One helpful tip when it comes to the lists - I felt a bit overwhelmed like I would definitely forget something so I wrote and highlighted “Any items can be added to the “wish list” and become eligible after x amount of time.” So I have a wish list if I’m having a want/need, I’ll add the item and then if I still want it after xyz then I can purchase.
This is a great tip for impulse shoppers! I see things and get influenced too easily, and writing them down has helped me realized I didn’t actually want or need it after all once hours or days have gone by.
Same! I have a table on my Notion site where I can add something and it needs to stay for 30 days. I also make a justification for it so I'm not just buying things because they're pretty or seem cool.
I’m not doing a no buy but definitely trying to do a low buy. I’m a mom of two and buying things happens for many reasons but I love this movement. My word for the year is enough. I have enough and I am enough. Enough is enough. ❤
TIP: Every time you want to spend possibly “trade” with yourself. If it’s a $25 item, drink 25 ounces of water or walk 25 min or give something away that is valued at $25. In a consumeristic world we must come back to recognizing cost, sacrifice and value. Maybe that help someone. Excited to see how this journey goes for you and those commenting. I’m being more diligent this year with tracking purchases and did create my Green, Yellow & Red Light list. One thing I’m allowing for myself each month is my monthly sticker set fromThe Rosey Life Planner. My budget each month is pretty low in general. And this will be a treat I look forward to receive each mid-month in the mail. 🤗 Melissa
I did this 2 years ago. Every time I wanted to buy I took that money and started saving. I got myself excited about the money I was putting aside and that kept me motivated. I decided to do the same this year. Happy to see this video ❤
Another idea for how to fill your time is volunteering! I volunteer at my local animal shelter by taking care of the cats at Petco in my town one night a week. It's an hour of my time that is really fulfilling & a great way to make memories without spending money. Added bonus that I'm giving back rather than taking. Extra added bonus that I meet tons of cats
I’m in! Though at the grocery store earlier today I nearly bought some makeup concealer to take the redness out of my face complexion and then I remembered! No Buy! And I’ve lived decades without it, I rarely wear makeup at all anymore. Why was I even looking at it!!! An influencer! 😂😂😂. And already decided not to buy the suggested $40 tube but here I was considering the $9 one! Nope. Not necessary! Everyone will have to look at my pink cheeks and be glad or sad or mad. It’s not my business what others think of me. I also passed on lunch out with friends today after our First Day Hike at the local state park. I’ll enjoy meals out for special occasions or when out of town but I knew I could make something for myself that was tastier and healthier and would cost less. Looking forward to your videos! Thanks a million for starting this so we can follow along!!
I am a shopaholic and I stumbled upon your channel, I had no idea what low buy or no buy year meant, I am so happy I did. My struggles are Amazon and eating out. I am going to attempt to do a low buy year and I already made a list of all the purchases I am "allowing" myself to have and all the items I am not. I am about to make big purchases this year in terms of moving out, leasing or buying a car, and buying furniture. So....thank you so much for your videos and I hope to stick to this....I am also going to attempt my minimalism journey.. I have always had so much stuff and I feel like I am always cleaning up my space...So, I cannot wait to have...items that only bring me joy, peace, happiness etc.
I’m really excited about my “no spend challenge” so I wanted to share something I thought was funny: I am a known spender and am also an emotional shopper. Since the beginning of December I was telling everyone how my no spend challenge was gonna be so successful and super fun. They laughed it off only taking me half seriously. I’ve spent a lot of time mentally and physically preparing myself to really commit to the challenge in the New Year and once I’m finally feeling confident, my phone gets stolen on December 30th and the person who took my phone drained my accounts. My first big purchase of the year will be spending $1000 on a new phone and it’s necessary accessories. Funny enough tho, I’m not too upset 😂 I’ve been laughing it off because truly there’s nothing I can do to change it. The money will be replaced by the bank, I am alive and well, and my new year started off with a bang! No matter what, the challenge will still be fun for me and I’m gonna make the most of it! Wishing everyone luck on their own challenge! We will be successful this year!!!! ❤
I'm so sorry that happened to you, but so glad that you were able to have such a positive outlook!!! realizing that there's only so much we van control is a HUGE part of the battle. wishing you a happy + healthy new year!!! 💗
After I took stock of my spending last year, I definitely was spending more on clothes and random STUFF than I thought I was. This year, I have some rules set up to spend money on activities and food with friends rather than all the THINGS I think I need. Good luck this year, everyone!
Woohoo! Let's go! I've officially started and today spent just £3 on some ice-cream to take to a family new year's dinner. That fits on my allowed list of groceries. Managed to swerve the first impulse of stopping somewhere for a coffee shop. Had coffee at home instead. Win!
I knew I was heading into a no/low buy year, so over the Christmas break I talked myself out of some luxury tea (I don't even drink tea! But we were at a fancy tea and spice shop and I was inspired to Become a Tea Drinker). The only thing I've spent money on besides groceries this year so far is a half hour massage I forgot to cancel in time and I would have been charged half the cost if I cancelled late, so I just went.
My bf is SUPER frugal, so shopping with him makes me more aware of what I'm buying, for some reason. Usually I spend $130 on groceries (every week) when I go alone... Today I took him with me and spent $75 😊
Hi, I found your channel only recently and basically binge watched all you videos while doing my cleaning and organising. I came back from four months of travelling, and it was really good to hold every single item that I own in my hand again, and really decide if I want to keep it and it has been so fun watching your videos alongside this process. The way you share is so authentic and casual it actually really motivates me to start my own UA-cam channel talking about what I’m passionate about. I don’t have too much to declutter anymore ( 90% of my stuff literally fits into one shelf from IKEA, the rest is clothes) and I live in my van in the Canary Islands half of the year so I already have this pretty basic simple minimalist, hippie kind of lifestyle, but I want to join in on the no buy year anyway. For me, I prefer to call it conscious spending year :) my intentions are to have a clear overview on what I’m spending, and what I’m earning. To save most of my earnings and also to stop impulse buying, especially buying out of a feeling of need or lack of self-worth. So on my red list is: no freaking online courses anymore!! and then since I already have my soap for the year, I actually only allow myself to buy from the farmers market, and the only stuff I can buy from a supermarket is fruits and veg they dont have at the farmers market, cashew butter, toilet paper and bags for the trash lol. No online shopping. on my yellow list is items that might break within the year. It’s yellow because I really want to consciously decide if I really need to replace this item or even maybe if I could fix it and then also - kind of similar to your approach- I wrote down some nice things I want to do this year like a concert, one yoga festival , one surprise event (like one thing that I don’t know I will stumble upon this year but that I really feel the call to do), one trip and buying myself some shoes that I wanted to have for 3 years, and that then will replace my only other pair of summer shoes. I see this sharing as my commitment for following this :) So yeah that’s my example of the no buy year. I am really excited to follow along your journey and watch all the updates. I also got your first mail from you today, its so cool :) thank you for being and four sharing on here
Day 3 and I’m finding it not bad. Every time I’ve had a thought to buy something I’m like, NOPE, I’m on the no buy. I have looked around my house for what I could use instead. So far so good. I’m only allowed to spend the money my parents gave me for Christmas on myself this year so I’m just holding on to that for when I really want something. I have some debt that I’m badly wanting to get rid of this year.
I’m so excited that this is so important for you! I cannot imagine needing anything, but this is only day 1. Honestly, my weakness is bookish, and I’ve already had an, “Oh, I should get that book,” moment. Yikes! Good luck to all participating.
@gracenevitt I need to see what my library offers for ebooks and regular books. We moved back in September 2023, and I am still learning and exploring my new area.
I'm so excited to be joining your no buy year! 🎉 It's the first time for me and I feel a bit anxious if I can make it but I'm so comitted to it and it feels great to have someone by my side virtually. It feels like we can make it as a community on your channel and that is so powerful and cheering me on. Thank you for that! ❤
I'm a minimalist for 4 years now. Although I only buy second hand and not that often I'm starting a no buy especially books and clothes. Tattoos and piercings are allowed, wool is allowed (but only for one specific item I want to make) because a goal of mine is to learn to crochet this year and events/ tickets are allowed.
Thanks to you I was able to be honest with myself. You mentioned in your video with your initial lists that you would let yourself get things for home improvement, but that it had to be immediate, not "Oh yeah I'll get to painting this room, let me buy 4 gallons of paint and tuck it away to use it later". Because of that, I'm allowing myself to buy organizational materials for spaces as go through and declutter and organize little by little. Not a ton of stuff but only what I need to get that space organized to peak functionality. Already it's working great for me since I've been trying out my low-buy year rules for the last few weeks now! Love your content Grace Edit: my current project is organizing and decluttering our disaster hall closet. One shelf down and I just ordered baskets to contain the next shelf that needs work. Currently we have sheets and towels and rags all falling over eachother on that shelf. Also found some white paint in our basement that was still usable to do some touch ups on the baseboards and doors in the sun room instead of buying new paint and brushes so that's a win. I'm on low buy rules for anyone curious
Day one of the challenge and my mind was throwing all sorts of silly things form me to buy, and I was like wait wtf, stop! I kept buying things before I run out of the current things I have, and buy things that I think are going to fix some part of my life. Preparing for it in December has been really freeing and I have decluttered so many things, so it’s a win already 😊 Thank you Grace, I look forward to seeing your journey too!
Grace's Tips: - it's okay to add things as you go, but try to avoid it! - always think about your WHY - what is your goal through this challenge? - have a place to let out and process the feelings that come up (journal, notes app etc) - do some research into the scarcity mindset (the belief that one has limited resources or is unable to provide for themselves or others) - create a list of free or low cost activities you can do (skating, reading from the library, board games, hiking, free museums, a tea party, baking or cooking, bring snacks to the movies etc) - remember that every purchase is a choice. create a barrier to access these situations We've got this!!
i look another commenters advice at the end of november to start now, so that you can get experience and learn before the year starts, SO I DID!!! I have always thought about and tried and quit MANY no buys in the past and this commentor and your video helped me. And i did amazing in December, so feeling much much MUCH more confident and comfortable today. we got this!!
Wish you the best in your no buy year! I’m trying to not buy any clothes or accessories this year. And trying to minimize purchasing video games (my weakness lol) to only ones I want to play immediately. Your videos inspire me!
Hi Grace, what a great start to your No Buy Year! I wish you all the best. I really enjoy your channel and the way you approach things. Following your video about the books you read in 2023 I made a list of some that I liked the sound of, many of which were not the sorts of books I'd usually choose or encounter. I have just started 'Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow' and it has hooked me in already. I'm currently on a summer camping holiday at the beach and I've passed your list onto a couple of my camping friends who are also enthusiastic about exploring new genres. Thank you!
Im excited about this challenge to stop over spending on craft supplies. I have enough to craft with all year. Im a paper hoarder, so this is going to be tough when a new paper pad comes out. Im trying to save more for retirement. I love all of your support❤ thanks
Idea: use some of your cute paper to make some cash envelopes, cards, and gift card holders, for future gifts. Lots of fun and you actually use it up and not spend anything. I did this a year ago during a no spend. When busy creating, I never thought about spending/shopping. It made it very fun!
I'm starting with a no-buy January, since I've never done a "no buy" anything, but I'm excited! I even got my girlfriend and 2 of my other friends to do it with me. your green/yellow/red lists from your prep video were SO helpful
I’m readyyyyy! I’m on a no buy and also doing a 100 envelope challenge. Instead of using cash, I pull an envelope and put that amount into my high yield savings account
Something super helpful that Iv stared doing was to take a photo of the item. I told myself I wasn’t going to purchase any new Christmas decor until I put my current decor up and I saw some things I would have bought while browsing. I took photos of the items and thought about if they are still on sale at the end of the season I’ll purchase them (if I still really wanted them) turns out the impulse feeling went away and while I would still love to own those, there will always be something I’ll want from the store! Taking photos works!!!
For those of you who like reading/buying books: whenever you feel the urge to buy a really nice new book or just spend in general, go to the library and pick up some books. Even if you only read one of them or even none, you can bring them back after a few weeks but you satisfied the need of getting something new at your home. After a few weeks the high over the new stuff is over anyways and you can bring them back :)
A way I am combating trying to a no buy and still working towards minimalism with a capsule wardrobe. If I find something to purchase (that is sustainable and on my wish list), I purchase , however, 10 items must be removed for me to bring it in. This is super easy with my clothing situation, as have way too many clothes. I am working towards 5 clothing items a day for January and February. I will revisit at the end of February. Due to my job and health (autoimmune disease), a large clean-out all at one time was not feasible for me. This was the way I could effectively make it work.
I am in! Thanks for your inspiration. Your voice and message are so encouraging. I am excited to see what we all learn about ourselves while stepping away from shopping behaviors!
I’m doing a low buy year but I think I’ll try a few no buy months thrown in there. I’ve been un subscribing from shopping texts and emails as they come in. I’m also decluttering my home. I’ll never be a minimalist but I still have SO much stuff. I want more travel and experiences.
I'm doing a no buy to help me fall in love with what I already have, and quit buying stuff I don't need. I don't have specific rules because my brain is already full and I just can't put that much thought into it. Its more like I'm releasing myself from using brain space thinking about shopping. Taking the year off.
I’m so ready! I’ve closed my paypal, ebay, amazon and depop accounts, and i’ve cut up credit card. They all make it too easy for me to buy crap I don’t need🙈
I'm doing a 4 month no buy..... I'm excited to see how it goes! If it's going well ... I might continue it depending on how it's going. These videos will be helpful in my journey! Thanks!
I've adopted a policy of only spending ANY money two days a week, but allowing myself to spend as much as I want on those days. It's led to me being much more intentional about planning what I'll need, and I've saved enough that I'm no longer constantly in my overdraft! Most impulse buy desires dissolve within a few hours (for me), and if I still want it on a Spend Day then I will have had a chance to compare prices, think through what I actually need from the item, worked out if I can get it secondhand or as a trade... But it also means I can avoid feeling angry and hard-done-by and splurging on something truly stupid. I would rather have one expensive coffee a week than wait a month and then buy a cow's worth of organic beef that I'll have to prep and preserve and not even want to eat after the first couple of days.
Good luck ! My goal is to do a low-buy year this year and I'm so happy I already succeeded today when I had the opportunity and temptation to buy a cute plushie. But I was good and obeyed my rules for no more plushies and it's set the course for the year in a positive light 🤗 Thank you for the inspiration and reassurance ! Excited to see how this goes.
I'm in! After seeing my savings growing nicely last year after low buy year I'm doing it again in 2024! I love seeing my money growing in bank account 😁. It will be hard again but I'm in in 100 %!
My niece and I are doing a “no buy” 2024 on cross stitching patterns. We have so many already that we don’t need anymore! We will buy fabric or floss as needed to start/complete what we have.
I'm doing similar with fabric and patterns! More sewing than embroidery for me, but I have a firm "no more fabric til you use what you have!" philosophy right now. Notions or supplies to finish what I've already purchased is fine. And really staying away from patterns too! I have patterns earmarked for most projects, and what I don't, I can draft. Love that you and your niece are joining together on this, community/an accountabilibuddy help so much!
I started my year long no buy on the 18th November after I bought something on 17th November . It’s a year long makeup no buy . I can’t believe it’s been nearly 2 months already since I last bought something , I’m so determined to see this though to 18 November 2024
I’m looking forward to our No Spend year. At the minute hubby out of work. Would like to still be able to put some money into saving no matter how small. And would like a simple life on less. Looking forward to this new journey we’re on.👍
Love the community you've started here! Joined when there was just like 2 000 of us, but this channel have grown so much since then. So happy for you! Keep up the good work! 👌🏻😍
Hi Grace, I’ve literally just finished binging through all of your videos and wanted to tell you that your Channel brought me so much joy and new ideas for how I want to spend my time (as well as my money haha)! Thank you for that! Greetings from Germany!! 🥰
I discovered your channel through your popular no buy video a few days ago and am so so happy I did! I've been hesitant to join the no buy year because I don't think I had adequate mental preparation to start, but I am very inspired to do a low buy season at some point this year, particularly with how gentle and welcoming you are of anyone who's interested. I'm starting off January slow with delaying my purchases and having one day a week dedicated to shopping so that I am forced to think about whether I really want to buy it or not. in the meantime I'll also do more research into your videos and more preparation. so stoked for all your videos throughout this journey and all your videos overall! happy new year Grace! 💌 xoxo
I think that's a fantastic idea!!! even just created a 7 day waiting period for each purchase is a wonderful way to slow down and think about your purchases :)
Include those purchases into your data! The reason you started this challenge was so you could feel safe making those purchases if they were necessary and came up! They just came up earlier than expected.
I started my no buy 3 Days ago and ihn the moment I feel so lucky about it. The last six month I feel so tired buying things so letś see what will happen the next month. Your videos are such an inspiration to me. You are so sweet and I am looking forward to the next video. Greetings from a German Lady and sorry for my bad English.❤❤ Happy new year..🎉
I’m going to try my best to do a no buy/low buy year. I have a notebook ready to go. I pre purchased a few things this week that l wanted. I was honestly feeling physically ill last night thinking about this. I was surprised that my body responded in that way. Wish me luck!!!!
My word of the year btw is CONTENTMENT. I need to be happy with what I already own. It’s all great stuff. I honestly have no reason to always want to buy more…it’s the dopamine for sure!
Day 5 and hanging in there. It’s tough with all these brands now trying to offload their holiday stuff at a discount 😂 I tell myself most of my makeup, skincare, and bodycare is still brand new because damn I’ve barely used it.
Thank you Grace! I’m on a low buy this year and I’ve tried to set all my limits possible. I’m like you, I want to just stop mindless shopping and save that money for my future and future travels. So much more valuable than “things” are those experiences in life! ❤ Happy New Year!
Hey Grace! I am also doing a no buy year and I am grateful to have your channel as a support system. It makes it feel more manageable and possible being able to follow along with someone else doing the same thing. :)
Not sure if what I plan on doing would be considered a no buy/low buy but the plan is to budget for regular needs (green category), save for wants (yellow category), and only use cash on hand for impulse buys (red category). My husband and I take out cash each pay day for our individual wants and we can choose how to spend it. Since the amount is small ($40) it forces me to decide if I want to blow all the cash one immediate item or save it for a bigger individual want. Hopefully this will help me stop the impulse buying on things just because they are cute 😅
I'm doing a low buy but no buy for the last two months of the season as I hope to have my shopping for that season done within the first month of a new season!! Last year I spent 5000 euro on clothing!!! Wish me good luck, I'm going to need it!!!
I ordered sth on my green list today, and put more in my shopping card just out of habit. After I ordered I cancelled all other stuff because I remembered myself what I really need and what not ❤️
I'm so thankful you're doing this. I can relate about the computer sharing - that's no fun! My husband and I share a desk temporarily this year and he likes to use my monitor as a 2nd screen to his laptop but then I can't use my desktop. Very over it!! I think that was an essential purchase for you. I also made some purchases at the end of the year. I realized I didn't have a white tee shirt or a black purse. Essential? No. But I had been wanting both for a long time and knew if I didn't buy it in 2023 I'd be tempted to buy it this year. Oops? Lol I am so nervous to do this as I looooove to shop big time. I have everything I need and more than enough so I just need to work on better habits for my mental and financial health. I hope I can make it!
You're doing a great job leading this Grace! Great timing with this video. After all my uncertainty around whether to start journalling, I'm going to start right now; before I saw this video, I was already tempted in anticipation of clicking on womanswear as I'm about to do some online shopping for my husband who needs a couple replacement items.
Good luck to everyone. I am also committed to a no buy year. Want to save money and use items I already have. It will be hard to play an online game without being tempted to buy.
I am doing a low buy year. I did make a purchase in the sales but it was a need that I 'd already allowed for a portable DVD player. I waited two weeks before purchasing and used a voucher I had too. I'm also going to buy a CD/tape player but not this month. I'm mainly wanting to curb my shopping addiction and reduce my purchases. So I'm allowing only thought out sensible purchases of things I need rather than random crap I don't need.
I'm ready for a replacements only no buy...for the 1st quarter, anyway. I'll reevaluate from there (but likely continue a no or very low buy. I plan on reevaluating quarterly). OF COURSE my blow dryer dies today! Jan. 1st!! I use it daily and being winter, it's a need and fits my replacements only...buuut I really didn't want to make any purchases day one. Oh well. I used a Christmas giftcard, so it was only $0.96 out of pocket...I didn't even add extras to the cart to get free shipping. Hurt paying $6.99 shipping, but better than spending an extra $15 on crap I don't need. Good luck everyone! We can do it 🙌
I’ve already had to buy something from my yellow list (replacements) when our mattress protector literally disintegrated 😅 and I felt so guilty! Even though it was totally “within my bounds” I really struggled with the idea that this made me a failure and we’d only just started. I feel like the emotional side of this will be much harder than I expected 😅
we all have to remember that it's a no/low buy not a no spend!! if it's on your list or a necessary thing that comes up, then it is what it is!! there's a full year left!! (technically 365 left bc it's a leap year!) you're doing fine! 💗 we got this
I fumbled on week one. Kiddo needed new jeans and I got myself a shirt and a dress while we were shopping. Then for my belated Christmas gift my friend surprised me with a trip and I went out to eat several times and went shopping. Now I’m trying to get motivated again after my fumbling.
I’m doing a low buy to control my spending and impulse buying too. I moved recently, and I am still shocked by the amount of replacements and extra products and supplies i have-i filled up two storage bins!! My goal is to use up those two bins, only buy a replacement when I am halfway through the last product, no impulse buying or falling for ads on social media, and no shopping for clothes (shop my wardrobe) or new books. I’m allowed one food delivery a month, and i can spend money on experiences. I’ve downloaded libby and i plan on using my local library.
I am planning on not really buying things this year due to a massive amount of things that we had to spend money on at the end of last year plus we are still paying off a lot of medical bills from some things that happened last year as well. Groceries are a green light but I also know that I need to make sure that I am mot impulse buying snacks in place of spending on other things that I don’t need.
I’m doing a low/no buy January & hoping I will keep up with it for a while longer. I did “already” buy 2 pairs of leggings but those I’m using to replace 2 leggings. One has a hole & is litelly paper thin from wear. Also I’m going to replace a few picture frames because I broke them 😅 definitely will look into the scarcity mindset, thanks for the tip!
One helpful tip when it comes to the lists - I felt a bit overwhelmed like I would definitely forget something so I wrote and highlighted “Any items can be added to the “wish list” and become eligible after x amount of time.” So I have a wish list if I’m having a want/need, I’ll add the item and then if I still want it after xyz then I can purchase.
that's a great rule of thumb!!!
This is a great tip for impulse shoppers! I see things and get influenced too easily, and writing them down has helped me realized I didn’t actually want or need it after all once hours or days have gone by.
@@haemelle definitely agree! I’ve done a “wish list” before and almost all of the written things fizzle out.
I love this idea, but am already struggling with having too many items added to my wishlist! On Day 1!
Same! I have a table on my Notion site where I can add something and it needs to stay for 30 days. I also make a justification for it so I'm not just buying things because they're pretty or seem cool.
It’s going to be tough y’all but we got this!!
I’m not doing a no buy but definitely trying to do a low buy. I’m a mom of two and buying things happens for many reasons but I love this movement. My word for the year is enough. I have enough and I am enough. Enough is enough. ❤
I love this so much!!!! 💗
I like that word of the year ❤
I love this!
I love the word of the year thing! Gonna implement that to my own 🥹❤️
I love this ❤
TIP: Every time you want to spend possibly “trade” with yourself.
Great idea ❤
Super excited for all your updates, makes me feel like I'm not the only one working towards a 2024 no buy :)
we got this!!
Me, too! It feels more fun knowing there's so many people that have joined!
100% feels so good knowing we are in this together! Great group support
I suppawt diz. 😸
My struggles are Amazon and eating out. that's great!!! best of luck this year!! you got this!!
I’m really excited about my “no spend challenge” so I wanted to share something I thought was funny:
I am a known spender and am also an emotional shopper.
Win!
Idk about the cost of a latte where you live but where I live, you would have just saved yourself $8 by having the coffee at home. Go you!
I think it's an important point that even if you do slip up and buy something you don't need, more often than not you can return the item!
so true!!!
I decided to do a low/no buy for 2024 and I broke yesterday. BUT I’m not giving up and restarting today, remembering my why. We got this y’all!
progress over perfection!! you got this💗
I love how you've created this community around the no buy challenge. Thank you for challenging me to take part this year❤
I'm doing a low-buy year, so I'm happy to have a place to come back to stay motivated and accountable! Thank you!
I see this sharing as my commitment for following this :)
So yeah that’s my example of the no buy year. I am really excited to follow along your journey and watch all the updates. I also got your first mail from you today, its so cool :) thank you for being and four sharing on here
this is awesome!!! also you should absolutely start a youtube channel!!
Really excited not to contribute to Trash Island this year! Ty for the inspiration and support!
Yikes! Good luck to all participating.
the kindle and ebook library loan combo has literally turned my reading around like nothing else!!!!
Scarcity Brain by Micheal Easter is excellent and I am reading it now to kick off my no buy year. Let’s do this!
That was so sweet and calm. I could listen to you for hours. Happy new year, Grace.
omg thank you🥹 happy new year to you too!!!
Woo hoo girl you're at 22,000 subs and you totally deserve it. Excited for your content this year ✨️
thank you so much 😭💗
Thanks to you I was able to be honest with myself. Love your content Grace
Edit: my current project is organizing and decluttering our disaster hall closet.
Grace's Tips:
- it's okay to add things as you go, but try to avoid it!
- always think about your WHY - what is your goal through this challenge?
- have a place to let out and process the feelings that come up (journal, notes app etc)
- do some research into the scarcity mindset (the belief that one has limited resources or is unable to provide for themselves or others)
- create a list of free or low cost activities you can do (skating, reading from the library, board games, hiking, free museums, a tea party, baking or cooking, bring snacks to the movies etc)
- remember that every purchase is a choice. create a barrier to access these situations
We've got this!!
i look another commenters advice at the end of november to start now, so that you can get experience and learn before the year starts, SO I DID!!! I have always thought about and tried and quit MANY no buys in the past and this commentor and your video helped me. And i did amazing in December, so feeling much much MUCH more confident and comfortable today. we got this!!
that's awesome!!!!
Thank you!
that's so sweet!! I love to hear that!!
Im excited about this challenge to stop over spending on craft supplies. I have enough to craft with all year. Im a paper hoarder, so this is going to be tough when a new paper pad comes out. Im trying to save more for retirement. I love all of your support❤ thanks
you got this!! think of it as a fun little challenge to use up your stash!! 💗
@gracenevitt I will try my best lol 😆
Good luck! I hope using up what you have will make you more creative ❤️
Idea: use some of your cute paper to make some cash envelopes, cards, and gift card holders, for future gifts. Lots of fun and you actually use it up and not spend anything. I did this a year ago during a no spend. When busy creating, I never thought about spending/shopping. It made it very fun!
@dbartz5510 that's a great idea. Thank you
I'm in this with you, too. Thank you for gathering a community around this no buy year. Woo hoo!
This will be my first no buy year. So excited! 🎉
She's got her own PC! She's a big youtuber now! 🎉
lmaoooo LITERALLY I feel so professional
I'm starting with a no-buy January, since I've never done a "no buy" anything, but I'm excited! I even got my girlfriend and 2 of my other friends to do it with me. your green/yellow/red lists from your prep video were SO helpful
Oh lots of libraries have games you check out too. So learning new games would be a good fun free thing you could do.
Another fellow ‘2024 buy no more’ participant. Thank you Grace for all those tips, so helpful x ❤
I’m readyyyyy! I’m on a no buy and also doing a 100 envelope challenge. Instead of using cash, I pull an envelope and put that amount into my high yield savings account
So happy I found your channel, can't wait to follow along with my own version of a low-buy year :)
I love your rule of 1 in and 10 out! That really makes sure we definitely want it! Good on u for working around your health challenges 💜
I love this! ❤
that's great 💗
I’m so ready!
I can’t believe it’s been nearly 2 months already since I last bought something , I’m so determined to see this though to 18 November 2024
you got this!!!!
omg this makes me so happy😭💗💗 thanks for sticking around🥹
I didnt make vib rouge for this year bc I stopped buying makeup in November! I deleted the sephora app. I need to use what I already have.
heck yeah!! this is the year to use up your stashes!
Hi Grace, I’ve literally just finished binging through all of your videos and wanted to tell you that your Channel brought me so much joy and new ideas for how I want to spend my time (as well as my money haha)!
Thank you for that! Greetings from Germany!! 🥰
omg wow!! thank you!! I'm so happy it helped💗💗💗
My low buy year started off great with me forgetting my lunchbox at home and having to buy my meals for the day at work 😂😂😂
Include those purchases into your data! The reason you started this challenge was so you could feel safe making those purchases if they were necessary and came up! They just came up earlier than expected.
Doing a No Buy challenge too! Loving the journal idea. Writing my thoughts keeps me mindful.
I started my no buy 3 Days ago and ihn the moment I feel so lucky about it. The last six month I feel so tired buying things so letś see what will happen the next month. Your videos are such an inspiration to me. You are so sweet and I am looking forward to the next video. Greetings from a German Lady and sorry for my bad English.❤❤ Happy new year..🎉
best of luck to you!! happy new year🥰
I’m going to try my best to do a no buy/low buy year.
Super Excited for this No Buy 2024! Can't wait to see how things go for the both of us! Happy New Year Grace!
aww yay!!! happy new year to you too!!
I'm so motivated for my no-buy year! Thank you for all the tips & motivation, girl! ❤
❤ Happy New Year!
love this!! happy new year to you tooo🥰
Hey Grace! I am also doing a no buy year and I am grateful to have your channel as a support system. It makes it feel more manageable and possible being able to follow along with someone else doing the same thing. :)
your original video inspired me to do a low-buy year :) good luck everyone!
Your enthusiasm for this project and all the people it has brought to your channel is palpable 😊
thank you🥹💗 I'm so happy that everyone is so invested in this together. it feels really special.
Hopefully this will help me stop the impulse buying on things just because they are cute 😅
this is a great plan!!!
I'm doing a low buy but no buy for the last two months of the season as I hope to have my shopping for that season done within the first month of a new season!! Last year I spent 5000 euro on clothing!!!
Wish me good luck, I'm going to need it!!!
you got this!!! and I will absolutelyyyy be doing monthly check-in videos!
I ordered sth on my green list today, and put more in my shopping card just out of habit. After I ordered I cancelled all other stuff because I remembered myself what I really need and what not ❤️
that's a huge win!!!
youve inspired me! Im doing a low-buy year! (I have a little travel and a baby shower host)
Oops? Lol
I am so nervous to do this as I looooove to shop big time. I have everything I need and more than enough so I just need to work on better habits for my mental and financial health. I hope I can make it!
You're doing a great job leading this Grace! Great timing with this video.
After all my uncertainty around whether to start journalling, I'm going to start right now; before I saw this video, I was already tempted in anticipation of clicking on womanswear as I'm about to do some online shopping for my husband who needs a couple replacement items.
stay strong!!! when you have the urge to buy something, try to journal about the feelings that are coming up! it will help a lot💗
Good luck to everyone. I am also committed to a no buy year. Want to save money and use items I already have. It will be hard to play an online game without being tempted to buy.
I just joined the Discord server. Thank you for creating this community ❤
I love this. I'm doing a No buy year too. LOve this update video ❤
Thankyou so much for suggesting the journal- I think its really going to help - good luck ❤
We can do it 🙌
Thanks for your enthusiastic start. LOVE your delivery and honesty
thank you💗
I’ve already had to buy something from my yellow list (replacements) when our mattress protector literally disintegrated 😅 and I felt so guilty!
💗 we got this
Doing a no buy month 😅😅 nervous but I got this!! Excited for your content about this!!
I fumbled on week one. Kiddo needed new jeans and I got myself a shirt and a dress while we were shopping. Then for my belated Christmas gift my friend surprised me with a trip and I went out to eat several times and went shopping. Now I’m trying to get motivated again after my fumbling.
progress over perfection!! as long as we keep going, we're doing great💪🏼
Very excited for this! Wishing everyone luck and I can’t wait to talk more about the no buy on the discord :)
You have such a beautiful smile! Totally with you on this plan
thank you💗💗
I’m ready! I’ve already unsubbed from all retail emails and socials. Can’t wait!
I just found your channel and I love it so much ❤❤ you are so fun and relatable!!
thank you!! 😭💗 that's so sweet
Yay! I am joining with everyone ❤
Excited to do this together! Thanks for the motivation 👏👏😁
So excited! We’ve got this!!
I look forward to following your journey. Flirting with ‘no buy’ for myself
yay for the algorithm!
do it !!!! 😈💗
I'm so excited! We can do it :)
I was already thinking about buying things I really don’t need. Thank god i saw this, I need to STOP buying stuff!!!
you got this!!!! join the discord if you need more reminders to stop spending!! that's basically all we talk about LOL
