Keith Fuller Hi Keith! Jim is in his studio, so the constant lights are working for him. If you want to overpower the sun, you're probably better off using strobes or powerful speedlites.
Flash might be dead for the indoor studio, but outdoors, to overpower direct sunlight, you will need to borrow lamps from the Yankee stadium if you want to use continuous lighting.
3 years after this video was released and it seems the rumors of the death of strobes like those for Mark Twain 13 years before he actually died may be "greatly exaggurated". Either way, the Eyelighter proves to be a great modifier for both strobe and continuous light sources. Thanks for watching.
Love the look of the eyeliner. I think the prediction of flashes being gone in future was incorrect, however LED lighting is indeed popular. I use both, and also own the skylux, however, I use my flashes more often, as continuous light is hard for model to look at. Perhaps at a high angle it is okay though, as in this video.
That is the problem with continuous light and the DULLNESS for portrait photography ( Agree with you on video), where the flash is going to pop the catch light and saturate the sensor of the camera, flash strobes are not going away anytime soon.
It’s funny how Westcott came out with a new line of FJ Strobes when flash is suppose to be a thing of the past. Don’t listen to this guy, the Eye Lighter works amazing with studio strobes. I’ve even used it out doors in HSS. Try that with continuous light.
great product... great teacher... please showcase more of his videos... many people miss you Jim (9/2023)...RIP.
Here we are in 2020 and flash is alive and kicking.

Great presentation...very to the point and informative...thanks so much
how can you use constant lights with huge modifiers in bright sun?

@@WestcottLighting But haven't you heard? Flash is already a thing of the past!
Hello! What size do you use one the strobe light?

Not sure where he got that notion from. Flash will never be a thing of the past lol.
What if I wanted to shoot above the knee how would i place the eye lighter to light the face the same way
I love my Eyelighter but my strobe and flash units aren't being replaced anytime soon.

Flash and strobe will never go away lol
I can see the usage of strobes and speedlights, but I think constant lighting is the future as Mr. Schmelzer says.
gnzvideos We tend to agree!

"Flash a thing of the past". lol Not a chance.

Here in 2021, flash has gone NOWHERE buddy. In fact it booming. So much for your prediction.
Constant light will never ever ever take over flash EVER. Constant light simply don’t have enough power to make flash be thing of the past.

Thanks for watching Rob! Both continuous light and flash both definitely have their advantages and disadvantages.
