@ivarbrouwer197 I've started watching Amy's cycling adventures which gives that on the bike vlogging fix, Francis was the OG though and I'll always lap up his riding content.
I live in Bali now. Just down a bit from Malaysia. This is the hot season now. I try to finish my rides by 11:30 so I don't die from heat stroke. You're all mad riding in that heat. Can't wait for the rest of your adventure. Well done, all of you. Stay safe
Hey guys fellow Malaysian 🇲🇾 here my advice would be to start early before sunrise around 5.30 or 6 am, that's what we local cyclist normally do during this time year (Spring Equinox) . Because its really hot atm! 35 to 37c. Enjoy the journey!
Correct! I lived in Vietnam for a few years and rode most mornings - departing 5:15 to 5:30, returning about 8 to 8:30. First 45 mins was dark but coolest part of the day.
Yeah exactly! That's what we do in Beijing when it's summer (June, July, Aug). After sunrise the temp quickly climbs up. Sunrise around 4:30 but when it's 8:30 it will already be 32c or more depends on the day! You only got this 4 hour window a day. During the night the temp won't drop as much so best is the morning. Though I think when it's in a journey situation it's hard to do so. You have to ride the most of the day though or it'll all become some "morning foreign training camp" experience that's not what we usually intended for...
I remember, being a bike enthusiast myself in Europe, moving to Singapore. Took my bicycle out for a spin around Singapore island the second day. Did a 85km tour. Next days I spent visiting the gp and hospital for burnt parts of my body. After that got home, went to bed and didnt get out for 3 straight days. Heatstroke, burnt all over and learnt my lesson: SE Asia isn't Europe. This land is not for cycling, other than during the night. I now live in Kuala Lumpur these days and never ever would touch a bicycle again here in the tropics. It's just madness, really. But still enjoying the video. Keep it up, you crazy bunch!
This video is pretty much how I feel biking here daily. My advice, avoid the sun as much as you can. Ride early, before sunrise and ride late, after sunset. And drink way more than you need.
I’ve spent a lot of time in Malaysia with my previous job, got quite a few friends in Penang and KL, such a lovely lovely country, I love it there. Beautiful people.
I just love when you take these trips. And I remember that a few weeks ago I was also heat striken on the bike, but it was worth the one day trip on 35 - 38°C
Great content. Malaysian climate is bonkers hot . Spent a week there without a bike then but walked and hiked through the mountains. I wished for rain daily .
In that kind of heat, you need to be drinking at least a litre of fluids per hour. You should also take electrolytes before and after your ride. I am guessing you did neither but this would have made things easier. It is very easy to get heatstroke in these conditions. Lived and cycled in Thailand for 20 years so have some experience with this.
Im from the Philippines and Its the hot season or summer now here in Southeast Asia. Hoping that you guys will be able to overcome and adapt to the weather somehow for the following days and ride safe always!
Wearing white arm sleeves help under the hot sun. I even had very thin face scarf during my ride from JB to Malacca ( 240km - that's a nice route with less traffic).
Most videos of the Penang loop cycle start long before sunrise, just to get a bit of cooler temps (25C, Baltic) and avoid peak hour traffic in town. Well done for doing the harder option!
Been to Malaysia 25 years again bike touring from austrailia to cambodia, Hard going in the heat, to be honest at the pace you guys Go no fun at all, the Most fun and enjoyment for me was Meeting and spending time with local people... I now ride fast here in germany and have holidays where its warm.. 👍🏻
Awesome video. Everyone was missing this cade. I was once in badu pahat walking as an European on the street and everybody stated from their AC cars thinking I was mad to be out in the heat... Keep hydrated!
You guys are absolutely barmy. The traffic, humidity, temperature, puffa jackets… best of luck for the rest of your trip and I’m looking forward to watching! All the best from neighbouring Singapore!
I'm from Malaysia but now residing in Chengdu, China where the bicycling culture here in Chengdu is well and very much alive. One word of advice when bicycling in Malaysia, hydrate, hydrate and hydrate. You can easily get overheated and dehydrated. Sun stroke is a very real danger. Stay safe. I rode 3,180km on my motorcycles in 3 days and that was hard work.
Lived in Malaysia for ten years. Even brought a bike with me. Never once did the thought cross my mind that it would be a good day for a ride. The heat and humidity are not to be underestimated. Ask any Malaysian to name the best invention of all time, the universal answer is air conditioning. That said it is a wonderful place, especially the food and the people. Looking forward to adventure.
we've just ridden from Penang to Selama, Ipoh, Cameron Highlands, Selangor, Bukit Fraser and Bentong. We timed it to slip out of Penang on the ferry to Butterworth early Sunday morning and seem to have been more judicious about how to carry stuff and when to shelter from the heat. Thanks for making us feel so sensible!
Great to see you guys out in Asia! I think it's really good for you UK guys (and a lot of US guys) to go around the world to see that there are actually a lot of people on the 2-wheel everyday. They are safe, sound and there isn't a genocide just by riding bikes along with cars. Bikes, e-scooters, trikes, all as a means of transportation rather than some exotic sports equipment. It's just sick to me to see a lot of people in UK like "OH, I can't ride there! So many cars! It must be so dangerous! I'll get killed!" even from experienced cyclist......
Well done, lads. Hope the roads weren’t too bad to cycle on. Weather around this time is hellishly hot and annoyingly humid, especially coming from UK weather. Have a safe trip! This first vlog for the trip deserves a ‘tabik’! (That’s a salute in Malay)🫡
Welcome to Malaysia. Ask Decathalon why they don't sell touring bike models in Malaysia. Maybe it is better to cycle at night, unless you're using trunk roads and avoiding the North-South highway. Heatwave now. Gets hot by 10am until evening when it typically rains for a bit. If you're using trunk roads, cycle in daylight. Those roads are narrower and have more frequent road accidents. Cheers.
Welcome to Malaysia, I have been following your channel for quite awhile and today I am very proud plus still can't believe you guys in my country Malaysia
A kiwi here with two cents. Eat where the locals eat. Be careful with salads, often washed in less than clean water. Two work trips to penang island, couple weeks at a time. The only bloke to get food poisoning ate at american fast food.
Strongly recommend you wear a light cotton head sock to protect your neck and head (the sun will burn your head through the helmet vents!) from direct sunlight. Soak it in cold water at every opp, Will prevent you dying from heat stroke in SE Asia's hottest season. Nice vid!
This is the sort of video that got me into your channel. Great to see it happening again! You really couldn't have picked a worse time to visit Malaysia, though... Go back in October or November. Ha! If you want some similar heat and a few leg sapping climbs, come and visit Korea in August. We can all melt together! 😂
I don't know why, but this brought to mind that scene in the old comedy "The fall and rise of Reginald Perrin" when the car breaks down in the safari park, it gets surrounded by lions and the little girl says, "I done poopie-plops in my panties". Looking forward to day 2!
Yes, it does get hot in Malaysia. Currently in Kuala Lumpur, at 5.40pm, it is about 32 deg with a high of 34 deg. Reading through the comments, I agree that Malaysian cyclists go out early for a ride. I myself would leave the house at 7.30am for my weekend rides. It is also the month of Ramadhan for Muslims (month long fasting during the day), so only night rides which is cooler. But it has been raining in my neck of the woods in the evenings, so not really a good condition for me. Enjoy your stay in Malaysia guys, maybe we’ll see each other on the GCE in Selangor, if you are ever coming to this part of Malaysia.
Don’t forget that lots of riders do audexes in Malaysia during this season. Mistake one would be you folks riding without arm socks, and wearing dark coloured jerseys.
Love it. Been missing the travel ride videos. But to go from England in winter to Malaysia to ride straight off the plane… ugh. 😅🤪. And seeing Francis hit a wall makes us all feel the heat. Keep it up
This is what i've missed on this channel for a LONG time, actually out on the bike vlogging, looking very forward to this!
Yep, I’m somewhat bored with the GCN bashing while doing the same: adventure, improvisation and people are what made Francis his channel
Couldn't agree with you more 👌👌👌
@ivarbrouwer197 I've started watching Amy's cycling adventures which gives that on the bike vlogging fix, Francis was the OG though and I'll always lap up his riding content.
Agreed! Travel Francis is best Francis!
Yeah, i honestly stopped watching until this!
Nice to meet you Cade.. thanks for visiting us in store.. have a great day in Malaysia

You're all mad riding in that heat.
Can't wait for the rest of your adventure.

What is a better season to visit?
You must have heard the saying about mad dogs and Englishmen
@@Frostbikerit's cooler between May and September, also dry
Me and my friend did a ride around Bali and rode from sunrise to sundown on our first and second day, in September 2023. It was well hot then...
@@antoniusarmandI said it was cooler, not cool. Especially after 11:30 up to 16:30

Bloody hell, this is the best thing I’ve seen on UA-cam in months. Can’t wait for the rest of this.
Finally, the channel has returned to the reason we subscribe 👏
I remember, being a bike enthusiast myself in Europe, moving to Singapore. Took my bicycle out for a spin around Singapore island the second day. Did a 85km tour.

So glad the travel vlogs are back! This is peak Francis Cade content
I love these bikepacking vlogs. More please
This video is pretty much how I feel biking here daily. My advice, avoid the sun as much as you can. Ride early, before sunrise and ride late, after sunset. And drink way more than you need.
these bikepacking videos are always the greatest, can't wait to virtually go along on this adventure with you guys
Really nice to see Lawrence back on the channel.
Yes!!! Love your bikepacking adventures, pumped for this new one.
Finally, bikepacking vlogs are back! Can't wait for the next episode!
The King is back!!!🎉 no one makes cycling vlogs like you mate, literally on another level ❤
Been way too long since I’ve heard you say you love cycling. Pumped for the week ahead! Enjoy lads.
I missed the vlogs soo much.
Iam really interested on how these ?combo" brakes will keep up.

Delighted to see this type of content. Studio talk can be interesting enough but this is what people who ride love to see.
Im so glad you’re doing an adventure again! Joint the channel during the first trip with James
The toothbrush just tipped it for me! Pure dead magic!
scorching weather now.. please keep hydrated guys!!

As someone from SEA, I'd wear a long sleeved shirt to cover from the heat. Not aero, but I'd take that than the heat.
Monton long sleeve summer jerseys.
Epic so glad your doing bike packing vids again
Can’t wait to spend every second with these two 🍋
Assume Garmin has just auto gone to litres for sweat loss then the std ml 😂 scenery looks stunning though
I have missed these bikepacking adventures
The climb you guys did is typically done on mountain bikes with 50T dinner plate cog at the rear.

Love it! You guys rock. Road trips are worth living for!
Great to have folks back on a road trip ! 👏👏👏. Heat. Humidity. Trials. Tribulations. Mint !
Love CM,and just finished the US trip series ,I'm well looking forward to this week, also just watched Bens vlog, first class guys. You 3 stay safe.

This channel was built off the back of videos like this. Just great stuff. Much better than the weekly cycling gossip

Thank you for taking this Yank lady along. looks like great fun.
great to see you back on a bike backing trip.
I can feel the real Cades Vibes - 🎉🎉🎉
welcome to Malaysia! enjoy your stay. and also, drink lots of 100plus. it is similar to pocari sweat, but tastier.

The contrast in intensity between Ben and Lawrence makes everything more hilarious

Exactly my point to ditch the puffer jacket on the introductory video. Welcome to Malaysia mate!

I’m only 30 seconds in and this already looks like an awesome Top Gear/Grand Tour style special!
Loving this! 👌🏻
Good stuff Francis, Ben and Laurence.
The best of luck with this trip ☘️☘️☘️
What a video. The adventures are back! Love to see it.
Love it! As usual Lawrence is hilarious. Highly entertaining guys, thank you!
My goodness u guys actually brought the puff jacket !!
Welcome to Penang! That steep climb is near the Ayer Itam dam..
Excellent. Such great content. You three are entertaining as hell. Can’t tell you how much I enjoyed my 50F ride this morning after watching this.
Love the vlogs, I enjoy the new parts of the channel as well, but it’s great to see some Vlogs back, just a messy boys trip. Awesome.
What a great trip, guys! 👏 🔥
Finaly, A PROJECT ❤ big support and massive like 👍🏻👍🏻
100 plus , 100 plus , 100 plus. Nuff said
Great to see just like the good old days !
6:42 made me laugh out loud. Good job guys what a ride
YES!!! So excited to watch this
I'm super happy to see you out, but totally feel for you with the climate and hills. I am now in the ozarks...either up or down
I’m happy you’re doing a trip!!
Welcome to Malaysia! Hope you have a great journey here
Huzzah for Francis Vlogs, and added bonus having Ben along for the (literal) ride!
I love the group dynamics.
You can do ittttttt!!!! I'm rooting for you so you can't lost. This ride looks so beautiful. =)
So pumped for this series!
brilliant, also if you are able to, ride out as early as 4am~5am, intense heat in the 10am to mid afternoon.
that's how most ride in se asia.
Top content as per usual, I feel sweaty just watching this! Enjoy the trip.
This is brilliant, looking forward to following along in this ✌️
Awesome start. Got some characters on the ride with you haha. Wicked stuff
"Is he doing a sprint?!" 😂
Greeting from Japan - summer heat here can be as killing as in Malaysia)
Thanks for the return of vlogs!
Damn. Missed these proper cycling vlogs. Been too long.
Don’t forget that lots of riders do audexes in Malaysia during this season.
Mistake one would be you folks riding without arm socks, and wearing dark coloured jerseys.
Fun to watch. I hope you're having fun. I *think* so.
This is what we want back from the channel. I miss the pre-Cade Media era.
loving this series! thanks for sharing!!!
Day 1 Brutal …. How I’ve missed these adventures 😂😂😂😂👍
im loving the bikevlog so far! looking forward to more! love from Malaysia 🇲🇾💕
Everything is part of the adventure!
Bloody brilliant ! Thank you 🙏
Been looking forward to this since the last adventure...
Love it. Been missing the travel ride videos. But to go from England in winter to Malaysia to ride straight off the plane… ugh. 😅🤪. And seeing Francis hit a wall makes us all feel the heat. Keep it up
Good luck lads!
