Back in MY DAY, we didn't have unit guides! What do you think about the Greyhairs? Next major video will be on the Modao Battalion. Thanks so much for all the support everyone!
Why would you do your video around rebels lol. Great guide. Definitely my favorite unit this season. One useful detail I don't think you mentioned : If too many shields (or swords or pikes) are dead, switch unit back and forth. Taking them back will rebalance the number the shields swords and pikes evenly.
Ah that's very helpful! I was wondering if there was some sort of mechanic like that for balancing the ranks. And I'm glad you brought up the rebels haha. Recently I've had to multitask my recordings since I'm currently defending the capital (Anliang), making unit guides, and playing the New World Open Beta. I was trying to record Greyhair footage while moving around the open world since I don't have enough hours in the day, but I'm trying to make more!
I go bottom line as well. You still flex on berserkers and many other units. The reasons are different. With top line you destroy the through slightly higher damage. With bottom line you destroy them by taking a lot less damage. One of the few units that can go both lines with great success. As a bonus on the bottom line your charge is pretty good. I fond that even low level greyhairs- level 9 or 10 are able to maintain the front line so the veterancy is pretty interchangeable. EvoLozGaming went bottom line and he still does the things you do. The reason in my opinion is that both lines give resistance and hp with top line winning fights with more damage and bottom winning with more tankiness. Whether you kill the enemy unit by being tanky as fuck( bottom line) or by dealing higher damage( top line) is the same.
Even if I disagree with your veterancy choice and would like to strangle you for it, I'm glad to see a video on the old timers even if most of the information is something I've already known.
Hey! I just wanted to mention that the Greyhair's have an 80% damage reduction during Last Stand, bottom line turns this into 95%. This might not seem very good until you add in the fact that the new longsword rune lets Mercy of Heaven and Knightly vows grant 6% damage reduction! I'm sure you can see how that's pretty good.
Ah thanks so much! And yeah, 80%, that's huge! I think having the bonus damage is good too, as it lets them really shred any unit trying to move them. By my god, getting that up to 95% is certainly something as well. Thanks for the info, do you happen to know the damage boost % as well? Not even the community managers for the game would give me an answer for the exact numbers haha.
To further note, this adds that little sort of mini 'ironsides' particle effect that you see on the unit which is visible on the unit models or in the case of the shield guys, on their shields.
7:27 we had an exclusive Doctrine for Liao's Rangers as well, but when the season was over the doctrine lost its affect and simply read "this doctrine will no longer provide any benefit now that season 6 is over". So I expect the 600 health doctrine to also lose its effect when the season ends, which would make it neither terrible nor unfair game design. However, should this for some reason not be the case this time you are absolutely right, especially considering how well they synergise with additional health.
Well for example, the Shieldmaidens have the Guardian Doctrine, which reduces their Guardian ability cooldown by 5 seconds. You can no longer get that doctrine, but it's still in the game and can be used.
Maybe you didn't finished all S6 missions Chris but at the end you would get a purple Doctrine for Liaos that grant them the same speed boost but permanently. I have it and I can confirm it still works nowadays, this purple doc also grant a little defensive buff against range attacks so its definitely an important doc to have with them 😄
So what can we expect for these new outriders? I think i almost enjoy them more as granpas at the moment. (ofcourse while being mostly ranged and ranged sucks)
Nah, same Pike build I had in my Pike guide video. Full armor Pike. I think I did change one of the minor 1 slot runes from 2 & 2 attribute boost to the 7 attibute as that's better overall. Can't remember the name off the top of my head but I think it changed 2 str & 2 constitution -> 7 agility. But besides a minor 1 slot rune change, it's the same build.
It was only available in season 8 when the Greyhairs released. I don't like the game design choice either. There might be a way to get it now but I'm not sure, hopefully someone else can answer.
@@monkey.dluffy5910 Certain things were changed in the game to 'appeal to western audiences'; is the best way I can answer that question. If I try to answer 'why' that decision was made, this could be a very long conversation. But simply put, in the version of the game I have access to, there are no golden doctrines.
This game is unbalanced, They gave so many buffs to grey hair that they can beat Gold tier units easily: Royal Janissaries, Shieldmaiden, Iron Repears, and 4 stars don't even stand a chance against them. I'm hating the game for now.
Eh, if you scatter the Greyhair formation, they lose almost all of their effectiveness. They have weaknesses, but if you run right into them, they will shred a lot of units. I think they are a balanced unit. They are flexible, but are not as specialized as other units in an dedicated role. They don't block as well as shields, and have a short reach. A nice standalone unit, but aren't very noticeable in larger groups (They don't death ball very well)
you just need to git gud. Those greyhairs get destroyed while outside of formation or attacked in the back by a hero. I think they are kinda like stalwarts where as soon as people find out how weak greyhairs are from the back they will play around their tiny formation(try out stalwarts as a stationary defense and be prepared to lose your whole unit with 0 kills to enemy knockbacks).
@@klaasvaak2575 Stalwarts actually have a debuff from back attacks and cant turn around to attack the ennemy where it face them. Greyhair can turn around the ennemy that attack them (even though they don't benefit from front shields) and dont have this back debuff when they are easily as tanky as Stalwarts because of their health regeneration while attacking so yeah as a wall right now Greyhair > Stalwarts everyday
@@klaasvaak2575 I would take Stalwarts over Greyhair only if I knew we needed to body block ennemies or to create a death ball. In ANY other scenario the grandpas are better
did you just say that greyharis don't make very good shock troops?!!?!!? clearly you have not spent enough time with them lol. They are superior in every way nearly to any other shock troop with maybe exception being something like iron reapers which destroy my greyhairs the few times i had a clash. anyway, unpausing video now to watch the rest, maybe there is something to your madness?

This behind-the-back blind camera angle technique is pretty wild. And you manage to execute it while getting double-teamed in a corner. I'm impressed.
Well done, and much appreciated! With Madao's a very strong unit season and very enjoyable.
COME BACK IRONCLAD
Maybe one day my friend
Shame you don't do CB content anymore, these vids such as the unit guides are soo good!
So I am that maul. Thanks lol went back to long sword because I suck at it

Just got into the game, now I gotta get them out. Also love how you used charge of the light brigade
Thanks my friend, only a few get the reference 😄
Another informative content, thanks.

also i think u can still get the greyhair doctrine one from a special quest that appears after u unlock them
hope you stream more
Charge of the light brigade? I'm literally dying 🤣🤣 lord help me.

For me top still better cause the cooldown of Last Stand is reduced by 6sec which is not to neglect considering this is proly their best ability
It's not how %dmg reduction works, bottom gives you 83, something %dmg reduction
Soooo 3% vs +15% ground dmg

Amazing video, I would recommend lowering the volume in the right moments, in some parts the sound was a bit too loud in my opinion.
Glad you liked it! And thanks for the feedback, I'll continue on improving audio balance 😄

@@IroncladLion will there be a chances getting it from the daily excavate?
Well so grey hair is the strongest unit it seems like he can take on anything if can own valkyrie
how do you take units into the training yaard
I believe you talk to the Master at Arms. The symbol is the sword & circle. Unless they changed it recently, I believe that's who you talk to.
so i cant get the grey hair doctrine 1 anymore?
That's correct... I'm so sorry, I wish I had the power to change it 😅
So if I didn't get the health doctrine in season 8 I'll never get it...great
Indeed, I've told the devs repeatedly that season exclusive doctrines are bad game design, but they seem stuck in their ways
i can confirm, well in longting EU6. i only unlocked them a few days ago, and i still got special quest, and got my doctrine for the 600 hp.

There are no golden doctrines in the western countries. The highest we get are purple doctrines.
