I've always thought that grandmother willow was Pocahontas' actual grandmother but her spirit just took life in a tree after dying.
Some here just like in lion king when mufasa became clouds
That's funny because I always assumed she was an actual ancestor and I never thought about it too much. But I love how you put everything in places by asking and answering questions I never had :D
Thanks Maria-Matilda! I guess a lot of people had this same thought, but I never questioned it growing up! Like, it’s a Disney movie, everything takes! 😆
The real Pocahontas met John Smith again when she was taken by John Rolfe to London to marry him (how willingly she went I'm not sure). She heard about his lies when she was there and when she met him she was pissed off.
And then Disney wildly changed the story again from the lies on which it was based, which largely made it even more offensive to Pocahontas' tribe.
She also died tragically young.
Also weeping willow trees arent even native to america! They were brought from china as an ornamental plant... the only willows that are native just look like large shrubs and dont have a weeping habit.... almost everything in this movie is innacurate
This theory is amazing! It’s original(from what I know), creative, and you clearly put a lot of work into each and every one of your theories. I completely agree with this theory, along with a lot of your other ones. Keep up the great work!
Aww thank you sweetie! I always think I’m original, but I don’t often go looking for other theories to verify if I am or not. 😂 💕 ya!
Ya know...I never thought of Grandmother Willow as a tree spirit. I always thought of her as a reincarnation of her grandmother lol.
deep down i think i knew this already :v the whole time i though the tree was a great times x grandma of pocahontas :v
I spent most of my life just going with it and not asking any questions about the talking tree. 😂
If Pocahontas can talk to Grandmother Willow, she should be able to talk to other trees, rock, etc.
Michael Oluwajuyemi she does sing that every rock, tree and creature has a life, spirit and name
Grandmother Willow might be one of Pocahontas' ancestors-
*OH GREAT SPIRITS WHO LIVES BEFORE TAKE OUR HANDS AND LEAD US FILL OUR HEARTS AND SOUL WITH ALL YOU KNOW*
brother bear?
Pocahontas was one of my favourite Disney movies and this helped my love for this Movie well not the historical version...yeah let’s not talk about...
😂 I had a history professor that called Pocahontas an abomination! He said by the 10 minute mark he broke the tv from throwing the remote at it. I thought it was pretty! 🤣
It must have been something🤣👍
LMAO the Grandma is Funny when she yelled at the animals to be quiet
I never thought of grandmother willow as anything else than Pocahontas actual grandmother or ancestor
Grandmother willow was probably the great great great grandmother of Pocahontas her spirit stayed behind to guild her people and tribe giving them wise advice.
I tend to steer clear of things related to this movie because I HATE this movie for the reason a lot of people did, but I really enjoyed this theory! You do amazing work!!
Thank you Erica! It's beautifully animated, but there are issues with the story (not just historically speaking, either), and I always hate that Disney promotes John Smith as being paired with her when, by THEIR OWN MOVIES, she ended up with John Rolfe. >.< If you're going to do base a movie off of real people, and be totally off the wall inaccurate, at least be consistent with what you throw out there!
Fascinating! Not only the willow tree’s meaning in Native Americans culture, but willow trees are also known in European mythology to be associated with death and are seen as conduits for the souls of the dead. It’s following the same theme as the willow tree in the Grimm Brother’s rendition of Cinderella in which the willow tree produces her ball gowns and the willow tree found in the Disney Cinderella movie looming over the bench where Cinderella cries before being greeted by a fairy godmother
grandmother willow is my grandma. She already told me she will talk to me thru a specific willow tree
Either yesterday or a few days ago I had colors of the wind stuck in my head. I almost always have Disney songs stuck in my head because I love Disney and I listen to Disney songs a lot
Oh. I just always assumed that grandma willow was really her grandmother. I haven't watched the movie recently so I don't remember any other explanations.
This is such a lovely theory to think about and made me want to watch the movie again :)
It’s never a bad time for a Disney movie! 😊
I love your videos!❤️❤️
Aww, thanks Camryn!
i love your videos so much because they are so thought out and they are not confusing like most theory’s i watch lol
Hello! I think this theory is very plausible. Pocahontas having a trusted ancestor to talk to is very touching.
I had always thought that grandma Willow was special in a way! Great video, as always! I love you! 💗
I love you too!
Awesome vid. I am was actually making a Pocahontas video for my channel the second when you posted this. I love your channel
I’ve had this one written for a while, but Halloween got in the way! Pocahontas is one of the most beautiful animations from Disney, but there’s so little wiggle room to theorize on!
The Fangirl this is a perfect time to upload with thanksgiving coming up.🦃
I made it too the end.
It was a good video, & you're right, no one talks about Pocahontas. Congratulations on being the first! :D
Thank you (assuming I am the first and didn’t miss someone). I’ve seen this movie so many times and it took forever to find a theory to cling onto. 😆
I Love Pocahontas! Great Theory! 😍✨
Yay! I’m so happy you liked it!
When I read the title of the theory, before watching the video, I thought:
wait, did no one else assume her grandmother’s spirit became “one with nature” when she died? No?
It was also mentioned in an old Chinese folktale! Where all animals and people got along in harmony by a ...WILLOW tree !
I...wasn't planned on being disturbed today
Actually, the turkey was cut because John Candy died.
I always thought Grandmother Willow was the spirit of Pocahontas' actual grandmother.
i always thought it would be funny if grandma willow fell and what a huge slam it would make
Love how Mulan and Pocahontas where not Disney princesses
So Grandmother Willow was a person who died and then revived into a tree. Interesting. Why didn't they say it in the actual story of Pocahontas?
It’s a pretty short movie and I’m not sure a B plot with the tree was a top priority for them. 😂
Oh. I'm 29 and I have always thought it really was a grandmother of hers.
So neat to see a Pocahontas theory! Oddly enough, that was exactly what I thought as a kid, that she really is(or was) her grandmother. Speaking of grandparents...
I recently saw Spirited Away and wondered if you have any theories on Kamaji, the boiler guy. Mostly since he calls Chihiro his granddaughter. And he says it in both English and Japanese versions! Why? He probably doesn't need to do that, but he did! Any thoughts?
I always thought it was because he was protecting chihiro from that one girl that saw her there.
Lin? The one who likes her almost immediately after she joins? Maybe, but but he could have said niece or friend or something else too... Or I'm just overthinking it. XD
Lin! That's her name. That movie is full of questions and theories. Maybe chihiro looked like his grand daughter when he was alive. Now I wanna go watch it again lol
It really is, which is fun though. :D Maybe! Or maybe he really is an ancestor of hers?? Though your idea seems more plausible.
Willow trees main way of reproducing are from cuttings (broken off branches) they EASILY root. If their was mother tree somewhere around, this could have been it’s branch baby. Or like mentioned the Indians could have stuck a willow branch in the ground by Pocahontas’ mother’s grave. Either was, very realistic... kinda
No Pocahontas is saying that all things have a life and a spirit not that she can actually talk and communicate with them
Wotso videos mentioned you in one of his recent frozen theory. Grandma willow reminds me of moanas grandmother.
Did he? Yay! 😁 Isaac is too nice! Or, at least, I hope he is and that he didn’t say something unkind. 😳
Maybe Pocahonta’s necklace is enchanted with the ability to talk to grandmother Willow
She is my favourite character from Pocahontas.
Yeah those spirit animistic Shamanistic spell casters and cursers did a big alternative for her.
Can I just say thank you for going over the fact the movie was based on the English legend and not history? I know the movie was highly controversial, but I get so tired of people getting up in arms about the inaccuracies and forgetting that most of what Disney does is interpretations of known stories. Was it smart to do one that's based on real people and ignore any and all help offered to them to keep it from being disrespectful? No. But there's a lot more to be argued about the final product than historical inaccuracies when history wasn't even in the drawing board.
That said, it's a real shame the movie doesn't come up more often cause even if the story is somewhat bland, the music is absolutely gorgeous. When I was little I liked to put it on sometimes while I did other things just for the soundtrack.
Nice theory, btw, I rather enjoy when you start bringing in research and mix it with the in-verse facts to make sense of things.
I thought this was a fact, not up for debate lol. The whole time I knew it was her real grandma's spirit
Not only did I make it to the end but I finished your Coraline video several times over big big fan think you’re awesome and thought I’d go and watch yourself from the beginning I love your stuff so much that shows or movies I’ve never seen I still watch what you say about them!
Thank you so much for being here like ALL THE TIME Katie! I see you around even when I don't have enough time to comment and it means a lot. Love ya! 💕
Hey
4:34 made me crack up, lol
Why did Grandmother Willow say that Kocoum was so serious?
My great great great great grandfather was a tree his name is Harold
Great theory! I don't think I've watched this movie since junior high.
Grandmother willow looks like my granny....like a lot!
Upvoted because I love talk about Pocanhontas!
Also, according to the storybooks, Pocahontas's father does know about Grandmother Willow.
I read that too
I love you but i thought this was obvious but i am going by the tittle
Edit to clarify I’m only like a minute in
And..? Still obvious? 😢
No not like that i mean i thought it was supposed to be her ancestor like she died and got reincarnated (if thats the right word ) into a tree
I mean offensive to you because i love your vides 😁
I agree with Harley. But I enjoyed how you put this all together and clarified some things I know I would have missed. Still gave this video a thumbs up Fangirl😉👍
Willow is an ancestor
I love Pocahontas!!!
I love you for this! I have always wondered about Grandmother Willow.
Made it to the end! I always wondered about Grandmother Willow.
Omg I love this theory can you please do more Pocahontas theories ?🖤
Oh I just love Disney :)
Even seeing this as a child I actually assumed she was a dead ancestor right from the get-go.
I got a theory for a future video, unless you already did it in which case sorry, why do the wolves in beauty and the beast like to hang around the castle when they got a whole forrest to roam? Could they be cursed staff members meant to protect the castle. But they wild quicker than the beast did because they were living out in the woods
I agree that Grandmother Willow is a descent of Pocahontas!
Great video! 😀👍
Thanks Simon!

Thank you! Love your videos! ♥️
This was a great theory! I’ve always wanted to see a Pocahontas theory!
Natives are animistic meaning they believe all things have a spirit . And they are all connected in a collective consciousness on some transcendentalist kinda thing and they learn how to communicate with everything around them but certain people will have certain “spirit guides “ which will introduce them to other guides . She has her animal guides and trees are seen as a grandmother figure because of its age and wisdom and connection to the earth through its roots etc. like in colors of the winds she mentions the storm and river are her brothers . They teach her and bestie different gifts and teachings each spirit does
As a person of native American descent I don't agree with this theory. People can have special connections with certain spirits without them being ancestors. Most eastern woodland people believe that after death human spirits move on often following a celestial pathway sometimes represented by the milky way. Most nature spirits were just either helpful or sometimes harmful spirits who were their own entities. You may be right but it is unlikely. Ancestor involvement is more of an Asian thing.
This was a great Theory I've never seen anybody go into great detail on Pocahontas and I love it this was my second favorite Disney movie growing up
What was your first?
@@TheFangirlWatches My first one was Sleeping Beauty
I'm pretty sure John Smith has schizophrenia 😂
I’m doing a debate at school to conclude if Pocahontas was a traitor to her people, or a savior to the English settlers. Can you do a theory anywhere related to what I’ve stated? If so, that could give me a head start. What do you think? Was Pocahontas a traitor or a savior?
Wait, isn't the tree used to be her grandmother oveous, sh'e called grandmother for crying out loud
I absolutely love pocahontas It is my favourite I love colours wind it’s great to see a theory
I always had a feeling Grandmother willow could of been Pocahontas grandmother giving the fact she said your mother said the same thing and the fact they came to the samespot there the willow tree and when Pocahontas grandmother died her spirit went into the tree and became grandmother willow
More like great great great etc grandmother because she had been alive 200 years ago and maybe Pocahontas's mother went to Grandmother Willow who was already a tree for a long time.
I hate to say this, cause I don't know how much love this gets...but I LOVE John Smith and Pocahontas together. I thought they were super cute.♥
°˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖° Love this theory! I love the thought of Grandmother Willow becoming a tree after being buried. ♥ It's beautiful and sad that more I think about it.
How did Grandmother Willow know about Kokoum ?
Nice theory!😁 it explains everything
You stole my fanfiction idea! D:<
Edit: Not really, I didn't write it down yet. But somehow you went inside my head!
Great minds think alike!
@@TheFangirlWatches :3
I always thought she was mother nature
*Grandmother Nature!
That one dislike on the video your a jerk!
Are you going to make final space season 2 theory's
There’s good odds I will after season 2, but I’ll probably be waiting for that to start. 😊
I see what you mean.
Amazing thank you so much for this theory it was very entertaining 🤗🤗🤗
Is Grandmother Willow a Jubokko?
Love this video
I'm so glad you like it!
Did anyone ever stop to think she's using the power Adam and eve had before falling? Maybe she used her 6th sense.. God is the air all around.. it does say native Americans gave thanks for everything.. maybe it was her blessing for understanding..
I love your videos 😍♥️
You're too sweet! Love ya! :D
can you do simba's ancestors
Can you please do a Theory on hans brothers please. I did a video about the scene in the movie frozen I found hans brother. It was cool
I did one lost year that outlined Eric was Hans brother. But no clue on the other 11 yet!
Oh ya I loved that video I totally agree with it. Here's the link to my hans theory video. ua-cam.com/video/3xSqV_O9MKo/v-deo.html (sorry if this sounds pushy or rude)
This theory is great!

Wow, this is interesting
Cool
the plucking is a bit annoying...
The background music? Dully noted. I'm still learning the latest GarageBand, so I'm not quite "there" with what I'm making yet. Thanks for the feedback!

It's my own little inside joke that only a few people can translate it, lol.
