      Microsoft will be releasing a paid subscription for W10 up to 3 years extended security updates. As of yet we don't know what pricing will be. The Enterprise Corporations prices were killer. Hopefully consumers will be substantially less.

    Too much Linux documentation is written by IT pros for IT pros. When searching online for solutions to issues, waaay too many results are badly outdated. I'm thinking of these things from the point of view of people that are lifelong Windows users that are new to Linux.
    Evilcorp doesn't even see Windows users as human. They see Widows users as things to manipulate and generate profit from.

    • @slava6105

      I generally agree that Linux documentation can be hard to understand or require something special.
      On the other hand, EVERY time I tried searching how to fix the problem windows introduced to me everything I found were either not related to solving it or the answer was written in the manner "microsoft knows better what to do with your computer. Don't try to fix it, it's not a problem (for us at least therefore for you too)"

      I see this completely different.
      When looking for sollutions on windows, you HAVE to make sure the documentation is up to date.
      While for linux, all I usually have to make sure it is for the same distro base (debian, rhel, arch, etc) and the documentation would most likely be correct.
      I have also never in my life read better documentation online than the arch wiki...

    3:20 This always one of my biggest points against Linux: Why should you relearn something that you already know just to work on a system that does the same things but different.
    If you like it or not, Windows was and is _good enough_ to not make people switch (and probably will be even after the latest updates to 11 for most people). So why should you go through all the hassle and switch to a Linux based OS if Windows does not work perfect, but still _good enough_

    • @PaV_Live
      @PaV_Live  3 місяці тому

      Personally speaking, I don't like being spied on and talked down to by a company who only cares about the data they can scrape off me and sell to the highest bidder.
      But another big reason is that I like to encourage people to learn more about things that interest them.
      Im not here to try to convince you that Linux is better or worse. I Just say what I feel and if you have similar thoughts or concerns, I want you to at least try something new and learn.
      If Windows works for you, fine. I get that. Not everyone is as fascinated by this shit as I am. But maybe you could learn something new and gain a new appreciation for a device that we, quite frankly, take for granted in the modern age

      @@PaV_Live I have switched to Linux a little bit over two years ago and I'm already past the starting pain. Depending on the task I prefer Linux over Windows now. The first few months after I switched from a (working) Windows system to Linux I asked myself why I have done such stupidity, as everything does the exact same thing but works different (so as you said: You spend a good amount of time learning stuff you already knew on a different OS). So if the end of Windows 10 really causes a spike in Linux users I expect there to be much more frustration especially with those Linux distros that are presented as being close to Windows (eg. distros with default KDE).
      The other side of such a story: I have a co-worker that uses Windows and one day I saw him using the Edge browser. As a everything-but-definitely-not-Edge guy, I asked him why he uses this browser and not any other browser. He said that it is _good enough_ so he sees no reason to switch. This is exactly why I stayed on Windows for such a long time. Some things bothered me, but it just worked well enough to not make we want to switch.

    Meh, just gonna keep using 10. End of life didn't stop us using an old version before. I already tweaked my 10 installation to forcibly disable telemetry and other spooky shit in it.
    You can do this on 11 too, some of these tools already work for 11. There are also bypasses for the TPM and other hardware restrictions, but it requires messing around a bit more than most users are willing to do.

    Honestly? I think more people will just learn how to pirate Windows 10/11 LTSC rather than use Linux. Since that comes without all the bloat, ads and MS account nonsense.
    In fact, I'm pretty sure even the ones who are just completely burned out on Windows would just become an Apple user rather than give Linux a try.
    Linux is just too big of a step right now, especially since its intermediary user experience is awful. Sure if you just wanna browse twitter or youtube, linux works fine. But the moment you need anything more advanced, like playing games or streaming or doing creative work, it all falls apart. The effort vs reward ratio is just... insane.
    Sure I could spend a week figuring out what combination of terminal commands and libraries and manually compiled source code will make this software sort of work... OR I could just install Windows LTSC and entirely avoid software problems, while also avoiding the microsoft bloat/ad/account nonsense.

    great vid!! yeah i wholeheartedly agree with you here, the state of windows is absolutely deplorable. while i dont see linux just having a massive boom or something like that, its definitely going to gain a bit more traction from users who normally would not care about it, something that ive already been seeing first hand with a couple of close friends asking for tips and generally being more curious about linux than they were before.
    i think the number one resource we can all provide is to just be friendly and open minded!! i believe every linux user can be a great resource for people trying to learn, whether that comes in the form of chatting about it with friends or even getting involved in forums and whatnot, we should all generally try and be more vocal, something i absolutely commend you for doing with this channel, in fact!!
    other than that i think the official documentations from specific distros are a great resource that many people fail to consider (i guess aside from the arch wiki). things like the fedora docs or the mint setup guide have tons of cool facts and details to learn about, often things that everyone should know and get to grips with!!

    I'm not exactly a Linux virgin although I wouldn't hesitate to admit that I'm not clued up on it at all. Recently I have been considering making the jump to using it as a daily driver however I'd like to look at installing some lightweight distros on old laptops first to give me a chance to gain a bit more familiarity before fully taking the plunge.
    The one thing that's holding me back at the moment is that there seems to be so many distros out there that I don't know where to start. Is there a good discord server where I can get reccomendations or perhaps some sort of website where I can throw in the specs and what I'd like to use a system for and have it return a few reccomendations with a list of pros and cons for each?

      For lightweight, I'd personally recommend EndeavourOS. Its based on Arch and is as close to barebones while still having both an easy to use installer and a healthy community thats ready to help you through whatever you need.
      And since its arch, you get access to the AUR to let you play around with more stuff! Im recommending this one specifically because you said you weren't a newbie. But if you want something easier, maybe Linux Mint!

This happened with XP and 7 in the past. They will do anything but use Linux because they are cattle on Bill Gate's farm (according to Terry Davis). I always recommend either Linux Mint if you want some relatively basic and want to get some experience. And Fedora with KDE plasma if you want something to game on or do video stuff or whatever.
      Bazzite is a bit weird in how its set up and I havent touched PopOS in like 2 years so im not sure how it is anymore lol

    This copilot stuff was the last straw, made the switch just now. Tried switching a few years ago, but just didn't work out because most of my daily apps didn't support linux. fast forward to now, and theres good alternatives for all of them, so I can finally get away from the spyware named Windows. Good riddance.

      You can just disable it and if you don’t trust that either then don’t update to a feature update and limit it to security updates only. People are just wanna have a scapegoat to blame stuff on. Just be productive in whatever OS, get your job done and move on to real life.

    • @Jaxx7594
      @Jaxx7594 4 місяці тому

      @@Bluestarferies You seriously think its that easy? Windows doesn't just let you disable it. You've gotta install all sorts of Windows debloaters, etc, and even after all that you're still gonna be spied on, just to a lesser amount. Linux eliminates all of that, due to the fact you have ultimate control over the system. And computers ARE my real life, I'm a programmer.

    • @Bluestarferies
      @Bluestarferies 4 місяці тому

      @@Jaxx7594 of course you gonna have to use a script but that shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.. you think you won’t do troubleshooting in Linux? Also I don’t mind a bit of spying.. tell me one thing that doesn’t spy on you.. if you can do serious work with Linux and be productive then you’re lucky. Until all the most famous audio plugins are available on Linux along with the big DAWs, windows is the only way (and Mac OS which I already use and prefer over windows)

    I think the worst requirement Win 11 has isn't the TPM but rather the CPU. I swear NONE of my PCs, despite having a TPM, have a supported CPU. It's absolutely crazy. The vast majority of computers running Win 10 haven't been / won't be able to upgrade. Why. I literally want to switch to Win 11 so bad but I'm stuck in 10. And no, bypassing the requirements doesn't work, all of my computers keep crashing once it's installed. It is a fucking nightmare.

    I installed Kubuntu on a secondary PC yesterday and I keep having more and more of a terrible time. The OS breaks from just opening the stock applications. Now I can't even liveboot into USB to install something else, because GRUB doesn't show the USB and I tried everything. I'll probably try to wipe the disk somehow and installing Windows again. If you make it to GRUB, you're already too far in the boot process. Either your UEFI isn't set to prioritize booting from your USB drive, or the install iso hasn't been flashed properly to the USB drive.

    Linux has one major problem: it has has no compatibility win other non-Linux systems! Popular apps that have Windows and Mac support aren't available on Linux! it is unacceptable in today's day and age of technology. I don't want to have to be a hacker in order to use my operating system. FUCK LINUX, IT IS A JOKE!

    • @PaV_Live
      @PaV_Live  20 днів тому

      so, is Mac a joke because it doesn't support .exe's either?
      What you're describing isn't Linux's fault. It's just that it's still so niche that major companies don't see it as a viable platform to support. There isn't some magic gatekeeper that's preventing software from running. If Linux gets more support from all of us, maybe some companies will see more value in supporting the platform. We're already seeing that with the likes of Valve, AMD, and Qualcomm working with Linux devs to get better support for the OS. Nobody is your enemy here other than the tech companies who want to keep you locked into their ecosystems.
