- This is a great video! I am not sure who made it, but for some reason it is not on YT anymore, so here it is. All credit goes to the producer and record company. I present it here for archival and educational purposes.
I cried tears of joy hearing this song play when I beat this game, it's a strangely fitting song for this game.
i couldn't agree more with you
Commodore22345 Actually, Yes licensed the song to Sierra after it was recorded. It really did just fit.
Commodore22345 A game which was just remastered and released today on Steam!
***** I just turned the music down and am playing this over the end creds! :D
SecondRook Through much effort, I replaced their music with Yes' music. It doesn't quite match up since they changed the credits some but it works. ;)
Edit: The HwCredits.webm file located in the game directory, that is... ;)
Truth is a simple place, here for us all to see. Reach as it comes to you, as it comes to me; as I will always need you inside my heart. Peace is a word we teach, a place for us all to reach. Sing as it sings to you, as it sings to me; as I will always need you inside my heart.
Bravo Jon, we all need Truth and Peace.
Amen.
Whenever I hear this song, it makes me feel enlightened. It makes me feel like I'm looking past an insignificant, tiny Earth and out into the sheer space of the universe.
That flyby of the scaffold and mothership toward the galactic core right at the end was perfect.
Ah, this brings back memories of finally beating the game, ad hearing this epic song.... This is a game who's world deserves to be continued. We want Homeworld 3, Relic!
What a Roundabout way of this happening...
Homeworld 3 is almost here.
Whenever I was done playing I would play the credits with this song on, it felt as if I was done watching an episode.
Wow, this brings back fond memories. i loved the game and loved this song, It's been so long, like meeting an old long lost friend. I'm now playing the newest version of Homeworld and loving it. Thank you to whomever posted this.
Mazerguru
Just in case anyone reads this, Homeworld will be coming back with its sequel, Gearbox has been working on HD remakes of them which will be released in 2014 along with Blackbird Interactive making a new game entitled Homeworld: Shipbreakers
Thank you very much for sharing this information.
no way...
nothing but pebbles here.
WOW, thanks for sharing
Fantastic video, very impressive !
And a great, great song of Yes !
Thank you, David !
Great song, and hardly arguably the best space game as well as rts game so far.
Stellaris isn't RTS, but is definitely a better space game.
God this song brings back so many memories of my highschool days Thanks man.
I fucking cry tears when I hear the outro of this song. Jon Anderson nails it. yarrr
Always reminds me of my dad
@@peanutbutterdijonnaise yehhh I get that. Nice on keeping a 7 year old comment alive.
I love this song and this game! One of my all time favourites and its nearly 10 years old now!!!
I mean no insult to the YesWest Rabin group, but the Ladder in my opinion is the best album Yes put out since Drama, and it has things I like that I can't find on any other Yes recordings, so it stands out as a special moment in the history of Yes.
Someone with talent and knowledge of the game should make a movie based on homeworld...it's one big original story
Yes tunes are like a fine symphony (like? They are fine symphonies!). Their compositions build to a peak that leaves one exhausted when the tune is over wishing for more. ( much like a classic symphony). Crank it.
Awesome! As someone who is both a huuuuge fan of Yes, AND homeworld, this video is extremely relevant to my interests.
What makes me sad is that the epic keyboard solo is so hard to hear in this version, but otherwise making a interesting credit squence (thanks to the concept art) a truely memorable experience.
Thanks for the great memories Homeworld!
The last prog masterpiece for the greatest game ever. For some small number of us, that's the way it is and probably always shall be.
Yes.
Amazing, I have been playing with these same ship colors since 1999. My first play-through I used the default grey.
This song was sooooo amazing! Hearing it live is 1000 times better. I love this concert tour.
leech riding sentinels was fun times. took some crazy micro to get it to work but man when they showed up unexpected and blew the living bejesus outta someone's whole resource line... so gratifying
The Ladder is a great album. I loved your artwork.
Thanks for sharing it!
That's correct. The original game cd contained some footage of yes in the studio working on this song and some interviews. They explain they liked the idea that everyone is trying to find their way 'home' in a sense which inspired the song. It's probably uploaded somewhere on here. When i played the game to the end i have to say i considered it to be one of the best endings ever. Cataclysm was a really good game too with an excellent story but the ending just fell flat after homeworld.
"No, you don't just sit back and watch everyone die. You save all 600,000 people you have left and you take them straight to the Taiidan emperor to blow him up." That comment is telling me that they're going to his door, saying Hi and blowing him up. I like that.
im watching this in 2011 and i still havent seen a game that you feel like you belong in the game or comes anywhere near reaching the same level of beauty and felling as the homeworld series.
Never found a game that quite matches up to homeworld. Way ahead of its time.
Thank you, I wish they would play this live!
There is a live version of this on the "House of YES" DVD/CD Pretty amazing.
Awesome music, i can't stop listening !
I first played it over 10 years ago, but finished it only now. It feels like defeating a minor demon from your youth... this game could be eerie sometimes!
in that long long ago when a game was so good you could play it again and again and even after years play it again and every time be happy with it.
Thank you for bringing it back. I am an avid YES fan and just crapped my pants when this song played during the end-credits of the game.
I remember hearing this at the end of Homeworld was like hearing 'Still Alive' at the end of Portal. Totally blew my mind.
This... is quite simply... the best game... I have ever played. And I'd rarely ever say that.
I'm a sci-fi fan and I was under a huge impression of 'Yes' music, back then. And then 'Home World' appeared. It was so amazing, the game and story which include everything I love.
According to Wikipedia, Yes licensed this song to Sierra, and as such it was used in the credits of Homeworld, and a preview of Homeworld was included with the album this song appeared on. I believe that this is that preview :)
Thank you, Yes, for the very nice song
Just a heads up. This song has been left out of the Homeworld Remaster due to licensing issues. Apparently the producer that owns the rights was charging an absurd amount of money to use it and Gearbox couldn't afford to get it. A damn shame.
The remastered edition is a bug and glitch fest according to some people. Knowing Gearbox I'm inclined to believe the reports.
They are the typical "invest as less as possible, as much as necessary" developer / publisher unfortunately and it shows in all but their original products. But how much is there? Borderlands and that's it. And even this was sold out by leaving part 2.5 to an external developer resulting in a rather unimpressive, bland game.
So...when I read that they "could not afford" it, it's hard for me to believe it. I think they didn't want to spend the unnecessary bucks.
Actually it is entirely possible. The music industry is weird, you NEVER write in a script that a certain song was playing on the radio for example; because if you do then the studio that owns the rights to that song will charge you more for it because you HAVE to have it. Same here, the producers probably thought you couldn't have Homeworld's end credits without the Yes track.
Not that I'm not saying Gearbox aren't getting a very bad reputation for penny pinching and charging extra for various pieces of crappy DLC tat.
GODzilla GSPB I actually own the Remastered Edition, and it plays pretty solidly.
Seems, to me at least, that Gearbox got their shit together and not only remastered the game, but somehow made it *better.*
DiehardMechWarrior Well apart from the bugs, the non-working formations (no real bonuses), the non-working behavior settings, the cut-out features (no fuell for fighters and corvettes thus support frigate less usefull), the plotstoppers people report...yes...certainly. A product of the kind of quality we're used to from Gearbox. :D
GODzilla GSPB I've yet to encounter any bugs.
Maybe you're just being bitter.
My favourite mission! I used to lure out the ion frigates from the sphere using scouts and interceptors, then steal them with salvage corvettes from behind. I remember stealing aprox 80% of the ion frigate sphere and i had around 150 or so frigates. It took them 10 minutes just to get into wall formation. It's simply priceless when you see 150 ion frigates opening fire on the Imperial Taiidani mothership at the end. Best feeling ever!
What I find most interesting 🤔 about Yes fans is that there can be a wide contrast when comparing the "favorite" Yes album or the "best" Yes album. One fan can dislike a particular Yes album and another fan will say that it's one of Yes' best albums. One thing we can all agree on is that Yes is an extraordinary band with unique talent and there will never be another band quite like them.
There's not really a version of Yes I don't like. I'd rather they release music than not. Well, except for the version of Yes currently, it's a parody of itself but I like the Ladder album as much as Close to the Edge or Relayer or Tales From Topographic Oceans or 90125 or Drama or Going for the One or even the very first album. I think every album has great stuff on it. Exemplary musicians.
Brilliant song ! Remind me off the Close to the Edge days !
this is the greatest, most under rated game ever made
Same here man.
Until the day i die i will never forget the homeworld series. especially this one!
Haha wow never thought I'd find this song.
When I used to play this online, someone I played against hosted our game on a map he made himself and this song was in the background. I never had any idea what it was but it was stuck in my head for years afterwards.
Cool to find it again. :)
This is among the greatest songs ever licensed by a prog rock band for use in an RTS.
I believe some of this vid was played on-stage during the Ladder tour; I saw them in Toledo, OH on a Sat nite [Fri was metro Detroit; Sabbath issue] at a sports center (with some of us, even me, sitting in bleachers). Steve at first had the wrong guitar for this song, & when cognizant of this he whispered to Jon; the band had to stop the song in mid-1st stanza & start over. Jon says this was "1st time ever" Steve made that mistake; when Steve had "guitar 2" in hand they restarted.
I believe this is the Homeworld "preview" that was included with the Yes album "The Ladder."
And yeah, Homeworld is a great game. Was my first online multiplayer game in 4th or 5th grade. Just replayed it a few months ago, actually.
How would you have it? The sajuuk ship exploring the eye of aarran? Some undiscovered frontier? I would adore that man. Imagine it. Homeworld, one of the best sci-fi universes ever created yet always remained underground to us HW fans. -J.Hill-
Great song. Much nostalgia.
The genius of homeworld is the great plotline and background, the emotion and amtmosphere they inject into the game without having any characters. It's a compelling story that makes you root for the races involved.
This is so epic, I cried manly tears of joy.
definitely one of the greatest game ever made in the history of humanity.
The Greatest Game ever EPIC ! Nothing has ever come close, time for another
The video was ok. I liked the whole feel of it. Bored me when watching it but I love the song so much that I would watch it just to listen.
Great album!
I did not know this song... is great!!
I'm a fan of the first row but I do not hear much the modern music... but I am most impressed with the music while I appreciate your work!
this is an excellent video! you have a lot of imagination and knowledge to interpret the metaphors of the precious yes songs
grew up with this game
Excellent video, such a song for the game.
WOW -- does this bring back memories ... what a great game series
My GOD! this is EPIC!
"There is a lot of players who want to have long and epic story mode." Apparently not, since Blizzard heard feedback from fans saying SC2 was "too long," so they actually took out like ten missions for Heart of the Swarm. Can you believe them?
Epic, long story modes FTW
I put this deal together when I was at Left Bank Management/Beyond Music. The band was signed to a mgt and label deal. The collaboration and cross promotion began with my idea, followed by a conversation I had with my sister-in-law who worked at Sierra. I also personally brought Jon Anderson to E3 to promote.
Watching this made me load up HW2 again, and seeing as only one guy was online (and wasn't replying) I made my first serious attempt at single player. Completed it earlier today. =D
The ship name is Khar Selim :) =). The race is Turanic (raiders). I like the way they are ramming each other like a good moment for the viewers ;).
probably most underrated game in history...
Homeworld as well as its sucessors are among the best RTS games ive ever played. I still hope there will be Homeworld 3...some day maybe
Well, we got it, but its not exactly what we hoped for..
Makes me want to go and play the game again now!
... as the Teladis they, "you have to make profitssss!" and there are several ways: bounty hunter missions, station construction, freight or VIP transport, spy missions, salvage missions, escort missions,... At the beginning I try to fly in battle zones and try to salvage equipments dropped by destroyed vessels (missiles, sometimes huge expensive weapons) to make things easier. It's dangerous but you become rich very soon.
This song is triumphant haha. They really hit it with this one.
I'm going to form my own Yes style band now... I miss playing too much and yes inspires me
Super cool song, and one of my favorite video games of all time.
wonderful
Thanks about the explanation :). Good quoting comment of the lyrics either. This OST is so great and appropiate for space discovery and travelling that it is hard to imagine a possible better OST for this game. The lyrics tell the story of the Kushan empire and their Space odyssey (biggest journy in the unknown universe). Epic storyline = EPIC GAME!
Yessir! Cheers to ya.
Such an amazing game. Its story is a classic- Aeneid. Its artwork was ahead of its time. The music rocked. The originality is still unmet I think.
Props to the sci-fi Aeneid game!
amazing, this is science fiction, excellent work
Only after a few hours will you begin to grasp the extreme potential of the game: just have a look on commentaries through the internet, watch trailers... You're holding a jewel! Homeworld 1 was my favourite space opera in the late 90's, but X3 is the one I prefer, although these games are very different from each other. Many civilizations, many missions, hundreds of vessels and the mod community is always on the move... what else? ^^
Muito bom...Yes é uma viagem..
The most underrated game of all time.
You call this underrated and I'm here trying to find Evolva and Kohan fans
This game revolutionized the whole concept of Space Strategy Games...RTS at it's PEAK ;)....
Oh I miss this game... I was wathcing this video in fullscreen and I just caught myself clicking the mouse trying to rotate the view...
I always thought it was weird that the mothership looks like a giant taco.
wow !!!
Great video :-))
******amazing video ********
That has to do with maybe half of what makes this game great; it had an art team with a level of talent that next to no games have had since.
Also, obvious rhetorical question.
Homeworld is my world - literally *the* best game ever
Another fleet is coming out of Hyperspace right
on top of us. We are being overwhelmed!
The beginning of that game always gets ma lil heart going. D;
"This is captain Elson..."
PSYCH
Actually Miczall, not sure if you see this, but you guys should check out carrier command gaea mission. I have been playing it, the story mode, well lets put it this way, the story may be somewhat linear, but when you play, holy crap, it took me around 40 mins to take over one of the islands. And its not a small game at all. Its a combination of fps, vehicular combat, piloting, and strategy steam lined beautifully,
Salvage Corvettes... I loved those things!
Nothing beats homeworld is all i can say....
Excellent music and quite a trippy vid.
~cg5
This is an amazing song.
It's true what you're saying about graphics and mechanics, but when it comes to story and atmosphere there are a few games at present that actually tackle these two aspects. Some of the big hyped last gen games i've played were quite predictable story-wise or mediocre to say the least, compensated only by outstanding graphics. Games like the old DnDs, or shooters like the Half Life series, RTS like Homeworld or Ground Control, RPGs like the Gothic and early Elder Scrolls series, these were great!
Great music and very cool/trippy vid!
~cg5
i love the story line of homeworld
I want these games in modern graphics with this song as the same theme song!
Nice!!
I could still play Homeworld a lot if more people were playing it.
Great Album..
Great song
