The Minor is a legend. This story would be even more complete with a look at its history and performance in Africa, especially Nigeria.

2:03 I took driver's ed in a Dodge Dart with an automatic in 1978 and have never heard of a driving school that gave lessons on manuals, so I did a quick search on the subject. Most of the schools that offer training on stick shifts here in the 'States require you to already have a license, and given how nerve-wracking it was for my parents to teach me and my sisters on one, I can see why. This guy must have even more patience with his students than he has with his cars.

The ghastly grey-green seen eg @2:10 was by far the most common colour of Minors in the UK. I heard that during WW2 the only paints made were Battleship Grey and Battle Tank Green; I guess Morris bought all the surplus paint after the war, mixed them together and painted Morris Minors with the stuff.

Statutory Off-Road Notification. If you don't have one on a car sitting in a garage, you are liable for Road Tax in the UK.

Ugly bulbous 1940's styling. The good thing was the A Series engine, but not much else. The points about simplicity and strength applied to many other cars of that period and the "durability" is only because enthusiasts put their life and soul into keeping them running - they rusted like any other car.

I wouldn't call them ugly. They were not what most people would call sexy, but they had a certain charm, inside and out. If you really want ugly, you'll have to shell out whatever a 1970s Austin Martin Lagonda sells for these days.
