but that's still a head scratcher, I'm not sure the title is a clever as you think.. no matter how much I narrow my eyes and rack my brain, I can't make it make sense.
FYI, the reason Nintendo decided not to include a web browser was because a) people never really used it except… b) avoid people hacking the system. Exploits are so often found in Web Browsers. Has anyone noticed that the only way to hack the Switch is a pain in the ass. Compared to the Vita, Wii, Wii U, PSP, etc. All systems hacked to hell.
Even though I have a Nintendo Switch I wanted too get a Nintendo Wii U 2 years ago I have been playing the Wii U more than my Nintendo Switch I also wanted a way too play HD Wii on a TV not just stay in bad composite out put
3:25 - You made a glaring error there. Rayman Legends WAS supposed to be a Wii U exclusive, but due to Ubisoft’s absent mindedness, they delayed it so it would release alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. So it didn’t qualify as an exclusive at that point.
John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Did anyone else never know the kid from stranger things was in the Wii U ad at 1:31 ?
I like the Wii U better and I wish it was still around.
Wii U is an amazing system still today. Great video.
Thank you for it.

@couldn't think of a name They don’t want an internet browser because it’s one of the easiest way to hack a system. Just ask my Wii U.
@@leeartlee915 that's so lame
@@mrkilo-g8794 Agreed but let’s be honest, who really is using their modern consoles to browse the web?
I have a PC, Phone, Tablet, and Laptop. I give zero fucks about a web browser on my video game console.
It’s crazy that most of the best switch games are ports of Wii U games
Yep big facts 💯
Preceded the Switch I think you mean.
I don't think Rayman Legends Wii U stuff was really that big...but I've only played it on Switch really...but Lego City's stuff? That was honestly pretty cool.
Totally agree with you on all of that, even tho I didn't have my own Wii U (my friend borrowed me his for like 7 months)
This video is pretty good, sadly no more videos were uploaded. It is a lot of work but you did a great job.

And I was born!
Nintendo Power was still in circulation in 2012? Damn, that went much longer than I thought it did.
Yes it was active during 3DS and Wii U era
@@mrkilo-g8794 The Wii U? It must have been discontinued shortly after that.

5:13 Well the virtual console itself is emulation so idk what you mean by this.
