i actually just finished the show's finale before I even saw this skit. i love Scott. i really do wish they make a continuation, not a remake, but continue the show where they left off.
The man playing Donald's father(Mr. Trump) is none other than Vaughn Armstrong whom played the part of Scott Bakula's C/O on Star Trek ENT Commodore(and Admiral) Max Forrest.
I've always wanted a Ziggy case for an iPhone. You can actually ask an iPhone "Hey Ziggy, what's the chance of rain in Tokyo today?" and it answers, because Ziggy sounds similar to Siri.
"Quantum Leap" was one of my FAVORITE shows growing up! Scott Bakula and I are from the same town in St. Louis (Kirkwood) which made watching him on that show even more special to me. This sketch was awesome! Only thing that could have possibly made it any better would have been Sam saying, "Oh boy!"
Oh my god, I'M FREAKING CRYING. Quantum Leap was my first major fandom and still holds a very special place in my heart. It was so great to see Scott as Sam again, even if it was just a parody. WELL DONE, STEPHEN AND SCOTT!!!
Nah, he can go home whenever he wants to! (Like the God-Bartender explained to him.) It's just that Sam is such an enormously good guy that he would rather spend eternity making people's lives better than going home and having a life of his own.
In any other sketch like that I'd agree but it appears like Bakula, who I was a huge fan of, is just another Hollywood never-Trump leftie. I'm going to go break all my QL DVDs now.
@Hansy What narrative? The one that he creates himself by his actions? Anybody who is interested can look up Trump's actions for themselves instead of just blinding watching and following Fox News. Trump's record before and after he entered the White House speaks for itself.
NBC pulled the plug on short notice and the final episode was originally a simple season final, complete with a cliffhanger for season 6. When NBC did pull the plug, the entire episode had already been shot and had to be totally re-cut to make for a series ending.
tlatosmd Still doesn't explain why it ended so grimly. The obvious ending would be to say that Dr. Beckett went home for his sabbatical, as promised, before beginning his new series of leaps. "Never returned home...?"
I would absolutely LOVE to see a sequel serie with Scott Bakula.... like finding him again after 25 years he spent changing history, as he could never go back home...
Seriously this show still holds up today. I’ve been watching them all and cause of the time travel it’s timeless please please bring it back and with the ending they had they could easily do that.
Kitsuyuutsu R. Your delusional, this skit is the worst thing I've ever seen and Steven Colbert is not the least bit funny! They are laughing, because it's so bad and they have to muddle their way through it!
I gotta respect that kids composure! sitting in the back while that exchange is going on... it couldn't have been easy to keep a straight face the whole time...
Me and my mom started watching it together on school nights to wind down before going to bed last year, and eventually it became a whole family thing with even my brother coming out of his room to watch it. I obsessed over it the most (like i do with everything😂) and even made the theme song my ringtone for a while 😂
commdorvis: "Yeah, this is why Starfleet doesn't like time travel" Unless it's to save an extinct species while saving the entire planet at the same time.
I love him breaking character and laughing a few times great lil skit there.I got to meet Scott Bakula on the streets of BYC and I think he was with his wife usually I see a lot of actors and a lot in the city but never go up to them but Saying hello and all that was great he was so nice and took a few mins out to BS nice guy and he just is great in everything he does.
Mike Kingsbury Actually it lasted 4 seasons but was cancelled. It's a shame really. I mean Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: DS9 and Star Trek: TNG all had 7 seasons each.
I met Scott at a convention in 2013 when i was a teen. It was when I first heard about Quantum leap through my mom. I walked up to his booth to talk to him and he expected me to start talking about Star Trek but he was so surprised and laughed that a kid was gushing over Quantum Leap in 2013. He was so ridiculously nice.
I didn’t watch the show when it originally aired. Now I’m catching up and loving it! I’ve seen around fifty episodes so far. Of all the ones I’ve seen so far. Private Dancer is my favorite. What a touching episode!
The wrong part of that episode was that Fred was actually caring for one of his kids like a father. Fred was just as, if not worse of a parent than Donny.
I like Dean Stockwell, too. However, if you want a unique viewing experience, look for a movie titled "She Came to the Valley" or "Texas in Flames." It defies description beyond "worst movie I've ever seen."
qhsperson I HAVE seen it. And, like everything he's ever done in his seven-decade-long career, Dean gave his all. By the way, this wasn't a slam at you or, for that matter, the video you uploaded. In fact, I "Liked" it. I just thought that was rotten and, unfortunately, it's not the first time I've seen this disturbing trend where Dean is concerned.
Dean's Girl I didn't upload the video, and I didn't take your comment as a slam. That movie is what happens when all the talent is in front of the camera and none of it behind the camera.
***** You've gotta love that, in the episode "Detained," they gave Dean a hand held unit to play with! He mentioned, during an interview (which I can't find... Bummer), that he had to fight like hell to keep from slapping it! >.
Nah, they'd completely wreck it these days. They'd make it too sci-fi, have him try to kill Hitler or leap into the future or something naff like that, and Al would become a lesbian.
@tlatosmd I've been hearing that since the show went off air. I'd dearly love it to happen, but I think at this point (like the Babylon 5 movie) its just not going to happen.
Also, if you've noticed it says 'new episodes' on Netflix for Quantum Leap, actually they just finally got around to adding the pilot episode and the 2 parter where Sam leaps into Lee Harvey Oswald (end of se.4-start of se.5), just a FYI for the fans :D I wish it would come back, the series finale sucked (last line on the screen was "Sam never returned home") they hastily put it together cuz it got canceled last minute, oh well. Thanks for this Colbert!
I love Quantum Leap. I’m rewatching the show as I write this (2022). Scott Bakula had so much charisma and charm on that show. Him and Dean stockwell had great chemistry. I recently watched the 2022 Quantum Leap and it was missing the charm and charisma that the original had.
Boy, do I REALLY miss "Quantum Leap" so much. I blame NBC for cancelling that show when it had a lot of great potential. Instead, the goddamn network allowed godawful shows like "Seinfeld," "Frasier," "Cheers," and "ER" to have longevity. I think "Quantum Leap" deserves a serious comeback.
As much as I love the original show, they're just too old to continue it. I could handle a remake, so long as they didn't use it to push political correctness like most shows now. There's episodes from the original run, which would never get made now because they either (1) weren't very brazen, or (2) actually supported classic values like patriotism and honoring God. Some episodes were crass, sure...but there was a balance between both sides thanks to Don Bellasario. Too many folks now are scared as hell, not wanting to "offend" anybody even by accident. The original show mostly avoided that crap.
Cliff Sheets Definitely one of the show's most controversial episodes, but I think Al had a point. Most men on a battlefield want to know their fellow soldiers are bent on protecting them, not propositioning them.
Wait, if Scott was driving the car, and he warped out with Steven and left Donald in the back seat, then shouldn't Donald have died in a horrible car accident as a kid?
there would be nothing to stop a new series of Quantum Leap, as Sam decided to carry on 'Leaping' at the end of the original show. This was a brilliant, original and intelligently written series.

yeah maybe one where a friend of Dr. Beckett's who's a dedicated bachelor takes over the leaping in exchange for Dr. Beckett going home to his wife (IMO the leaping should be done by someone with no family ties)

I was a huge fan of Quantum Leap back in the day. I'm surprised the show hasn't in some form since its cancellation. Seriously, everything else has been revived but QL is still on ice?
Even *if* QL was to be re-launched again, I'm pretty sure it would be ruined by things like ultra-feminist agendas and/or SJWs. It would get a ton of hate for not portraying historical events (politically) correct or for being biased towards any given political view. Wanna create a cold-war love story between an American and a Russian? Boom! Suddenly the network receives a backlash for... I don't know, portraying Russians and communism in a positive way. Or for not featuring enough blacks/asians/hispanics in Russia etc - take your pick. Or people will read things into the episodes that shouldn't even be issues. We live in a time where everyone is offended by the tiniest things. And thanks to social media, things are ruined for the rest of us.
They have to bring this show back. In the show, Sam is still left to continue Leaping. A good premise for the show would be for someone else to start Leaping to find Sam and bring him home.
Thing is, Al never even needed the handlink for Sam to travel through time. The handlink was only to communicate with Ziggy and give her basic commands.
I don't know why.. But i am suddenly imagining Jon Stewart sitting with his fist in the air, his other hand around it saying. "I knew it. Damn you Bakula".. :)
At the end there, wasn't that Scott BARKula??? It's ok. I'll see myself out. ***grabs top hat and cane, whistles a happy tune, twirls the cane and struts to the tune while exiting***
I grew up watching Quantum Leap. Canceled because people would rather watch NYPD Blue or whatever other procedural show was big in the early 90s. It’s too bad. Quantum Leap was the most original show for its time. I highly recommend Source Code for those who loved this series. Very similar to QL, and Scott Bakula plays the father (albeit uncredited).
NBC needs to do a movie to close out this show. They should have Sam leap into his own body just before he steps into the excelrator, to correct his mistake. End the show with Sam returning home.
My late wife seriously loved this show and we used to marathon it on dvd like crazy. I miss my wife and I miss watching this show with her, Oh Boy!
Sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss. It was a great show, and my husband and I also enjoy it now on Netflix. :-)
Sorry for your loss. Love this show!

I want to see the QL movie with the original cast that Bellisario keeps working on.
They're on NBC's website
Unfortunately they waited too long. I doubt Dean Stockwell is in any shape to return to acting.
What a legend of a actor Dean Stockwell, and will be truly miss but he will live on helping Dr Sam Beckett find his way home. Be it on earth or above.
I actually miss Dean more here considering Colbert's bad acting. 😆
in the words of Dr. Sam Beckett: "Oh boy!"
fix the future. tell trump we need 8 years to end the dem corruption.
wise, wise words
How could they not get Scott to say "Oh boy!".. Missed opportunity!
The man playing Donald's father(Mr. Trump) is none other than Vaughn Armstrong whom played the part of Scott Bakula's C/O on Star Trek ENT Commodore(and Admiral) Max Forrest.
I love how the kid keeps a calm demeanor throughout the whole skit, but Scott and Stephen are cracking up.

Sam Beckett jumps into Capt Archer in 1942, where he finds Nazi Germany occupying the Eastern United States. It is up to Sam to set things straight.

They have to bring this show back. In the show, Sam is still left to continue Leaping. A good premise for the show would be for someone else to start Leaping to find Sam and bring him home.
Someone predicted the future
Colbert's Handlink looks like its made of see through multi-colored Lego's
Well, Stockwell's wasn't much different.
Thing is, Al never even needed the handlink for Sam to travel through time. The handlink was only to communicate with Ziggy and give her basic commands.
Watched the show again, still as good as back then.
This was funny. I wish Dean Stockwell was in it as well.
I think Scott messing up made it even more hilarous. ha ha!
I don't know why.. But i am suddenly imagining Jon Stewart sitting with his fist in the air, his other hand around it saying. "I knew it. Damn you Bakula".. :)
Thank you Dr. Beckett!
this is funny stuff and scott looks great. I AM STILL WAITING SCOTT for the quantum leap reunion movie but until then this works
My favorite. Love you Scott 💓
So talented. A show like no other.
Another reason why Sam Beckett i good. He stopped Hillary from becoming president.
Dominick Stewart too bad he couldnt stop that killary bitch from being born
At the end there, wasn't that Scott BARKula???
It's ok. I'll see myself out.
