    At GrowingDeer.tv we're all about showing hunters what we are doing each week in the field as we work on our Proving Grounds and others to have better deer hunting! If The hunting strategies and techniques we show can be used if you are hunting public or private land. Our farm has wild, free-ranging deer. If we can grow big antlers on these tough Ozark Mountain bucks, you can too! Good wildlife management tactics, deer management, and food plots with regenerative ag techniques that build better soils! Watch our weekly episodes to see what we're doing, the advice that Dr. Grant Woods (Ph.D Wildlife Biologist) has to share along the way.
    If you haven't watched many of our hunting and land management videos, here are a few reviews from our viewers:
    Donnie: Best teaching channel on UA-cam!! It's like a class and lab all in one.
    Mike: The videography adds complexity and probably makes the hunts a bit less enjoyable for you, but we genuinely appreciate the work you folks do to help educate us. I’ve been an avid hunter for over 50 years, yet I’ve never met another avid hunter who couldn’t teach me something. Thank You all.
    Drew: Awesome to follow the stories that go along with the Growing deer channel. Ive been watching so long i feel like I'm part of the growing deer family! Love it

      Rikki - If you are just now starting to feed, it's very important to start very slowly - small amounts - which means deer will waste energy fighting over the corn. It's a very tough time of year to start feeding.

      @@GrowingDeerTV awesome! That's great to hear, here in Virginia I have received timely rain over the last month just when the food plot needs it. This is my first year planting what I call a "real" food plot and I hope I'm not just getting spoiled, brassicas, winter peas, and winter wheat are all thriving!

      Joseph - We've shared some of our hand tool techniques in the past. Ideally the soil isn't disturbed. Using glyphosate to terminate the existing crop and/or prescribed fire is a way to make a good seedbed without disturbing the soil. Both these techniques leave the roots in place that adds lot of organic matter to the soil and when they decompose the root channels serve as perfect tillage and aeration of the soil, which allows the right amount of oxygen in and water to infiltrate versus pond or run off. We be planting plots using these techniques soon and we'll try to share our processes and results with you!

    We get regular afternoon rain showers here in SC Grant. My throw and go hidey hole is on their second leaves. Ive got another big push for the rest of my food plots to be done before end of September. I use your advice. I plan on foot crimping and seeding another hidey hole plot in an opening I found on a friend’s property while scouting. He likes the idea and appreciates all the help making his property better. He’s still new to hunting and I relish the opportunity to mentor him.
    Take care my friend.

    Planted my food plot this weekend here in Tennessee. The rains came and after just 4 days it’s jumping out of the ground.
    I’m hoping the weeds are suppressed enough not to over take my food plot.
    Planted winter wheat, winter rye, winter peas and some Daikon radish mixed in. It’s looking great so far.

    Would you recommend a No-Till Drill for very rocky areas in the Missouri Ozarks (Shannon County)? We have a few hard to reach areas that have some Large size rocks/boulders that I'm afraid would damage the drill. Normally, we disc and plant winter wheat.

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  4 роки тому +1

      Sean - we grow great beans now where they are protected. The limiting factor to grow beans in most places is the number of deer browsing and damaging the plants.

    so i don't own a drill, can i still crimp and roll over the old crop and use a spreader to seed?? Do i have to overseed to compensate for the seeds not getting good soil contact?

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  4 роки тому

      Adam - If there's lots of vegetation on the soil many seeds will germinate but die before their roots reach the soil. It would be better to broadcast into the standing vegetation and then crimp or spray.

    So how long of a growing period did you give the sorghum and was it a grain variety or forage variety? I tried doing something similar with buckwheat but the growing period is so short it didn’t last until I was ready for my fall plot even though I didn’t plant until the first week in June.

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  4 роки тому

      It was a tall forage variety and it was planted during late May. Buckwheat is very palatable to deer and matures in 70 days.

    You havent known deer to eat sorghum because you kill it before it seeds. Deer eat it by the head full here in SC.

    • @stevendavis3072

      I’ve never messed with any of the hybrid plot screens. All I’ve ever known is grain sorghum. Never once heard it called milo. Maybe it’s a difference of where we’re from. Idk but deer eat the grain heads around here that’s for sure. Here’s an article I found by QDMA that might help us. www.qdma.com/grain-sorghum-deer/
