I was happy that Panthor lacked the flocking, it totally made sense for that type of high articulated figure. Also i love the helmet, very nice addition.
Glad you liked. Still one of my favorite accessories!
The Classics-Panthor has been the best Panthor ever released. I love him. And I also thought, the helmet is a good idea.
Glad you liked it. It makes me smile every time I see it.
Bruh that helmet! Nice!
Cringer/Battle Cat seemed like He-Man's partner. Panthor seemed like Skeletors beloved pet, the only member of his crew he never questioned if he was loyal. Skeletor tolerated or respected his henchmen or allies, he actually cared about Panthor.
It is true!
Great idea for the helmet. As a kid I questioned the reason too. The ram horns were a perfect fit. Definitely display mine with the horns.
One of my favorite Classics upgrades!
When it came to Battle Cat or Panthor, my favourite has always been Panthor, paws down!
Paws down. Ha!
I like how patient and friendly you are to all the pedantic comments.
I am most grateful for all the comments!
I thought the helmet was strange at first, but I really appreciate it because it helps Panthor's design stand out from that of Battle Cat's. And it seems to be really really popular because it appears on the poster for Revalations and fans have been 3D printing their own Panthor helmets for the origins line
Yeah it does grow on you
"Cat on Cat Action
" and "Knock The Flock Off" for the win!
Someone had to say it
Wooooo thanks so much for the helmet. And such a great idea to make it look like skeletor havoc staff. I’m happy it wasn’t flocked.
Thanks! I was quite proud of it
My vintage Panthor came with the Skelly and Panthor Gift Set. And the artwork of that is awesome!
Wasn't it! I miss that type of art!
@@spectorcreative1872 The new art is so subpar in comparison!!
LOVE panthor. Excellent idea for the helmet. The 4H nailed it.
They sure did. I love them!
I'm a huge fan of your videos, I appreciate your first hand knowledge of having worked in that industry, comes across as authentic and entertaining. You deserve so much more subs. Great work fella.
Well thank you for the kind words, I am most grateful. Any shares of these videos is much appreciated too.
Great idea to helmet Panthor’s head! I really love the classics (as well as mondos version)
Awesome way to integrate the most characteristic elements of the havoc staff ….
I look forward to getting this Panthor in the aftermarket. I do wish he was flocked, but really enjoy the detail.
Love the Helmet! excellent job.
Thank you! I remain very proud of it!
When I saw Panthor with the helmet my initial reaction was why since vintage never had it. But it looks just so badass and awesome. Its perfect and really nicely done!
That was what we were going for. If you don't like it, don't use it. But if you do, well there it is!
I thought Evil-Lyn was Skeletor's favorite mount? Ok, that was wrong, but you started it with that cat on cat action comment. Another great video, Scott.
Oh man, that took it to another level! ;-P
@@spectorcreative1872 🤣
If I could buy any Classics toys, it would've been He-Man and Battle Cat and Skeletor and Panthor. That's The only 4 I have to have. Now I want all of them, but those are my must haves. And done day, that's how I'm going to start my collection. It's such a shame because before I found this channel, I had never heard of MOTU Classics. Then I find out I missed it all!! Such a tragedy. Again, great video.
Thanks for the kind post and comments! And those 4 are pretty awesome together. I have them on display permidently near my desk
9:40 looks gorgeous whit the helmet
I agree
I was in the camp that really wanted flocking on this, but give what you've explained about the flocking issues, it makes sense why you went the way you did.
I do wish in time we could have done non flocked. But hey, at least he still is awsome
I'm with Scott in that I always wanted Panthor to have cool headgear. I love that helmet, and actually prefer this non-flocked take on Panthor.
And hey if you don't like the helmet just disregard it!
Congratulations on being the brains behind the Panthor helmet- I love stories like this- it brings the whole creative process to life, and you make it very fun and interesting. I’m very familiar with flock and all of it’s pros and cons- I’m a miniature hobbyist, since back in the late 1980s, and I paint/build Warhammer models specifically. Flock is a huge and popular part of the hobby, specifically with making bases for individual models and also for dioramas. It’s heyday was the early 1990s, but it’s still a really popular method of basing. Thanks for all of your work, and such an enjoyable channel!
Glad the video shed some light. Always grateful for comments. Thank you.
I wish the Origins version also had the helmet. Some figures came with extra accessories that their vintage counterparts didn't have, so it would've been a nice extra.
Yeah I was sad this was lost in origins
Fun video! Thank you! I really liked the new helm for Panthor. As you say, it "evened things out" satisfactorily. I was initially disappointed by the lack of flocking on him, but looking at how many joints there were on the sculpt, Panthor could've ended up looking very mangy, very quickly.
After seeing the Tarzan and Big Jim cats next to the Vintage MOTU ones, I kind of want to see a Bengal tiger and black panther done from the MOTUC moulds, now . . . .
Mattel could do A LOT with that tool. Maybe they will
You’re a very interesting person to listen to Scott , I love this channel . I work in manufacturing management myself, only I deal with food not toys LOL… A lot of the similar and same logics can be applied too manufacturing in general . Masters of the universe classics is still one of my favourite toy lines of all time
Glad to hear it and thank you. Topic suggestions always welcome
The shield was such a great piece that I want to own it and I bought it from a fan.
If you want to keep your Panthor MOC (pratically a statue) the flockin' would be feasable... but if you want to enjoy all the articulations, flockin' is impossible. There's no doubt about it!
Yeah, flocking works so much better on slug figures
great channel
Thank you much! Please do feel free to share with anyone interested!
I never could understand why Panthor never had any Head Armor like Battle Cat did in the Vintage line, I had them both back then, & always wondered that.
And now Classics fixed that!
@@spectorcreative1872 I'm glad that you came up with that idea too, looks badass! It's too bad they didn't do that in the Vintage figure. What do you suggest the reasoning being for him not having Head Armor like Cat did? I'd like to hear your opinion on that, was it a tooling matter or what?
Such a fantastic beast (and I knew where to find him! 😜)
Was that a Harry Potter joke? ;-P
I am so happy that Mattel made a flocked version in the Mega Construx line - and that the line is finally easier to obtain in Europe (well, at least the new stuff).
Yeah!
Panthor is awesome. When I first saw him in the vintage line it was on a puzzle (of course I didn't know his name at that time). I thought it was so awesome that Skeletor finally had a Giant Cat of His own so that Battle Cat had someone to fight.
When Classics came around I hoped You would not flock Panthor, because I thought it would just attract dust when he was on display. I thought Panthor's helmet was awesome, but as I also love the vintage look. I display Panthor without his helmet when he is with Keldor and with his helmet when he is with Skeletor.
Well your hope was rewarded! No flock for you!
Panthor helmet looks great.
Glad you liked. It still makes me smile.
I wish mattel would would do what you did with the Classics line. I wish they’d give little bits and pieces from the 200x series with these new origins toys and I wish the new Panthor had that awesome helmet you gave him.
They still might!
Hi Scott! We have a YT channel here in Brazil. I'm a big Motu fan and would like a lot to have you in a small interview there, recorded by Skype. Think about it and, if the answer is yes, we will make it happen. Congratulations for your work in MOTUC and here in the UA-cam! Regards, Alessandro.
I am more than happy to do a SKYPE interview. You can contact me through Spectorcreative.com
Panthor always was a cool figure, the MOTUC version resulted great, too. By the way, I remember that my grandma used to have a figure like this but flocked as a tiger. I remember that underneath it was grey soft plastic. Never knew were she got it.
Interesting! I had not heard of that. Maybe images will show up
Love you, Love the videos. But Please more videos on POP figures and secrets. Please!!!
You got it!
That helmet really kicks it up a notch and I love it. Since Cringor becomes Battle Cat does that mean that Panthor would become Havoc Cat?
Sure, why not!
Fun fact: real life big cats have round pupils.
Some of these designs made me think that perhaps not all have noticed this.
I miss Richard Corbin, Frank Frazetta, Basil Gogos, and Moebius.
They were the classic pulp cover icons of 70's art.
They would create the Sci-Fi / Fantasy Magazine:" Heavy Metal"!
The artwork is clearly influenced by their art.
Oh 100%!
I display Them as art in my office!
And you should!
Such an awesome beast and I gotta be honest, I would have totally loved to have gotten him flocked, but I completely understand why it didn't happen. At least we got a great version of him and not to mention a really cool helmet 😎👍
And so glad we did get to him! An essential part of any complete collection
@@spectorcreative1872for sure! Hats off to the horsemen. Another one out of the park!
Does flocking impact the cost of production? I ask because the flocked variant of Panthor in Origins is double the price of the standard release.
Not by that much. It does cost more, but considering the cost saving on deco, it evens out.
Did you ever get into the four horsemen's original line Mythic legions? They got some really cool looking Mounts on pre order currently, a Giant moose and a big imposing black horse of doom
Oh that line is amazing. I love the Eagle people the most I think
If my dog had purple fur she’d make a great Panthor!
But would she like that?
Has anyone outfitted the vintage toy with the modern horn armor mask?
I doesn't fit. Too big
As a kid, I also thought Panthor deserved a helmet, so thanks for the additional accessory. I like that it's based on the Havoc Staff, because it matches Skeletor's weapon.
Glad to hear I wasn't the only one!
On the way to 10K! 🎊🎉🎂
So excited! Thanks for all the support!
@@spectorcreative1872 My pleasure!
What’s term for “not articulated” figure that you mentioned?
Slug?
@@edpistemic yes thank you
A slug figure. Like a riffle slug, not the animal.
Great video! Is the Lion King tribute image from a T shirt?
You know I am not sure. I think it is just art.
I've been collecting the new Super 7 Thundercats line, which originated at Mattel as sort of a spin-off of MOTU Classics. It seems like Super 7 really got free reign to use Mattel's MOTU assets when they took over both MOTU and Thundercats, and one of the big things I've been wondering is if they would have access to the existing tooling for Classics Battle Cat and Panthor. The Thundercats TV show had a popular recurring "giant sabretooth cat" character, Snowmeow, the mount/companion of their ally Snowman. Super 7 could do a really killer Snowmeow figure for their Thundercats line if they still have access to Mattel's tools, but since Mattel sort of stole back MOTU, I don't know where that relationship stands. Any idea if that option could still be on the table? They recently announced a Snowman figure and he needs his buddy!
I was actually a huge part of getting the T-Cats line set up at Mattel. I worked on the first year's product but left before it went into production. Because Mattel owned all the MOTU Classics tooling it was available for any line, like how the Zoar bird was used in the DCUC line a few times.
@@spectorcreative1872 First, as a Thundercats fan, you have my thanks for your part in making those toys happen! My question was more about the nebulous relationship between Mattel and Super 7... whether Super 7 still retains any access to that Mattel tooling today since they took over the license, or if that door is shut and they would need to pony up for their own new tools if Super 7 wanted to do a giant tiger. I'm curious about the overall deal between the two companies, don't know if you have any insider knowledge there.
Do you know if a tabletop role playing game has been made for Motu?
I actually worked on multiple concepts for this category. But none ever made it to market.
Random question - how are different companies sometimes able to make figures on the same intellectual property, and in the same scale, simultaneously? For example, MAFEX & SH Figuarts both make 6 inch MCU figures & Star Wars movie figures
See this video and share with everyone you know!
ua-cam.com/video/h3gBIGYSQy8/v-deo.html
Wait, was Skeletor feeding Panther a Joker fish at the end? Also, where the heck do you get a Joker fish? Custom?
The Joker fish came with the Wave 9 DCUC Joker figure
I thought it was a shame Classics Panthor wasn't flocked. As most of his sculpt is the same as Battle Cats, I can enjoy the sculpt on that figure. So the sculpt being covered by the flocking on Panthor really wouldn't have been an issue. I love the helmet he came with.
We would have loved to get to a flocked version in time. Alas
This MOTUC Figure is actually my Holy Grail. I have the Battle Cat, but I simply can't justify buying this at its current secondary market value. My Filmation Skeletor will get to ride the MOTU Origins Panthor for sure. But my MOTUC Skeletor is SOL 😥
Sad Skeletor!
We need a flocked Battle Cat. Why not? It was a mistake to not flock both initially.
Mattel make it happen!
*5:31* Chokes on my chocolate cornflake cake! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I must ask, *8:04* what the flock are you talking about? 😂😂😂
I must admit I love flocked or non flocked (bare) figures.
Flock flock flock of seagulls.
I recall the flocking on the Panthors I saw back in the day had a mixed results, but I still liked that they did it. It's really interesting to hear about this sort of production issues and why it's not used more often.
Just curious what your feelings of the current Origins series is. Obviously not as much of an investment as say Classics was/is, but for the price point I can't complain about what we're getting.
TBH all the flocked toys I had as a kid were absolute magnets for dust, grime etc. (and I was a kid who took obsessive care of my toys.)
@@user-do2ev2hr7h And just imagine the issues that all the various slime based toys created for these guys back in the day
@@Canoby I don't have to imagine, I had toys that spent years covered in dried slime residue that could never be completely removed. IIRC the vintage MOTU Slime Pit even came with instructions not to use it with flocked or furry figures.
Here is a video with my thoughts on origins! ua-cam.com/video/HF5KO1C2TMA/v-deo.html
@@spectorcreative1872 Thanks!
When my Classics Panthor arrived in the mail, there was no helmet included. :(
I tried to make peace with it, noting that the original did not have it.
Was it in package? If it was bought from Matty you should have requested a replacement!
@@spectorcreative1872 To be honest... buying MOTUC off of Matty Collector's website was very stressful for me. It was like Beat the Clock trying to get an item. After getting in on time and getting my Panthor, I felt like I'd barely gotten out of Vietnam with my life and I should just live with it. I assumed that the return process would also be a mess.
(As an aside, I had to return an item to Hasbro Pulse recently and it actually was a real nightmare and I wish I hadn't.)
cat on cat action, o scott. ur great pal
I do try.
If you are leaving the toy in packaging flocking is fine, but if you are going to pose it or even leave on a shelf as flock is a dust magnet and rubs off.
And that is why we don't flock articulated toys
@@spectorcreative1872 and for that I am very grateful!
Skeletor’s most loyal friend. What was Panthers fate, sine he never appeared during New Adventures?
If I recall he had a battle to the death with Battle Cat in one of the bios but my memory is a little fuzzy
#fun
Indeed
Good video but u should have started by singing, His name was Paaanthor.....Panthor the kitty....😀
That is really funny! Kiki would be jealous
@@spectorcreative1872 LOL yep
He would have been cool flocked but it would create quite a mess long term, especially with the removable helmet, which I quite like.
The long term plan was to do a flocked version but alas...
Mythic legions did a humanoid panthor character
Yup. They did that with a bunch of MOTU concepts. Very cool.
A fan made bipedal Panthor...
I’m interested but I’ve used the internet long enough to know not googling that
Well the internet is really for one thing
i see he man riding battle cat but seeing skeletor ride panthor i dont know why but i dont see it
Well the trick is to get the figures, set them up and then look at them with both eyes
@@spectorcreative1872 now thats comedy
Yeah ... See, I've always wondered why both of the Filmation and MYP shows did persist to under-equip him whereas his arc enemy wasn't. Is the specie he belongs to supposed to be kinda superior strengh wise or something? In conclusion, the helmet was some pertinent addition to the figure while inspiring an emblematic character from the Berserk anime series : Nosferatu Zodd ! Maybe you know him aleady ? ibb.co/ZHXtTzp OnlyOneSkeletor
Now they are evenly matched!
Why is Skeletor trying to feed Panthor a (poisonous) Joker Fish?
Because Panthor is hungry.
The Horde should of had their own cat. Also King Hsss should of had his own cat also.
Horde: Trigon, a tiger shaped cyborg cat.
Snake Men: Poisona: Half big cat with a serpent head and poison bite.
You get a cat, and you get a cat!
@@spectorcreative1872 Pretty much yes. Let's use them bucks to save us some cash (lol). Othoe Poisana would need some partial retooling to make his or her snake head.
For some reason in this video is configured as you were spoeaking portuguese... so the subtitles have not sense.
I only speak English, French and Ancient Egyptian. No seriously.
If you would have flocked, people would have bitched about it... You didn’t flock and people still bitched about it... In the end we got a Panthor! (WIN) Yay!!!
It really was a no win situation!
I was always in favor of non-flocked on Classics Panther myself. There are plenty of other furry MOTU characters that flocking was never a consideration for and treating fur differently for some would have broken the style consistency. It’s like having a mix of plastic and soft goods capes within the same line - it’s distracting and just looks weird. Moss Man being flocked still worked for me since I didn’t view that as ‘fur’ as such, but even there I would have been happy with just plastic. And I’m always in favor of things like Panthor’s helmet - it helps drive the brand forward and it’s optional if you don’t like it!
Ah driving the brand forward... one of my personal favorite things to do.
what would happen if he eat the joker fish
He would smile forever
The MOTUC Panthor figure is a masterpiece. I love him so much more than Battle Cat. The purple coloration and the unique head-sculpt...yeah.
Zero complaints about this one.
I was happy he wasn't flocked so I didn't have to deal with bald patches due to the articulation.
so glad. I really like how he came out as well.
Did faker ever get a robo kitty?
Crimson pelt, dark blue eyes with hot pink pupils with bright yellow green teeth, violet armor saddle?
Dark green stripes
Robo- scorpion tail substitute with laser canon swap out for blade or cudgel/mace/flail?... Ok im done
Yes but he broke it
Scott Scott Scott........the ONLY TRUE Panthor.........is FLOCKED Panthor. The helmet is cool and a great idea I must say.............but a non flocked Panthor isn't Panthor. How come the WalMart exclusive Origins
Panthor managed to be flocked with articulation and the classics failed? Why, they even flocked the box........
Just kidding around not a real criticism but I do love vintage flocked Panthor.
I did really want to get to a flocked one. It was the articulation that made it hard
@@spectorcreative1872 it does beg the question, how does the upcoming WalMart exclusive origins Panthor get flocked? Granted the origins doesn't have the articulation of your origins cat, but it isn't static like the vintage cat.
Smh Not "their horses" Their pets, trusty companions or steeds
Okay, point taken
