  • At 26 weeks pregnant and with no complications, Lauren was cleared to travel with her husband and son from Alaska to the east coast to visit family during the holidays. A few days into their visit, Lauren experienced a bleeding episode but after hospital observation, was cleared to resume her visit. Unfortunately, additional bleeding episodes occurred and Lauren was diagnosed with placenta accreta, a serious condition that can impact the mother and baby at or shortly before delivery. Through the care of Mary Washington Healthcare’s expert providers and region’s only Level III NICU, an emergency C-section was performed at 29 weeks to ensure the best outcome for Lauren and her baby.
