Not necessarily needed. It forces you to use only your ears and making your eq decisions, which means if you like how it sounds, then nothing else matters. ;)
But does it sound as good as the Masenburg DWMEQ-5? I have yet to hear an EQ plugin that equals the sound of the Masenburg. There are some great EQs out there: DMG Audio Equilibrium, Fab Filter Pro Q2, brainwox-digital 2, etc. Even the PSP Xeon HD. But I have not heard any that has the jaw dropping sound quality of the Massenburg DWMEQ, which is now available on the UAD platform, as well as TDM, etc.. I love PSP! Especially Vintage Warmer 2, Mastercomp, N2O and others. Just looking for A/B opinions between Master Q 2 & Massenburg.
Haven't compared them yet but I guess this is a different approach. Masenburg tries not to introduce any harmonic distortion, while MasterQ2 introduces distortion in a complex way, depending on bands you use, signal level and other settings in order to emulate analog amp behaviour. You've got 2 more bands here and some extra features, which turn MasterQ2 into a sort of Channel Strip focused on EQing. These are two different instruments I guess. "Dyn Hard" - a great mastering overdriving limiter is included in this one.
best mastering setup is m/s eq like museq elysia or what ever (mid (center) we make in mono and eq...then go stereo and switch only side eq..for work with eq of stereo sides, then in our chain is tube eq after all with no m/s mode like nseq...final boosting of ur favorite freq of everything ..by default its 50 100 2000-3000 8k 16k..what ever so masterq another beast, he can do both things ..u can use it like m/s eq ..u can use it like tube eq with dynamic and coloring buttons down there to create something special from it does banana look better then cheery to you? different things....masterq sound super cool ? yes ..did u read bob ludwig comment? do u know who is bob ludwig? do u know how many plugins hes review? can DMG Audio Equilibrium, Fab Filter Pro Q2, brainwox-digital 2 give u sound of masterq? no...because they dont have this extra algorithms down there... and i dont think that this eq`s that u write expt Masenburg DWMEQ-5 are good for mastering at all...plus masterq can do extra things like watch video...ua-cam.com/video/R1Jo28nJ5N4/v-deo.html like this...
I thought I had all the EQ plug-ins I could ever need, but this plug-in has some pretty nifty features that are incredibly musically useful.
