I was a cadet RSM. and pace stick drill is very hard. Every minor movement has to be on point for it to be smooth. I used to only be able to do around 10 paces smoothly but then I'd fall out of wack. GOod on you guys
These guys did an excellent job! Pace sticking drill is harder than most rifle drill, since it requires intricate movements while in motion. These police officers really nailed it. Unfortunately, they don't use pace sticks in the American military, so our service members never get to experience the British and Commonwealth experience of an RSM and his pace stick on the drill field! They are such a crucial part of drill in the UK that during the trooping of the colors for HM the Queen's birthday, a soldier is tasked with retrieving the RSM's pace stick, so that he can then draw his sword. When that drill portion is completed, he sheathes his sword and his pace stick is returned to him. Each typical pace stick can cost up to $200, depending on their color, which varies by Regiment. The essence of their use is to ensure troops all march with a consistent distance, or "pace" (e.g. 30") when marching. They are also used in the Guards regiments to pace off the distances between soldiers standing sentinel duty along various parade routes (e.g. 9 paces apart). By using their pace sticks, they achieve a much more uniform distribution of sentinels across great distances, and some of those routes can require hundreds of those sentinels. Again, great job Bahrain! 🇧🇭 🇬🇧
Bahrain Police Team has won the Overseas Pace sticking Competition 2014 held on 26 june 2014 at RMAS. Bahrain police Team won the overseas competition for the 5th time ( 3 times in a row ).

I learned to use the pace stick/drill as a young cadet. We only used it to measure steps between ranks in open order march and when we first set the gate/pace of the troops marching. Cool to see them marching in a group with it. Pace stick still used in Canadian Military. More to hold under your arm. I don't recall seeing a Sgt Major using it to march in open position anymore.
N They’re very good, I was did the Adv Drill instr cse in 2001 and wasn’t great at pace sticking, but not bad. I also did public duties in London in 2007. The hardest thing is quick March as it really feels weird and unnatural. They are very good and well done.

If only useful things are not "dumb", then feel free to throw out most things which make life bearable. Apart from that, Roman legions used this method to measure marching distances, after a certain number of paces they would leave a stone marker. Nowadays, it's tradition. Which is neither useless nor a "dumbest fucking thing", as you being an Irishman should know more than anyone else.
Nowisthetime, what you witnessed came directly from the British Empire. Have a look at a globe of the World and locate the tiny United Kingdom. Next look at the rest of the world and try to realise that the empire you appear to deride ruled almost half of this world. You were created and owe your liberty the that once mighty empire. Now, go lie down on railway lines somewhere and go to sleep.
there are a lot of over the top movements. stomping the feet overly swinging the arms, exageratting the leg extension while marching. shit im glad the US military doesnt do this, marching felt more natural. if i had to learn how to march anywhere near like this it would feel like i was forcing my body to move in a way it wasnt meant to.

Thank You ... Bahrain Police Team has won the competition in june 2017 for the seventh time
US army drill still looks good in my opinion, and there's no need for them to follow or copied the british drill.

For civilian bystanders all of these "rituals" are very hard to understand, and I cannot blame them for this. I'm glad I got the idea...

Are these supposed to be grown men?
Unlike you, yes.
I always thought The Fish Slapping Dance was funny, but this is freaking hilarious. Did all of these fools lose a football wager, or what?
Impressive. It is a pity however that they represent a repressive monarchy.
Terry Ilias what have YOU Done?
