We spent around 4 hours on the trail including a short lunch break and bear viewing. We didn’t go all the way to the top of the trail and we don’t know how much longer it would have taken to get to the ice field. It can easily become a full day adventure! Hey thanks! The seats aren’t too bad, we’ve sat in worse…and better. If it makes you feel any better, I snapped a 6wt Sage ($600) on a silly red while beading for bows up high near Coopers Landing. I knew better than trying to land/fight the fish instead of just pointing at it and breaking it off. That was a costly mistake for a red I wasn't even targeting or wanted. Oh, I love Trusty's Hardware! Such a cool place. NOTE: DO NOT rinse any filleted salmon off! Ever. As soon as you introduce water on to the exposed flesh of the salmon, it starts to break down and deteriorate. Guaranteed to not last even if quickly vac-packed and frozen. If you want/need to clean a fillet, let it dry a bit and simply wipe off whatever you want removed with a clean paper towel. As for dunking the fillets in the river - that's just asking for a case of beaver feever (Giardia).

It's kinda like when you go albacore tuna fishing and after you've brought in the 10th or so tuna and your forearms and hands are cramped in "the claw" position, you toss your anchovie back out and it's bit as soon as it hit the water.

I received my father’s Remington model 740 woods master 280 in 1969 and when my oldest son turned 40 I gave it to him, oh I still have a model 700 280 . Love the gun

You're making yourself work harder by dragging your rod tip through the water! Also get some bullet weights. They're streamlined and cause less resistance when you pull them through the water.

We’ve tried the bullet weights and they are great, but this is the gear we have for now. We’ve been okay with our setup! Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe we’ll try with bullet weights again next season!

Got boots? I wear size 17, so I have to improvise with my Bogs Urban Farmer boots. If you can't find the right brand name wading boots, it pays to improvise and try something else, like an oversized pair of sneakers.

Cait ended up with some Simms boots. She seems happy with them, though anything is an improvement over what she had…

Dan, no wonder it took you longer to get your limit. The fish were swimming past your feet, while you were casting too far out!

Could be true! More likely it was because I was filming Cait and netting for her. We still did okay! Not going to complain about fishing on a day like this!
