i would suggest looking into kdeconnect. it lets you send files to your phone, you can set terminal shortcuts, it even lets you control your cursor from your phone (i dont know if anybody would actually need this feature but it's cool anyways). if you're on android, it would show your phone notifications (i sadly use an iphone so i don't know how well that works). anyways its a good app
It'd be GSConnect (kdeconnect for gnome) for him. Kde connect is amazing even on windows it's 1000x better than whatever Microshit has, and that is one of the (many) reasons I use kde/Linux not windows.
@@SuperTort0ise well he can still use kde connect on a gnome desktop it will just look a bit out of place. I don't even know if the apps are different though
Cool, some programs I really like are Flatseal(manages permissions) GOverlay/mangohud(fps counter for games) Haruna(mpv frontend) Easy Effects(Equalizer/audio effects) Timeshift (btrfs snap shot/system backups) I personally don't like Manjaro (I use EndeavorOS) and I think it has an updater, but if you ever update with the terminal just remember to always do [pacman -Syu] and not [ -Sy] don't ask why it's just how arch (btw) works.
@@murilex8 EndeavorOS if you want to customize it like arch. Garuda if you want a "just works" gaming setup. If you are just starting I think both let you set partitions: 300MiB /boot/efi 'fat32' 30+GiB / 'btrfs' 10+GiB /home 'ext4 or btrfs' I have 70GiB for root, if you plan on using flatpaks I'd recommend at least 60GiB because they can take a lotta space, of course you don't have to install system wide (in /) but most people don't have multiple people using their PC. For me Garuda has too many packages that I don't need, like I use Easy Effects(EQ) Garuda comes with JamesDSP, I use Timeshift(btrfs backups) it comes with snapper. Not that those are bad I just prefer different programs, so it doesn't make sense to uninstall a bunch of stuff when I can just use EndeavorOS.
I'd also suggest OnlyOffice as an alternative Office suite for Linux. It has better compatibility with MS Office and integrates really well with Office workflow, being so similar to MS Office (most of the buttons are where you expect them to be if you're used to MS Office). Libre Office is nice, but it doesn't integrate well with MS Office, most of the times you'll have formatting issues when you open a document from MS Office to Libre Office, OnlyOffice sorts these formatting problems way better and the transition is almost seamless. That being said, it only offers alternatives for Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Also, since I saw you're on GNOME, since GNOME versione 43 iirc, you can just press CTRL+Shift+Alt+R to take a screenshot or to record a video snippet of your screen, it's really quick and integrated in the GNOME Shell, so you don't have to install an extra program/extension.
Rhythmbox is awesome !!! It has all the features I would ever need and implements GTK themes better than other programs like it. Even a nice, simple EQ. It desperately needs an update to GTK4 (libadwaita) because the newer GNOME Music app sucks. Right now there's no up-to-date music library app in GNOME. I wish I had time to learn to code so I could port it.
Another great app I know is called Obsidian, It's like libreoffice, but it uses markdown and is better! OBS is great for recording yourself doing work, it's like you got somebody watching you, and that keeps you motivated! Also TrueCrypt/VeraCrypt/ZuluCrypt are great encryption tools, for when you don't want the Government spying on you!

Kde Connect is absolutely phenomenal. A total game changer, honestly

This channel is such a discovery. I am loving your content, keep it up!
Thank you.
For music player, my favorite is Lollypop
Nice video! I just saw your previous video in my recommended. Subscribed :D
Awesome, thank you!
gparted is my favorite... oh yes double commander also!
I use that on Windows too.

Thoughts on endeavoros or garuda for a beginner and into arch linux?

Great List! I would also recommend people try using Thunderbird for email, it is amazing. You can even set it up to digitally sign and encrypt emails.

Nice.
What case does your gaming pc use? Looks almost just like mine!
I'm not sure but I did see Linus Tech Tips using it once on one of his builds. I know it's a lower end case though.

Why use flameshot instead of gnome's default screenshot program?
What is Gnome's default program?

What about "Lollypop" as an alternative?
And one of them clearly isn't OBS. As demonstrated.
