I recently purchased a Trek gravel bike for old rail road beds. did not want to take my carbon bike on that all the time. I swapped out my original tires for the Panaracer GK SK+ tan walls 700/38cc. I have yet to ride my new bike due to weather. I am hoping I made the right choice? I was told to run 40-45psi in the tires on gravel. for now I have tubes but am set up tubeless if needed. appreciate all your knowledge!

Thanks for the good review. How do you think these tires would be, for an 80% tarmac, 20% hard gravel mixture ? Do they roll well on the asphalt ?? I don't do too much off road, but I am looking for a good multi purpose 35 or 38 mm tire....thanks !!

I used the Gravel Kings on tours where I was 50/50 gravel to pavement and they were a good choice. But they are not the best for rolling resistance on pavement. I have been using Donnelly X'Plor MSO 700X32C for a few months. They are fantastic. The tight centre bead runs well on pavement. They seem considerably faster on the road and I have taken them on gravel and singletrack and have had no slippage problems. They are really fun on fast swooping singletrack! I will be doing a review on them soon. I would also like to demo a tire with a more solid centre bead and small knobs on the sides, like the Specialized Pathfinder Pro.

@@adventuresonadadbike8830 Thanks ! I like the Conti GP4000 as a pure road tire, but the GP4000 and GP5000 Conti's come no larger than 32mm. Finalizing my gravel bike choices down to this E5 Elite, the E5 Comp, and Trek Checkpoint ALR4 or ALR5. My older Trek Domane has the 105 groupset and I love the crisp shifting, but it can barely take 28mm tires, thus the search for a gravel bike.

how does the 35c perform climbing and going downhill in rocky gravel terrains and how does the comfort feel?

I really like 35c. I have 32c Donnellys that work well to but the 35 is a better width for me. Because I tour on multiple surfaces, going too fat sacrifices rolling resistance. The 35c width is a good compromise. I have had no problems with grip on gravel and some pretty gnarly rail type trails. Comfort is good, again for me, your results may vary!

What tire pressure did you find to be optimal

I ran them pretty high because I often run road and gravel on a tour and want the best rolling resistance as well as better support for the load. Usually around 65 psi - 4.5 bar

Easy! I only use kevlar bead (folding) tires, never wire bead, and installation is not a problem.
