I'm travelling around Greece A LOT (as a hobby), and you are absolutely right: July and August are the hottest months of our Greek Summer, and a "nightmare" when it comes to visiting the islands and coastal areas because people from all around the world come visiting and everything, from sidewalks to motorways are so crowded that it requires extra caution and tons of patience. What I like to do is visit the coastal areas and the islands in late May, June, early July and September, and then drive around in the mainland (Konitsa, Metsovo, Kastoria, Florina, Kalabaka, etc) during the rest of July and August. Also, if you stick close to the mountain areas, the air there is much cooler and refreshing (the smell of blooming pine trees is indescribable), the food is quite tasty, especially the fruits and vegetables that are locally sourced, super fresh and super tasty because they're at their peak ripeness/season, and the buildings and streets look fantastic. I have a sixth tip: visit the inland. It's gorgeous, much less crowded, cheaper, more authentic (many islands have turned into a Disneyland theme park kind of thing) and, did I mention it's gorgeous. Especially the more remote areas. For those remote areas you might want to rent a car to get around so you can get to the small villages without waiting for a bus for half a day. Dont book your room ahead, just see where you like it and find a place there. Walk into a tavern and ask. Almost everyone has a cousin, aunt or mother with a B&B (or restaurant of course ;-) ) (Don't get tempted to rent a moped, they're usually actually light motorcycles so you would need a motorcycle drivers license for them. But they dont tell you that. So you are driving without a license then without knowing, and in case of an accident you are in deep deep legal and financial trouble).

Nice video About Tip 1, Greece has so many islands but the toursits know only 3-4 with result overcrowded and super expensive islands. Believe me there are other islands more beautiful than the 3-4 popular islands and less expensive. Before you decide to visit the Greek islands dedicate 1-2 hours and search for info about them. There are party islands, family islands, couple islands, lonely islands.. The best months for less crowded places and very good prices are May. June and September. Don't forget that Greece is a Meditteranean country and it is hot. The summer starts from April over here until late October. On August you pay everything double.. rooms, food, tickets etc
Love this! Always great to get a local perspective. I will never stop repeating-May, June (beginning of it) and September are the best months to visit. We are at the end of June right now and as the temperatures start to go up so are the prices🤷♀️🤣
@N D the top touristic islands are Crete Rhodes Corfu Kos Thira (Santorini) Kos Mykonos Zakynthos For a couple i would recommend Crete, Corfu, Rhodes, Skiathos, Hydra, Milos. Spetses
@@stephaniebreton3943 What are you looking for on your vaccations? busy islands or chill islands? Actually how do you imagine yourself? walking on a big beach with few people, reading a book listening to the waves or parties on the beach? From Athens Airport you can take the Metro (subway), it is clean, cheap and fast [but you should always look on your belongings, always your eyes on your bags. Do not keep your bag (with you wallet, cellphone) on your back, always infront of you]. Taxis over charge you from Airport. The metro can take you to Athens centre or to Pireus port and from there you can catch a ferry for every Aegean island you wish. If you pick a distant island (needs more than 8 hours) it is better to book a bed on the ferry. Ferry's campines are cheap, clean and very comfortable. For the Ionian islands you will need a flight from Athens Airport. Actually if you don't want ferries you can also fly from Athens Airport to almost every touristic Aegean island. I personally prefer the ferry because it makes you realize that you are on vaccations. i apologize in advance for my English. I am trying to improve my English skills. ** the Greek islands are the Ionian islands (Ionian sea-western Greece) and the Aegean islands (Aegean sea-Eastern Greece).

Of course, it is not profitable for many restaurants to be paid by card, because their bank keeps a commission and unfortunately it is big, but that does not mean that it is not illegal! Maybe that's why some people avoided saying that they accept a card, but this is illegal! It's is not recommended to drink the water in Santorini but elsewhere is okay as far as I know. The Greeks just don't drink water like we do. We drink ALOT of water. I'm talking a gallon a day, so we visited the grocery and bought 6L of water on each island we visited.
You're totally right. Mediterranean climate today provides countries overlooking its basin a Summer lasting almost six months, so don't rush into coming only in July or August. I would trade some more rainy or fresh days for a less crowdy holiday!
My experience with Greek summer is that it ends in late August and starts in April. Greece is a very mountainous country and thus in much of the mainland the climate differs from the rest of the Mediterranean.

Hi very helpful thanks ! Me and my girlfriend are planning to visit greek islands for the first time in June 2023 for 2 weeks. What would be your top 3 Islands to visit ? thx
Oh, that's a tough one because it depends on what you like (nature, partying, history, etc.) Every island is so different. Even my preference change, for example I go to Mykonos every year. But this year I wanted something more relaxing, so I chose Paros, Naxos and Milos.

I'm hoping for a February trip and have never done anything like this at all. I don't even know where to begin. I have been watching your videos for help but I am so lost. Can you PLEASE help me?????? Thank you.
Greece is not only MYKONOS AND SANTORINI! This incredible country has enough islands to go anytime and relax without crowds. So this tip is not that useful. There exist better islands that these two 💖
It depends. If you are on the island, I would say a car. If you are going to Athens, I would definitely recommend NOT to get a car and use metro instead.
Don’t take taxi. Way too expensive. Take the bus if you are going to places in the mainland. If you stay in Athens, take the metro. If you go to the islands, rent a moped. Remember one thing. Greece is not only Mykonos and Santorini. Greece got many islands that are also beautiful. If you happen to travel northern Greece, visit the Chalkidiki peninsula. It’s a gem that most visitors and tourists never heard. Just a magnificent place to visit. I hope you have a good time when you go there.
I am so tired of people saying "July and August are so hot avoid bla bla bla" my family used to say that in August when I lived in the city to make me stay with them. "It's so hot, there is nobody there." That js exactly the point, having the space to yourself. Also traveling to extra hot countries is made easier by the local architecture, if it's old its designed to protect you from the heat and if it's modern it usually has a fan or airco. The whole purpose of going to these extra hot countries is to go in to the water. You want to go in and also be able to dry when you come out. Many parts of Asia and the US are just as hot but people act like it will br a death sentence if you travel. If you want to go sight seeing in the open, then yeah, not july and August but it just requires some thinking ahead. Also a recommendation for Greece is really to get a car. You can get a cab or a shuttle from the airport but once you get in to the town you really need a car, you don't need to be a confident driver in these small towns. After my third time in Greece I really regretted not using a car. My other tip would be to stay if you can in a place with a washing machine. It allows you to pack less and it dries very very quickly
Nice video Anastasia! As a Greek allow me to give you one more tip. Never show the number 5 by using your palm and open fingers on the Greeks face. We call it "moutza" and it's a rude gesture for us (something similar to the middle finger gesture). Well, nothing is going to happen if you do it because we know that tourists have no idea, but still... it's just a tip for foreigners. 😀😀
There's upwards of 6,000 counting every little piece of land sticking out, and a bit over 85 of them if we're talking ports / airports etc. Having visited just below 20 of them myself, my faves are the green Northern Sporades, a group of 4 islands, great to combine with Pelion, a mountainous collection of villages & beaches on the continental coastline just as nice as any island. Mani & Kythira is another great land / island combo - I'm in Mani right now! Milos has a ton of beaches, Crete is like a country in itself, Kythnos is a nearby to Athens hidden gem, and the list goes on! Do your research & see what best appropriates your idea of fun! Like the Sporades islands I mentioned: Skiathos, the smallest of the group in size, has an airport, 1 city, no villages, just amazing beaches yet is best known for it's partying, serving as an alternative little Mykonos. The island right next to it, Skopelos, is over double in size, yet much more chill - only thing in common would be the vegetation everywhere!
@@dial3ctric327 Thats exactly what Jorge is describing.I dont know what you re looking for but you wont regret spenting a couple of days there. If you really like it crowded you can always take a sea cab to Corfu.
Hi, I love your vlogs. Thanks for your work! What place do you think will be authentic and not very touristy in July? I was on Idra island and Simi. Was not so extreamly crowdly but now im looking something new
Northern Greek towns have a lot of the Greek culture the travel agencies tend to hide. Of course everyone starts off in Thessaloniki and then they go elsewhere. Macedonia and Thrace are some of the most interesting areas since this is where four different civilisations and cultures met (Turks, Greeks, Slavs and Vlachs). The architecture is so much different in comparison to classical style of Athenian sights and there's a lot of recent history to pull from. Western Macedonia is also very mountainous and it's covered in snow for much of the winter. Visit Kastoria, Florina, Edessa, Naoussa, Drama, Xanthi, Kavala and the surrounding villages to see something that most people don't know exists. If you want more of a classical feel, visit Greece south of Larissa and if you want to see the world's largest shooting range, visit rural Crete lol. P.S. these areas also have good food. Gyros actually has his home in Thessaloniki, which is in northern Greece.
Ooooh this is the toughest question in the world. My heart is split. The thing is Italy just offers so much diversity and contrast as far as the landscape, sights, food, etc. And it's not that Greece doesn't, it's just so different from Rome to Venice to Florence to Positano. If I had it my way, I would live May to October in Greece and October to May in Rome.
I think Greece is always a great idea! Just keep in mind if you visit the islands off season, most places will be closed. I was in Greece during the lockdown and still managed to have the most incredible time. So, it all depends on you and your preferences.
@@StayFabulousTL Thanks for the inputs, will definitely keep in mind about the islands, where most of the places are closed in the off season. Having said that if the trip is thoroughly planned you can still visit the islands.. right?

It's going to vary. You will have days when it's going to be chilly so you will need a warm jacket and then there will be days when you will wear a t-shirt. But in the evening, it will always cool down significantly. For locals its different, you will see a lot of them swimming already.

What is the weather like in December 👀
Snow in the mountains, temperatures lower than 10° (around 2°-5° in the mornings and even less than 0 in mountainous towns) and a lot of rain.
According to the law in Greece you can demand not to pay your bill if a business doesn't accept cards. It is mandatory to accept them. Usually they want cash for tax reasons.

What a great month you chose! Have the best time!
@@StayFabulousTL Second time to Greece, found out the first time by accident that September was the perfect time! 👍
Nice video
About Tip 1, Greece has so many islands but the toursits know only 3-4 with result overcrowded and super expensive islands.
@N D
the top touristic islands are
Crete
Rhodes
Corfu
Kos
Thira (Santorini)
Kos
Mykonos
Zakynthos
For a couple i would recommend Crete, Corfu, Rhodes, Skiathos, Hydra, Milos. Spetses
I am going in September I land in Athens how can I go island hopping ? What are the tips and recommendations. I’m going solo. I’m coming from NY
@@mariosathens1 thank you for replying back this is so helpful. I like a little bit of everything, I’m more of a sightseeing person, I enjoy exploring, walking, taking pictures. Is Athens safe for a solo traveler? What’s the Appropriate outfit for Sept in Athens?
I'm from Greece, and I'm telling you , number 1 is very important. Big true
Ι am Greek and thank you very much for your beautiful tips, they all true!!! But let me correct you on something. Anyone can pay for anything by card. Of course, it is not profitable for many restaurants to be paid by card, because their bank keeps a commission and unfortunately it is big, but that does not mean that it is not illegal! Maybe that's why some people avoided saying that they accept a card, but this is illegal!
Anyway, i hope you had a great time here and i wish you to come again and visit more places.🤗 Also Greece is very beautiful in winter♥️
Of course I am coming back! My grandma is Greek so Greece is forever in me. Will be exploring more islands this summer. Hi going to visit Greece in June for a week may I know the weather so that I can carry suitable clothes
It depends if you are going at the beginning of June or the end. But overall, it will feel like summer weather. If you are going at the beginning, bring a light cardigan or a scarf for the evening time. And if you haven't yet, I would recommend to watch my video on what to pack for Greece ua-cam.com/video/O4Hbp8Kawas/v-deo.html
Watching in July
Just spent two weeks in Athena and had no desire to leave. Next Spetses.
Have a wonderful time!

Do I need to take my passport with me when I get on a ferry ⛴️ to an island just for a day trip?
You don't. But I would always have a picture of it on your phone just in case.

1. no travel there in July and August, go before or after, then too hot.
2. avoid most popular places and especially islands.
3. carry cash on yourself
4. try tipical dishes from this island
5. covid-vaccination/test
2 is to avoid popular places if you want to exp the real Greece, many (unknown to the crouds) islands have their unique flavot even in August
3 is to carry some cash, not just cash wich is not very clever

Greece is not only MYKONOS AND SANTORINI! This incredible country has enough islands to go anytime and relax without crowds. So this tip is not that useful. There exist better islands that these two 💖
What's the best way to travel? Taxi, biking, bus? Going to Greece first time in September for 10 days.
You talk about Americans quite a bit however, Canadians love and travel Greece as well. 😃
You are absolutely right Andrew!
Thank you so much !!
My pleasure!
Can u make a Greece shopping haul video along with price please
I can :) I'll be back to Greece this summer.
Do we have to pay for using the restroom ?
Depends on where
Μπραβο κοπελια, μια χαρα τα ειπες. Καλη συνεχεια

No way! Now I really want to try🤣 I won't, I won't but I will be tempted to test it🤣🤣
@@StayFabulousTL Ha, ha, ha!!! No worries, foreigners do it all the time! I'm glad I found your channel!

What are some non standard islands to visit? Like not the famous ones like these but the hidden ones only locals know about
There's upwards of 6,000 counting every little piece of land sticking out, and a bit over 85 of them if we're talking ports / airports etc.
Try the two outmost northern ones in the Ionian sea the ones north of Corfu. You might wana stay there if you know what i mean.
@@moutsatsosa Othonoi & Erreikousa? Yeah just 1000 inhabitants between the two. Haven't heard much about them, hence I shall do some research!
@@dial3ctric327 Thats exactly what Jorge is describing.I dont know what you re looking for but you wont regret spenting a couple of days there. If you really like it crowded you can always take a sea cab to Corfu.

Oh yes, definitely!
Where are you located in ellada

What about if I am traveling to Greece not for eating but for cultural interests?
Then Athens is an absolute must for you! Here are top 10 things to do in Athens ua-cam.com/video/y8NJju1qEWc/v-deo.html
What kind of cash do you recommend American $ or Euro
Definitely euros
I'm interested
Oops we’re going next week 🤦♀️
I am sure you'll still have the most wonderful time!
How do I catch the bus from the airport to Mykanos Town and then MT (Mykanos Town) to Ornos?
Between Greece & Italy, which one would you recommend if only have to choose one???
Ooooh this is the toughest question in the world. My heart is split. The thing is Italy just offers so much diversity and contrast as far as the landscape, sights, food, etc. And it's not that Greece doesn't, it's just so different from Rome to Venice to Florence to Positano. If I had it my way, I would live May to October in Greece and October to May in Rome.
First timer in europe ? Italy for unique renaissence treasures, more exp in european traveling i would choose Greece
Do you recommend the off seasons, we are planning to visit Greece (Athens and Santorini)in month of December (Christmas week)

Tap H20 in Greece 🇬🇷 💙 is EXCELLENT QUALITY, and full of Minerals, Anastasia! ...And Most of the tap H20 comes from MINERAL SPRINGS! PLEASE CORRECT THIS!

Hey, whats your point of view on oct end?
I love Greece year round. But just keep in mind the season will be pretty much over, so lots of places will be closing (on the islands that is.) Other than that, the weather will still be pretty nice, so you can enjoy the beach and any outdoor activity.
