Girl you sound like me. I’m still in school to be an RN and I don’t want to really work in a hospital. I plan to he a Psych RN. I have noticed no one in my class wants to do Psych RN but people wouldn’t mind being a Psych NP lol

Please get PSYCH RN experience first and or any adjunct PSYCH experience. Psych is NOT for BOOK SMAR= Alot of psych provider work is not taught in school but by actual hands first psych work experience.

Interesting that you mentioned and recommend going to college in Puerto Rico. I actually have never heard anyone mention college in Puerto Rico before. But what I hear is it is very beautiful down there. I bet it would be a fantastic experience. Especially for a young person / college student. Very cool. Very cool. You did a good job with this one. Hello Noreen. Currently I’m a CNA in the hospital on the Telemetry floor. We also have a behavioral health facility, which I’m there as well. I’m in my BSN program and will pursue a Psych RN opportunity at the hospital, Then will continue onto MSN-PMHNP.

And i initially thought i wanted to be a crna but after just a few months working in the hospital, i really don't like the environment either. I pick up shifts at nursing home and jail and I find that i actually prefer working outside the hospital. I might consider psych np in the future something i never considered before
Please get 3-5 psych experience first. Psych is a CALLING and is very difficult if its not your calling. Alot of people are out here looking at the mone= Never do anythiing in a helping profession for money0 you will end up getting sued.
Hi, this is going to sound unusual, but do you think it's possible to get a Psych NP, but then work in a functional/holistic manner? I have done crisis work in mental health, but I'm not a fan of labeling & pushing pills. I'd actually like to help people taper off meds like SSRI's & benzos. I want to either work in a functional practice, but really want my own practice, so I can work remotely. I'm also 46 and have some chronic/health issues, so I'm nervous about having to work in a hospital during school. I do not want to get any vaccines, but understand I would probably get the flu one.
Absolutely. I agree with you not being crazy about pushing pills. I think you can definitely do it where you work with your patients to get them off medication. My preceptor encourages patients to do other things like exercise, therapy, and learning coping mechanisms. She tells them medication is not a cure but a temporary aid. I think having your own practice would be great in that aspect. But of course it’d take time. Clinical can be in a clinic. Doesn’t have to be in a hospital. Unless you mean working to have income during school.
Hi! I graduate Wilkes in 4 weeks🎉 I was also ICU. I imagine you didn’t have psych RN experience from what you said? I don’t, and I would love to know if you have any tips for this, specially, in the interview process
Hey, no psych experience. And neither did my preceptor, she was icu too. She said it was fine as long as you know your diagnosis and meds. For interview I don’t know much but I know you’re first job isn’t going to be ideal and they usually want experience which no one has coming out of school smh lol I’ll get more information and let you knew what I find

Does your friends that did the PR program have a UA-cam channel? I would love to learn more and ask questions. I love the idea of working from home completely too.

I was considering working at a jail but I’m scared! lol and at least we have options to advance our career 😅

WHY? If you are looking at dollar signs= go into CRNA. Psych iS NOT for people trying to make money- you will get sued. PSYCH IS A CALLING

You just need to be an NP and work with a collaborating provider depending on the state you’re in.
