- After having problems with my batteries again, I decided to bite the bullet and go for lithium. The price of lithium has reduced to a point now I decided for them to be a viable purchase for myself. In this video, I show you the batteries and how they are fitted my boat.

What and exciting day, getting new batteries. Far more important then a kitchen remodel.

Fortunately the cost of lithium batteries has drop quite considerably so replacing the damaged lead acid was a lot easier to achieve.

@@TrevsTravelsByNarrowboat Just don't let the anti-climate-change-pro-oil mob know... they are convinced lithium batteries are evil and the earth is flat.
Trev, please be very careful mixing lifepo4 with lead acid batteries. They both require different charging regimes, lifepo4 don't like a float charge which lead acid do.
If you run your lifepo4 batteries down too far they could possibly destroy your alternator because they will accept a much higher charge than lead acid.
It's better and safer to charge the lifepo4 batteries using a battery to battery charger (B2B) as you are then able to charge the lifepo4 batteries in the correct way.
Lifepo4 batteries also need bigger fuses as close to the batteries as possible because if you get a wiring problem, short to earth, they will dump all their charge very very quickly.
I'm no expert, this just from my own research in preparation for putting lifepo4 onto our boat.
i did a lot of research before doing this. I have now been running the system for over a month and it is working very well. The lead acid battery is only there to protect the alternator. B2B as I have researched it do not do not fully protect the alternator

Hi Trev, I'm very interested in how your alternator will charge these batteries, will the lead acids when they reach full not force the alternator to reduce amps thus not allowing the parallel connected lifepo4 from reaching full charge or the possibility of the alternator overheating trying to fill those lifepo4s?....More info on this would be great. Hope they are working out for you anyways you will certainly have plenty of power I'm told they are so much better than old lead acid 👍
Because the lithium will take anything being offered until full and the lead acid give out all power being used they will never get fully charged unless you have no drain.
