      Do you mean a video about the Properties of Covalent Compounds like the one called "Properties of Ionic Compounds"?

      The 1. & 2. presented are correct. Be careful with KE. The video about it incorrectly. Particles can have a low or high KE value. KE is just a value for particle mass and velocity. KE is not the cause of motion. KE is a description or value of mass and velocity. Not a magic energy that cause motion.

    Everything I read says, things move because they have kinetic energy. In reality these things only have mass and velocity. The movement of particles is the kinetic energy. Kinetic energy just quantifies the motion and mass of the particles involved. Again, the movement of particles is the only thing that exists. Particles that move faster just have a higher velocity. Particles that move slower just have a lower velocity. The particles don't have a magic energy substance called kinetic energy that makes them move. The particles are only in motion. This motion is quantified or describes as KE, which only represents "mass x velocity^2."
    Particles don't move because they have kinetic energy. Saying "They are moving slowly because they only have a little bit of kinetic energy" is wrong. Rather, "They are moving slowly so the value of their KE is low" would be saying it correctly. Can't we get past the language used before the existence of atoms was proven. I think getting past the idea of "having some magic energy" as a cause is the point of Kinetic Molecular Theory. If you "dumb" something down, don't do it in a way that is the opposite of the main point. There is a value that quantifies the mass and velocity of particles or billiard balls that we call kinetic energy.

    How about the gas or air inside a balloon? Does it or does it not take up any space?

    • @ArtexSniper
      @ArtexSniper 6 років тому

      ALL REAL gases take up space. However he's not talking about real gases. He's talking about "ideal gases" which is theoretical gases that is much easier to learn. And since the real gases are very complicated ideal gas is the way to start off with. And ideal gases does not take up space. :)

    Error Error Error. Too bad the liquid model is wrong. Liquids have very little space between the particles. The particles stick together and slide past each others. In other words flow.

    • @TheScienceClassroom
      @TheScienceClassroom  2 роки тому

      I'll have to respectfully disagree with you. I'll admit I'm not the best animator. But I think my animation of the liquid fits what you are describing. Maybe you were referring to the animation for the gas?
      I think it's important to remember that models are not exact representations of reality, they are models. All models are erroneous in some way. But it is good practice to critique models when teaching students to develop them and use them. It seems that you are exercising that skill well by trying to find limitations of the model here.
      When using a model with your students, you should always ask, what is good about this model and what is not as good about this model. When using the animation in this video, you might suggest that although the liquid particles are moving more than the solid particles; you'd like to see the liquid particles even closer together than this animation software allowed.
      Hope that helps!
