As a mobile player, this weapon is a godsend, especially if you can learn to make use of the striking moment buff Edit: as far as I can tell, the satchel does increase the chances of finding any high rarity item simply because of more items
If I remember correctly (I haven't used it in a while so grain of salt here) when you successfully parry with the right-click functionality of this weapon, you are granted some brief invincibility. This allows you to take some riskier moves by getting close to an enemy to get the 400% damage buff without getting yourself killed in the process. As ana example, I could imagine this would speed up the Skeletron Prime fight by a good amount if you repeatedly drop through the skull or time your right clicks well with the melee arms' attacks. It's a much riskier playstyle, contrary to the safety normally granted by the weapon's long effective range, but the damage buff you get in return is no joke either!
So you can use the thing in two ways-either you play safe and get slightly below-average damage but stay far away from enemies, or you play risky and deal more damage
Don't forget we also have the sword that drops from OOA which has the same shield/parry secondary attack which also make the next attack deal significantly more damage (cannot remember if it's a crit or 4x DMG or both or what.. but it's significant DMG boost after parry). On top of that you get a regular sword swing which can be better or worse depending on situation.
This is one of the only weapons I’ve never been able to get my hands on, it just seems so hard to get that it isn’t worth it unless you happen to find it randomly, pre-mech.
Yeah, it's not even super great to make up for its low chance of obtaining it. I've heard it can be used to kill Duke Fishron fairly well, but literally any weapon that fires fast or has fast projectiles, when paired with good play, can do that.
lol, here because I happened to see it, bought it 'cause I'd not seen it the entire playthrough, and was buying any new item that I came across. Threw it, said "yup dumb boomerang" and put it away. But y'know, seeing a better look at it makes me want to give it a try.
Fun fact: Striking Moment also works on any melee weapon, not just the shield! So if you have a high damage weapon and Parry with the shield, you can use the high damage weapon for even higher burst damage!
You should have used a flask of ichor or cursed flame against prime. And this weapon is totally viable even against expert plantera assume that you are using proper buffs and ether frost, hallowed, chlorophyte or turtle armor, because all of these are very good for this stage. Obviously it's not the best melee weapon against plantera, but it certainly is more than capable of killing her.
god i felt so good getting the shield super early on, that thing cleared skeleton prime and its not even close same with twins infact it clears alot of bosses like damn
on my first ever terraria run my favourite weapon was the thorn chakram which carried me through most of pre hardmode, so when i hit hardmode this felt like the most natural upgrade and has always been another favourite of mine. really glad you covered this weapon, i had been secretly hoping you would give it some attention!
This weapon is always in my hotbar. In my current play through it has carried me through all the mech bosses and I recommend for all melee players if in stock
Hey Sock, I was thinking you could make some videos on *Accessories that deal damage,* cause Terraria has a bunch of those and it's interesting how one can use them. For example the Bone Helm and Bone Glove are really good against WoF and they're a really good support for extra damage, the Stinger Necklace it's amazing, extra armor penetration + honey buff + bees, Volatile Gelatin it's also pretty solid for mining and you can use it in boss fights & The Spore Sac it's AMAZING for farming, cause the spores kill enemies and you still receive banners.
Honestly, its best use is cave exploration and casual enemies. It bounces, homes after it bounces, seems to ignore walls when it travels on occasion, and usually deals with enemies quickly enough, especially considering there aren't usually a horde of enemies attacking you in caverns. The best application would thus be using it to farm for the hardmode ores, checking for enemies in caves, and dealing with events like the Goblin Invasion and Blood Moon.
In addition to the riskier playstyles available mentioned by others, this is one of the 2 weapons that completely cheese Duke Fishron by aggrevating him outside of the ocean biome and then parrying his aggro'd attack. With a cross necklace or any of its craftables, your i-frames will also be prolonged after a parry, but keep in mind you cannot parry again while your i-frames are still ticking down.
I got the Sergeant United Shield early into hard mode and used it until Plantera. Then I switched to the flamethrower since it was more appropriate to defeat Plantera with. I also used the enchanted knife summons from Queen Slime and the Reaper Scythe from my first Solar Eclipse. I was playing with mage equipment through all of this. I love this game.
In my opinion, one of the most underrated weapons is the demon Scythe because you can get it pretty early in the game theoreticly and it is pretty powerful with autofire
This thing absolutely carried me through early hard mode in my first expert playthrough. You can throw it from complete safety, and once its homing has been triggered, its range becomes effectively infinite until it has either hit its maximum number of targets, or simply run out of them. Not only is the damage actually quite decent, but you can use it to tag multiple enemies with debuffs and damage over time effects like ichor and frostburn. The hard mode jungle is usually a nightmare until you get some post mech gear, but with this shield, you can cower in a bush and just toss the darn thing and watch it play the game for you.
I find this to be the perfect weapon for playing as a tank, because: - you can focus entirely on dodging and still hit enemies - tank armor gives this weapon melee buffs - you can use it to get 20 extra defense - you can parry unlucky hits Other good options include the Shadowflame Knife (easy to aim, debuffs do constant damage even with a tank setup), but the shield is inferior to only the Vampire Knives.
I think the main use of this weapon is that it's great for everything in between the bosses. It isn't exactly the BEST for events dps wise, but it Cheeses events just as well as the death sickle. Just make a 1 block hole above you or in front of you, and it you can hold down the mouse button and walk away. Also great for farming biome keys and stuff like that for the same reason.
I'm a bit of a masochist and love the parry buff a lot, if you're willing to play it unsafe with the weapon it tears up all 3 of the mechanicals, but I don't think it's very useful after that point because 1. The Old One's Army gives you a sword that can do parries and 2. A lot of other ranged melees really start to shine after mechanicals
You could use it for its parry alone as well. I suspect on FTW/GFB Legendary, the higher defense might save you from crippling damage. You might even parry a get some bonus damage as well.
I remember getting this weapon on early hardmode Man this helped me throughout the whole game even if it got outclassed by other weapons I will just hide and throw the shield and it will do all the work by itself
I kid you not, on a melee playthrough, the very first day of Hardmode, the travelling merchant spawned and sold it. The Seargent United Shield combined with the Ice Sickle can breeze through early Hardmode. I even used it to get flairon early.
You can very easily cheese duke fishron with the parry ability as it gives you immunity frames, I used it on my master mode playthrough and it helped a ton
In my most recent playthrough, the first traveling merchant of hardmode came through right after entering hardmode, and I bought it. It helped me a lot!
It was my favorite exploration/minor enemy clear weapon in the game during hardmode and even post plantera. The homing on it is so helpful to just deal with things while fishing or running around.
It’s very useful for early to mid hardmode cave exploration, you can hide around a corner and attack swarms without line of sight. Particularly good in the underground jungle, ice, and corruption!
I got this from the first traveling merchant in my first hard mode for the worthy world, and yes. While it gets a bit redundant…. Post Plantera I wanna say? (Its been a while), the weapon does great as an easy ranged weapon with high damage for melee players. Allowing you to keep your distance while still keeping consistent damage. While the parry was not used much, it does have its uses. This was typically never used against bosses, however it is still just a fun mechanic haha. (Also it wipes out mothron’s babies with ease. I really had to say this with emphasis)
Me (who has played a lot of 1.36 terraria) and a friend who never played the game before got this randomly in the shop, I had no idea it existed so it got a chuckle out if me and because we had just started hardmode, it actually helped quite a lot!
This weapon is FANTASTIC as a vessel for ichor flasks. I used it as a summoner so I could kite farther than my whip allowed and still keep ichor on bosses. I used it all the way up till golem for this.
I used it in my first expert playthrough. Even though I was playing mage, I used it at early hardmod. Very good weapon for fighting in caves, when there is not so much space, but a lot of corners) And yes, this weapon also bounces from wals)
I got this really early in my latest melee play through with friends and pairing it with curved flames made the early hardmode a breeze. And due to its ability to track around corners you can sheese with it too.
I remember my friend did a getfixedboi seed run with one of his other friends and he talked about how this weapon is actually ridiculously good for early hardmode. The homing on it is crazy.
I would recommend it I used it in my master mode playthrough and it carried me through the destroyer and skeletron prime and was useful against the twins with it all you have to really worry about is dodging attacks
I had this weapon in my gameplay as well. It's *useable until you have the Terra Blade* . Before that though, you have it and an extra blade to fight with since the blasted shield was busy with it's own crusade! It held on for a pretty long while in hard mode as well. I beat the everlasting leaf out of Plantera with it for example. Pretty *useless against anything which doesn't have any mobs around* ... though it *IS* an awesome crowdcontrolling weapon!
I got The Sergeant United Shield during my first switch (melee) playthrough pre-mech. As a PC Player, I struggled with switch controls but this made "aiming" super easy lol.
On phone, the first time I played the game ever, this one was the first cool weapon Ive got by chance. Kept using it till I switched to pc, then never got it again lol
I was lucky enough to get it by coincidence on my most recent playthrough (which was also my first Vanilla playthrough lol) and I found that it is an extremely reliable way to apply the effects of your Flask of choice to all of Skeletron Prime's arms as well as the main head in one throw, without needing to aim or place yourself in a risky position. While I used Flasks of Cursed Flame, I imagine that using Flasks of Ichor in tandem with the Squire armor and the Explosive Trap Cane from the Old One's Army event would be a solid way to passively and significantly improve the speed at which you can destroy SP's arms, as he tends to sweep them across your platform (and into any awaiting explosive traps) pretty frequently.
I recommend throwing the peddlers hat, any fruit, a life crystal, and a mana crystal into shimmer In pre hardmode by going to your jungle side ocean (opposite of dungeon) and digging down 2/3 of the way through your world. if you don't mind it then move around 150 blocks away from your ocean and try it again
Super small niche I found for the shield is if you are doing the cheese method for the dreadnautilus (the one where you sit in a box and use minions) use can use the parry for its spinning charge instead of trying to max your defense and damage resist. Since it blocks the hit completely you just need to time it. Plus even if you are bad at timing just holding the shield out will buff your defense so it makes it even easier to tank. This is how I got the sanguine staff on my ftw master mode summoner playthrough
I ALWAYS look forwards to get this weapon whenever i defeat the wall of flesh during a melee playthrough and i was actually hoping that you would review this weapon
Also fun facts you could very easily kill duke fishron by simply enraging him and then stand still. Enraged duke did nothing more then to constantly dash at the player with high speeds meaning that you could kill duke fishron by using parries only but sadly i am convinced that it got patched in 1.4.4 because i didn’t manage to get it to work anymore
I randomly found this in the shop during a ranged playthrough so I used it to apply Midas debuff from Golden Flasks to Pirate enemies in my semi automated farm, the frost armor paired nicely
i swear everytime Sock posts a new video, i would always wonder how thale weapon he's reviewing would look with insane speed mod at the end, never ceases to amaze and satisfy my needs
I have this item in my first master mode game that i have been very slowly playing through and enjoying all the tiers of progression. I would say its best ability is the homing, it can be thrown around walls to hit clumps of enemies on the other side. Makes event farming slow but easy
the most use i've ever gotten from this was being an amazing quick ichor dealer to legedary mode mechdusa lol, i wasnt doing a melee build but i threw on a flask and the piercing + homing made it easy to instantly ichor the whole boss with one throw.
This weapon is solid. I just fought master mode destroyer with it and it wasnt too hard, especially with the homing effect. I would've preferred shadowflame knives but I have terrible luck with goblins.
This was my saving grace alongside the Shadowflame knife on GetFixedBoi. Fought Mechdusa with both of these weapons with an enormous underworld arena and I was able to handle it easy enough
I got it in my journey skyblock playthrough and my friend was melee, we didnt even know it had homing So many good weapons wasted just because weapons dont home in on dummies 😔
@@AssortedMold268 fair, but mods such as luiafk and calamity have their own dummies that can be homed normally in to and cant be homed in to during bossfights
i managed to get it in the first days of the hardmode in my melee playthrough. It was AMAZING. You get frostcore armor, cursedflames flask, hold down your mouse button and ypu can get wih it up to golem or even lunatic no problem
The only thing I knew about this weapon before this video is that red was a big fan of captain America, so he added that weapon. Its a shame knowing like 95% of players won't be getting it because of bad rng. Still another great video though; Keep it up and you'll surely get that shiny silver play button! edit: (I've been here since 40k subs I think, but its been great to see your channel grow. The best part are these videos though!)
I recently got it on a pure melee master mode playthrough and did end up using it for a while. Didn't realize that it could block but it was pretty nice to have against Skeletron prime, the DPS is, as you mentioned, bad but the homing bounces are great for taking out the limbs and once those are gone and there's no more limbs and projectiles to dodge you can go in with a higher DPS weapon. I think I used it for The Twins as they can be annoying to hit with most melee weapons and while it does make the fight quite easy I wouldn't recommend it due to the low DPS.
Always either this or the bananas that I get as the shields Parry ability is really good for no reason or the bananas for just being the goofiest strongest thing ever to be conceived
Time spent goes up in exchange for more safety and a more casual approach to bosses and enemies. If nothing else it would be a great weapon if you get lucky and find it early for exploring your new hardmode world with relative ease.
this shield is the best. i tried to do melee only playtrough on expert and I couldn't beat any mechanical boss, until I found merchant with this shield. the destroyer was TOO EASY with weapon with 143 damage (with buffs) and great piercing. the best early hardmode weapon for me.
the sergeant united shield got me through the early game on the getfixedboi seed, probably wouldn’t have gotten past mechdusa if not for it. solid weapon, gets the job done
I could imagine this been really handy for mobile players!
I assume a lot of mobile players just connect wireless controllers
Unfortunately, no not for me
I don't know about mobile, but I've used it against plantera in at least 2 different weapon randomizer runs.
As a mobile player, this weapon is a godsend, especially if you can learn to make use of the striking moment buff
Edit: as far as I can tell, the satchel does increase the chances of finding any high rarity item simply because of more items
this video was not recorded in 1.4.4

it also gives you 20 defense which can be useful if you know that you're going to take a hit
i think crabbar or shyguymask made a video on it
edit : its in the "4 ways to destroy duke fishron" video of shyguy

true excalibur is amazing for plantera
The traveling merchant will never ever give me a crimson cloak
Edit: thanks for the 100 likes : )
What's that?
@@lunathekuduruk1311 cloak, vanity item
I think I’ve gotten that a few times now, but what seems to happen to me is that when I want a specific item it never appears.
You think that's bad? I got the crimson cloak but I can't equip it in any slot, social or vanity
Something be wrong with the mobile version methinks
I have the crimson cloak

it appears when you have better thing AND IT DISAPPEAR WHEN YOU NEED IT

You can cheese duke with this so use it
It's not really cheesing in the true sense, you still need plenty of skill to execute it right
Well they seemed to have fixed such an exploit by just changing how duke fishron behaves when enraged

The shield parts 20 defense is amazing if you plan on tanking a lot
Finally a video on this! I love the shield :)
I love using this weapon in my playthrough! but when you talked about 400% dmg increase I had a WTF moment.
I believe you can switch to a different weapon after parrying, so this makes a good utility weapon significantly after it's acquired.
I got The Sergeant United Shield during my first switch (melee) playthrough pre-mech. As a PC Player, I struggled with switch controls but this made "aiming" super easy lol.

Have you considered doing a video on Frostband? I personally find it one of the strongest and most easy to obtain harddmode weapons in the game.
Sock: It’s extremely rare to get and is on par with the Gatligator.
*Me with my shield on my first ever world without even knowing it was rare*

This weapon is solid. I just fought master mode destroyer with it and it wasnt too hard, especially with the homing effect. I would've preferred shadowflame knives but I have terrible luck with goblins.
Managed to pick it up on my first solo 1.4 playthrough, it was so good.
I used this wepon once and fell in love with it, apsolutly recomended
This weapon carried me through the mechanical bosses during my first playthrough, now it sits on the wall of my house
This was my saving grace alongside the Shadowflame knife on GetFixedBoi. Fought Mechdusa with both of these weapons with an enormous underworld arena and I was able to handle it easy enough
You should do showcases like this but for calamity mod!!
Traveling merchant when I'm playing melee: no shield
Traveling merchant when I'm playing literally any other class: no shield
we live in a susiety
I’ve had this in two of my play throughs and it’s wonderful to use !
I got it in my journey skyblock playthrough and my friend was melee, we didnt even know it had homing
So many good weapons wasted just because weapons dont home in on dummies 😔
well if you had dummies in your arena then it might just go to them instead of hitting enemies
Really love your vids man, keep up the great work
The only thing I knew about this weapon before this video is that red was a big fan of captain America, so he added that weapon. Its a shame knowing like 95% of players won't be getting it because of bad rng. Still another great video though; Keep it up and you'll surely get that shiny silver play button! edit: (I've been here since 40k subs I think, but its been great to see your channel grow. The best part are these videos though!)
I absolutely love this weapon and so fun and it basically hits everything on screen
I used to use this thing sooo much when I got it, it was really op early to mid hardmode
Everybody's gangster till I pull up with the sergeant united shied
I was so excited to find this weapon on my play through I purchased it immediately. The following day he was selling another one.
It really helped against the Flying Dutchman before beating a single mech boss
Me and my friends were lucky enough to get this on our playthough, and it carried us through all of the mech bosses
I suggest one of those betsy's overlooked weapon the "Flying Dragon".
One time I got this weapon right after killing the wall of flesh, and it carried me all the way to golem
Always either this or the bananas that I get as the shields Parry ability is really good for no reason or the bananas for just being the goofiest strongest thing ever to be conceived
The perry thing is great cuz you know the weapon attack goes up by whooping 400% dealing massive damage
On my first ever playthrough managed to get it, this shield carried me through most of the hardmode
Thats one of the best thumbnails i have ever seen
it was very fun to apply ichor to Sprime and twins using this with flasks
It could be cool for like a tank build to be able to sit there with extra Defense plus if parry worked on bosses just parry their hits
I just woke up and this is the first thing I hear and see and it's amazing
Sockrteez omg thank you for the heart I love you
I have yet to see this one among the travelling merchant's stock!
I got this after watching a chippy gaming video and I can certainly say that it was the best thing I ever bought from the traveling merchant
Love your vids❤️

Blade tongue is also a good Melee weapon for early hardmode and can even care to mid or late hard mode
I saw a video of someone using the shield's block to trivialize Duke Fishron. Haven't tried if it works anymore, but it makes it very good.
Time spent goes up in exchange for more safety and a more casual approach to bosses and enemies. If nothing else it would be a great weapon if you get lucky and find it early for exploring your new hardmode world with relative ease.
Ok a calamity infernum tip about that shield. You can use its parry on skeletron primes dash attack to not take damage
this shield is the best. i tried to do melee only playtrough on expert and I couldn't beat any mechanical boss, until I found merchant with this shield. the destroyer was TOO EASY with weapon with 143 damage (with buffs) and great piercing. the best early hardmode weapon for me.
the sergeant united shield got me through the early game on the getfixedboi seed, probably wouldn’t have gotten past mechdusa if not for it. solid weapon, gets the job done
