i live in minneapolis you definitely need to check out the canal between lake calhoun and lake of the isles that is fire for almost every type of fish in the summer.

As far as camping goes - essentially any island is fair game as long as it’s not posted. I just got done with three days on the Mississippi from hidden falls to red wing.
Love the stone arch bridge spot! You can pull cats out of there while the lakes are still frozen and it's hard to beat having your car right there.

I was kayaking that canal this summer and watched a kid reel in a monster northern!

This is downtown Minneapolis on the Mississippi. You can always catch some channel catfish down here.
