You did a great job on the outboard. Good that you are in the United States as you can get most parts at a good price. Not so great for parts and cost here in Canada. In addition, there is a great deal of accomplishment on fixing those older motors as well for sure.
Thanks for the kind words Ralph. As far as parts Im lucky I collected a huge inventory from 13 years of dedicated scrapyard visits 1990-2003. Canada and shipping from USA is ridiculous too in some cases.Yes hearing them run after all the work is very personally rewarding...Stay Tuned!
Great video Glenn. A lot of guys would have said that motor is toast but not you lol. The bottom end sure looks nice now nice job. Keep up the great work another one coming back to life. Take care 👍🏻
Gotta love that rod bolt! The rods were probably toast anyway from the botched previous attack on the powerhead. OK, this one does have the crummy lower seal I mentioned in place of the carbon seal, OMC returned to the carbon seal again in 1957. These seals rusted and failed, many powerheads were slowly destroyed from water ingestion through the damaged lower seal. Are you using the Yamaha paint?? Wonder what was up with the doubled up fuel pump bypass covers, glad you returned them to original.
I guess it did run with all these screwy things at one time.Crushed in lineup centerpins for the two main bearings, rod bolt hex head, bypass covers wrong, waterpump nuts and bolts, even the cotton clothesline pull cord,LOL! I used Polychromatic Blue Paint from Vintage Outboard paints in Ohio this time I have a few cans expensive ($24/can) I almost didnt.... Hope to hear it run soon Stay Tuned!
I learned a long time ago that people don't take care of things ESPECIALLY BOATS AND BOAT MOTORS. And, it amazes me how they will spend thousands of dollars to buy them and then abuse them by being lazy and irresponsible. I love it when rich people throw stuff away!!!
Very true boats get it pretty bad around here outside and with most having no covers and not to mention Sun UV damage destroys the gelcoat along with rotting wood flooring and transoms from drenching rains over time.I always say as a race humans are very lazy in many ways,LOL! Me too sometimes,HA! Stay tuned thanks for chiming in....
Need parts ,complete Vintage motors New England area let me know.1950S-80S 2HP-40HP mostly OMCS.
I see your moving along pretty good! Amazing that this motor will ever run up again someday after all the years lying around nice job...Frank
