The drum began as an 18X18" Gretsch Floor Tom that gained four Guitar Strings to become the Snare Drum that it now is.

Exactly how I learned to play double-stroke rolls and still part of my practice routine. Played in an 18th century style fife and drum corps and now in two pipe bands good double stroke rolls absolutely essential in those genres of music. Learn to play double-stroke long rolls properly then move onto double-stroke 'numbered rolls' (fives, sixes, sevens, nines, elevens, thirteens, etc.) Great video I like the faux 'rope tension' drum.
Thanks Thomas. Where are you? I'm in the Southernmost county of Texas. Please check out my concert called "1776 Revisited" & "1846 @ Palo Alto". I performed them for the Cadets at Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas, April 2023 (with a few technical glitches).
@@dennislester9395 I'm up in western New York State. Always liked playing those 19th century style rope tension snare drums pipe band snare drums are a whole different animal. Back in 2009 took part in the largest 'French & Indian war' re-enactment in the world at Old Fort Niagara..over 3000 participants the drum corps alone was like 35 snare drums when we had 35 drums playing in unison it was like thunder.

This the best presentation of double stroke rolls
Thanks! Please watch my lesson on the Triple Stroke Roll.
This person gave so much in this lesson.
Thank you, Luis. Look for my lesson on the Triple Stroke Roll also!
Interesting use of an 18” Gretsch floor tom.
I used to teach at a store. That drum belonged to a drumset that someone bought, but didn't want that drum. It was orphaned. I bought it and turned it into a snare.
@@dennislester9395nice! I collect vintage Gretsch drums and have MODed a few myself. 🙂
Omg it sounded just like an old steam engine train!
Do this Daily! AND, check out my lesson on the Triple Stroke Roll. Thanks for subscribing.
Beautiful drum
It was a 18"X18" Gretsch Floor Tom that earned snares.
@@dennislester9395It looks so authentic.
Thank you for this!
Glad it was helpful! Make it one of your daily warmups! Best of Luck to you!
Also, check out my demonstration of the Triple Stroke Roll.
You can play the double stroke roll using the table of time, which means going from 8th's to groups of 12 and back.
This is the first thing you learn when you start playing drums. Singles and doubles slow to fast back to slow. You should be doing this as a warm up everyday.
what's the difference between second and third gear?
Grea
Good.got to work on this
You'll be glad you did! Mastery of the double stroke pays off in MANY WAYS! Keep in touch.
Buddy Rich had 10 gears!
How do you get the triple stroke rolls up to speed with CLEAN strokes without it sounding sloppy because I'm struggling HARD with that one.
I think the drum helped with the Kevlar head.
Where's the 64th strokes
Is this Moeller or is Moeller the three stroke method?
Moeller Strokes are primarily Double Strokes with an emphasis of strengthening the second stroke. I've seen people demonstrate a three stroke exercise and call them Moeller Strokes, but I disagree. I studied the Moeller Book when I was in High School, over 50 years ago. NONE of the exercises talked about Triple strokes. In my explanation of Double Strokes done in three gears, they show up in almost all of the Rudiments. The 5-15 Stroke Rolls would use "Third Gear" Double Strokes. The "Diddle" rudiments and most of the "Flam" rudiments use "2nd Gear" doubles. The "Drag" rudiments use both "2nd Gear" and "3rd Gear" doubles. My video about the Triple Stroke Roll has nothing to do with Moeller method. The Triple Stroke Roll produces the smoothest Concert Roll because the first three strokes are the strongest ones of a Multiple Bounce and when your hands are moving at 16th note speed, using a crisp concert snare drum in an auditorium, the audience will hear a roll that is as smooth as it can be. Good Luck in the Future!
@@dennislester9395 Why is JIm chapin, moellers best student teaching them as tripple strokes in his video then?
Please watch my video on the Triple Stoke Roll. Those strokes are too fast to control with your fingers. I'm not sure what Mr. Chapin was demonstrating, but you can not play drums without mastering the Double Strokes at ALL SPEEDS! Good Luck!
Mommy daddies.
What do Parents have to do with drums. Mine want me to play piano.
