I think you are right with most of your points. My local shop also ordered 800 displays in total and they get 60 displays even though they organize two weekly events a week. For the first set they where completelly dumbed by the distributor, they ordered 600 displays and the got around 2 cases and they didnt get any OP displays etc. They also cut down the prerelease kits to 40 pc, on the other hand, I was able to buy last week a dozen Prerelease Kits from another online store which is not even organizing prerelease events for a very cheap price. There is some weird shit happening at the moment... But I also noted, that there is a huge online store in Germany, they took preorderes of 1500+ displays for EUR 85/display which is an insanely cheap price, but in the end the ended up with getting 60 displays and now they are really screwed which I think is a very good thing from Asmondee/distributor to cut down the orders for the online stores. An online shop selling out displays in HUGE numbers for this price are hurting local shops which need to sell the displays more expensive to break even and also the players which are not able to get product on the long run for an acceptable price.
Same problem here in NH. They offer nothing for our lgs, 1/3rd of what’s needed for the prerelease. 5 prerelease kits for 16 players! Then 0nly 20 boxes as well.😢
7:08 You hit the nail on the head right here. The second SWU starts to lose popularity Asmodee will end it. They don't build community and they can't ever produce enough product for any of their lines.
Man I hate to hear that. Your channel is the reason I got into this game. I love this game and think FF did an amazing job. I don’t know what to do as a customer. I preordered 8 boxes, 2 from 4 different stores in hopes of just getting two because allocation is so bad. As a result, as you mentioned, people are jacking up the price of the boxes and ripping people off. Any ideas on what I can do as a customer to still support LGS, the game , and FF games while letting Asmodee know we as customers are not happy with them? Thanks!
Just keep buying what you can from your local game stores that actually host events, and send some emails to Asmodee and FFG customer service complaining about the scalpers having tons of product when your LGS can't get any.
exactly, and lorcana didn't really become affordable or easy to come by until about set 3, I think this is a bit of a knee jerk reaction. We already know set one is getting another print run before set 3 comes out. The game exploded in popularity. Based on what he said, he was able to get more supply than my LGS, our constructed scene is really strong. Pack support for draft or prize support ran dry over a month ago here for set one. Our LGS had to work with distributors to secure supply where they could and got what they could from Asmodee too for set 2, seems like his gripe with the new set isn't a pattern as much as bad luck/prep. Hard to say.
You say that in order to get the pre release you had to buy all the gamegenic stuff too?, i call bs on that as my friend did a spark of rebellion pre release in the uk at his lgs and didn't have to buy the additional gamegenic items
Pay attention a bit more. This guy runs a store. He’s talking about ordering kits for his store. I had your same reaction but then I kept watching and realized he’s a store.
It is good that they not let pre-release kits If you not partipicate in a event, then scalpers buy it and it end up on ebay for insane prices. I think you were good get 40 displays, I know one that got 3 displays for selling. It is a hype product with alot chase cards and the pullrates are low so its exciting crack packs. Let they have some more sets released and think you are not alone being heartbreaked. Happy get two displays!
I understand the complaints and yeah it's an issue but what causes some of the problems and hurts games is these days people see these as $ and not games. Folks being allowed to buy up all the boxes leaving none for others or events is a problem. They either sit on the boxes to flip for inflated prices or crack the packs chasing the money cards and its not even about the game.
We really need to learn from the past. Asmodee and FFG just treat games and card shops like this and move on. Get what money you can from swu and focus back on Magic
@@oldschoolmtg i was lucky just to get one box and three prerelease kits from my lgs. i cant even imagine what 400 boxes even looks like. when i was in the musical instrument business we used to get shafted constantly because as a mom and pop store we just could not compete with the buying power of national chains. we definately would not have gotten away with bullying our distributors for product. it was very easy to get cut out of markets entirely just due to exclusivity contracts. telling our customers about the arraingments the manufacturers would make us adhere to would have definately broken those contracts and cost us the account entirely. blacklist city. so, in short, yes. they could very easily give you less, or even none at all.
Oh, my LGS has 240 prerelease kits, 200 cases and every store I know of has the same. The store I am playing at is at MSRP. The game is far from dead and expansion 3 the supply chain is fixed, they have admitted it. $109.00 is msrp and I am getting a case for 10% off. Don't be discouraged set 3 everything is fixed, it is a great game. We had a 72 player 1k star wars tournament at my LGS and we understand how limited the supply is. It takes time, the game just took off way beyond what was planned. As far as scalpers, they are watching them and they won't be getting anything else. Just hang in there, this stuff is planned a year in advance and any issue takes a year to correct and they have all the corrections made. I don't even like Star Wars and the art isn't that good, I love this game. Make proxies to play to keep the game going, 3wr Red Five Space 2 - 3 Rebel Raid Don't even need art, do what you need to for your community to have fun. Then phase proxies out as product comes in. The game will be rotating the factions supported, the story won't always be about rebels. Set 1 reprints happening around November.
I know you mean well, but there's something inherently frustrating about messages that amount to, "That's odd. Every is great at my store. Be patient and everything is going to work out." It's easy to say that when you are getting the product you want and at reasonable prices. The truth is that this is not what is happening everywhere. How's about we tell all the stores in your area to cancel all their orders so that other areas can get theirs? I mean, your players just need to use proxies right? It'll be fine. You don't need real cards. Nobody will complain. You are placing a lot of faith in Asmodee when their history does not support your claim. They mismanage their games and when the interest wanes, they kill them off. As much as they say they've been doing to play catch up, it doesn't feel like enough to me. Am I being unreasonable? Maybe. At the end of the day I'm mad at myself for getting sucked in again. I said I was done after Destiny and here I am at the same place again.
I even admitted it isn't the same everywhere, I chose to patronize a store that is a decade old with good standing and drive 30 minutes extra to do so. My only point is the sky isn't falling, FFG admitted their faults and is correcting the issue. I don't support a store that preys on it's customers. If I was unfortunate and unable to get product, I would still play this game. Card games are always a risky thing to start playing, this game is worth it. "Every" store getting product isn't scalping. Stores talk to each other and spread product around between them also share large tournament schedules with each other. This game had a three year advanced notice it was being made and plenty of time to establish a good standing with all companies involved. The game is great, the supply will be fixed, the community is strong, they are play testing sets 6 and 7 all while the next two sets are ready to print in fact the third is being printed. You do you I would proxy everything.
By saying you chose to patronize a store that is a decade old with good standing, you're (perhaps unwittingly) suggesting that it's the store's fault if they can't get product. Yeah, my LGS should have blindly bet on FFG when their track record does nothing to warrant that level of trust. FFG says they knew people were going to be extra critical of them because they've blown it in the past. You do realize that this is the company that announced that they were stopping development of Star Wars Destiny about the same time that they announced a new set? The numbers just weren't there. So them working on sets 6 and 7 doesn't actually mean very much to me. The game designers will continue to work on the product until they're told to stop because that is what they are paid to do and THEY believe in their game. But THEY don't get to control whether those sets get published or not. We live in a world where a movie studio can decide that it's better to shelve FINISHED films rather than release them to streaming because there isn't enough money in it. I have no trouble believing Asmodee could trash several sets' worth of product at any time if they don't continue to hit their numbers. Destiny was hot when it started too. And it cooled off when they were caught off guard by how much demand there was going to be for the game. Oh but they learned their lesson this time! They printed so much more and this game just turned out even bigger than they could have hoped! It's not their fault! And actually, no it's not. That doesn't make the pill any easier to swallow. At the end of the day, we will have to agree to disagree. I could say we'll see who's right, but that implies I actually care, which at this point I do not. I've made my choice to not continue with this game because there are plenty of other games to choose from. In the interest of full disclosure, one of those games for me is Lorcana, which went through the exact same thing that SWU is going through. I recognize therefore the inherent hypocrisy of me slamming FFG while seemingly giving Ravensburger free pass. But I have to stress, FFG has a worse track record for me so I'm choosing not to continue on this ride with them at this time. Will I be back? Who knows but also who cares? It's not like my dollars mean that much to them when they have people clamoring to give them theirs. My point was that your original comment came off as condescending even though I don't think it was your intention and I was just explaining why. If you don't see it, that's fine...to use your own words, "you do you".

Saying the game is in huge, huge trouble when the issue is that demand far, far, far exceeds the expected demand (and thus the supply) is a little off track.
