Comments from the designer! These are also in the klingon subtitles, TURN THEM ON! I have notes there for errors! 1. Asharra the wizard and Birdsong the bard are both female characters. No big deal, just had a few reviewers lamenting that ToA had no female characters. 2. You'll find that the jungle is higher in monsters, representing its endless hordes of creatures, while the Tomb is higher in traps and encounters. You've definitely found an unusually high number of the black triangle tiles in the jungle though. 3. Remember that diagonal counts as adjacent, so Asharra could have hit both the zorbo and the vegepygmy next to Birdsong with the same acid splash attack. 4. For Birdsong's special ability, she doesn't actually disarm the trap, she can just walk over a trap without triggering it (or looking at it) on a roll of 5+.
yea! yeah my suggestions works. I may start doing that to my vids if a time code is in a vid description but viewers pay more attention to a Pinned comment than the description for example. But taking time to do your Klingon subs also puts them in context. Next we'll see if people know how to turn the subs on. (I'm skipping a paragraph return so UA-cam's crazy spacing doesn't show up lol). I'm working on a very unique one with CR as the primary RPG-style storyline with parts from WoA and LoD. I do it with a Wizard who rescues a Cleric so I do the first 1-1/2 parts solo with a lot of different situations then battle Count Strahd. The reason I got the D&D board games in the first place was watching some gamers UA-cam play-thrus which I can tell you've watched some too. They're also not afraid to make mistakes and correct them. It is in fact difficult to do these, talk and move the camera with more than one Hero. Most don't zoom the camera. But yet the simple game system moves along. Actually making some intentional mistakes could get more comments and dialogue lol Looking forward to more ToA adventures. P.S. It's also good you post the vids to BGG. That helped that Kevin Wilson looks at BGG threads. I currently sub to anything that shows up for that game fwiw
Awesome!! You will have to let us know how your conglomeration of the different games work! I really want to do that . . it would be a blast! Thank YOU for commenting and watching! And yes Paul Darcy is pretty freakin' awesome as well as other youtuber's who have done DnD playthrough's. Good luck on your adventures!
That was utterly awesome, thank you: wife and I enjoyed it so much....You have an engaging way of doing your narrative, which makes it really exciting. PLEASE do more of The Tomb of Annihilation, would absolutely love to see more of those monsters.
I wouldn't mind seeing more. After Folklore is done. And Dragonholt. And This War of Mine... ;) And Apex then that you mentioned twice in the video. Don't think it went unnoticed!
Just got the game. Really appreciate your play through to help me run my first game. I am sending my friends here to watch at least the round one video so that they don't have to listen to just me telling them the rules.
@@OneStopCoopShop I am very late to the party with these DnD board games! Hahaha. I quite like that they are rules light and not too fiddly. And now I realise that this video was from over 3 years ago! A lot more dungeon crawler games have been released since then. I see you like Sword & Sorcery? S&S looks pretty cool but a bit too fiddly for me I think.
Diagonal attacks seem totally legit. Increasing XP to cancel, based on the campaign, adds an interesting twist. The bard is definitely the one to go through the traps to get the chest, but it was risky to have him trapped in a dead end like that. Great saving powers (cancel a monster draw, cancel an encounter, etc.) until the end. I think disadvantage doesn't stack, does it? You wouldn't have to roll 3 and choose the lowest. Ooh, like the permanent changes to the treasure and encounter decks. Also the bonus for not having to heal. The treasure and fortune cards you draw aren't replaced? Tough luck that you didn't even get the chance to buy any. A campaign would be terrific, especially to see the changes from the others in the series.
Yeah tons of small upgrades for this one that I really like! You cannot be doubly disadvantaged for sure. Not sure on the town but I wanted the healing. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the enjoyable playthrough. I would like to see the campaign too. I have been thinking about buying one of the games in this series. I like this one the most so far.
Yeah enjoying these. you have an engagin personality that makes up for the oversights ; admittedly its hard to shoot and control more than one hero with all their powers and monsters. for the longest time I forgot abilities and dawing treasure (that one should be on the Sequence of Play cards imho). You get some really good rolls with the dice tower ; You may have recorded this prior to previous vid comments and Kevin Wilson the designer’s comments on BGG. 3:30 yeah like I mentioned in the other video pg 11 of the rulebook “If the tactic requires the Monster to move to a new tile, place the Monster on the new tile’s Monster symbol if the square is empty. Whenever possible, Monsters move from tile to tile by following the Monster symbols. If the Monster symbol square is occupied or the tile doesn’t have one, place the Monster anywhere on the tile.” Ashara’s a female. it says that on her Mage armor card flavor text. The bard is also. Kevin Wilson the game design said that on BGG but they should spell that out on the hero cards imho Vegepygmy = ‘vege (or vega) pig me’ as in ‘little vegitation jungle plant guy with spear’ ; *google ‘pygmy’) but I wish D&D would have phoentic spellings for some Monsters. ‘Vegee’ is a nice knickname you used ; If they’re vegitarians they’d also be canibals lol So viewers know Kevin Wilson commented “For Birdsong’s special ability, she doesn’t actually disarm the trap, she can just walk over a trap without triggering it (or looking at it) on a roll of 5+.” FAQ v1 to clarify for everyone but I think it’s common sense “Adventure 1: The Harvest Mushroom action may only be taken by a Hero that is on the Mushroom Grove tile.” ‘Zobro’ as you say it in the other vid is pronounced ‘Zorbo’. They must be related to Kevin Sorbo ; sometimes I pronounce thing the way I want to like Drizzt. P.S. If this comment shows up looking wierd it’s becaus of UA-cam new comment GUI which sucks lol
Thank you for all of this! So I put the comments from the designer up on the Klingon Subtitles, did you not see it? Yes this comment came out REALLY WEIRD!! I am having a hard time following it!! Let me know if you don't see the klingon notes to correct the issues you mentioned. Regardless thank you for watching!! Love this game, and Kevin is a great designer!
No I didn’t have subtitles on. I thought Klingon was an inside Sc-Fi joke as in the subtitles may not be accurate. I see it’s actually a selection. I still don’t get the joke lol I would copy & paste Kevin’s BGG comments as your own Pinned Comment on this vid and the previous vid is a better way to communicate it imho. It will always show up as the first comment. No work on the part of the viewer. A pinned comment probably even better than putting it the video description. I think more people read comments than descriptions and defnitely turn on subtitles is why. I sometimes turn off annotations. I hate the ones that pop up in the middle of a vid in the top right with a link to another vid ;
Good point I like that! Yeah the klingon subtitles do work great but people keep thinking I am kidding! I did a video about it and everything hahaha. I will post it thanks!!
Very nice, I'll get this game and use the between adventure rules for the other games. Should be easy and make for more variation in them. It will help the players so some help for the bad guys will be used (making smart moves when living, lose a surge token when mving to the next stage/possible lvl up or something. Even just start with 1 surge to make it rough...
That was a good playthrough, shame about the shop items been all flops what are the odds in that! Would love to see another playthrough. Just get this war of mine finished before starting any new ones! I think without that healing song from the bard and also blocking that encounter you may of been in a more dire situation.
Thanks for watching! And yes, TWoM I have Day 5 taped (something cool happens in that one!) just need to edit the blasted thing! I am NOT starting another series of anything until I clean up what I have going. And yes that bard, she is amazing!! What a beautiful song hahaha!
Haha good to hear. I’m joking by the way just hyped for TWoM since I’ve got my kickstarter copy in the post. Well I’m looking forward to this “Cool” thing that happens don’t be letting me down Colin! Beautiful and godly defo saved you this quest!
The canceling counters increase is only if you want to make the game harder. The title in "RED" states "MAKING ADVENTURES MORE OR LESS CHALLENGING" I know this video is 3 years old but people still watch them to this day.
I don't think that's true. The "Making Adventures more or less challenging" is a subheading under "How the Adventures Work". "Cancelling Encounters" is a higher level heading outside that section.
The only thing I didn't see in your play through are the spells cards. Are those easy to use or explained better on a card than the rule book. The explanation in the rule book is pretty thin.
Good question! As I have not yet gotten there myself I have no more information. . Wah Wah. . . Sorry! I think you might be able to cast a spell or gain it somehow in a scenario? Not entirely sure. Hope you are able to figure it out and sorry I am not more helpful!
No to the campaign. The D&D series is old hat now. Folklore, "Apex", etc. are new with limited content available. I realize Apex has been available for awhile but little video content available. Thanks for sharing Colin. On a side note, Greater than Games has been selling copies of Spirit Island on their website and Amazon for a week. None have been available through retail channels. GTG is cornering the pre-Xmas market for their game. Financially beneficial to them in the short term. However, I will remember this next time I might purchase GTG product. They are moving into the Asmodee category with this tactic.
Want to see one with Colin's energy. At the end of the day, Colin should play what he excites him. If the campaign of this game with the deck upgrades is exciting, so be it.
Got you guys, man you both rock! So Apex wil for sure come first, but I do think I will do at least 1 or 2 more of this one as well. No huge rush, just when I need a nice relaxing break! The game is easy to film and I enjoy the theme. Regardless appreciate the feedback, and Grey Board Gamer is AWESOME!

The Tomb Keeper returns!! Just got this game off e-bay for $40. Thanks for the vids!
I would like to see the campaign. Really enjoy your videos.
Got you Don, thanks for that!!!

Thanks so much for watching Stephen, gald you both liked it!! I for sure will do more, I love this game!
Thanks for the cool playthrough! I'd love to see more!
Got you Mario thanks for watching!
Would like to see the campaign continue, thanks for the play through!
Sweet got it thanks for the feedback!
That Juggernaut looks awesome. I want this game just to use that thing in multiple games. Or to just sit on my shelf.
Enjoyed listening and watching you play. I’ll be checking out your other playthroughs for sure!
Thanks so much, Brandon!! Appreciate you watching and enjoying the channel!
I wouldn't mind seeing more. After Folklore is done. And Dragonholt. And This War of Mine... ;)
And Apex then that you mentioned twice in the video. Don't think it went unnoticed!
Hey at least I finished this one! 😁 I am so excited for Apex... thanks for watching Franck!
Thanks for playing mate !
No problem! :)
Yes to another play through of this game.
Got you J!! Thanks for the feedback!
Just got the game. Really appreciate your play through to help me run my first game. I am sending my friends here to watch at least the round one video so that they don't have to listen to just me telling them the rules.

Great playthrough. I'd love to see you do more videos of this game :-)
Thanks for watching! Sadly I sold it after paying through the entire game

I like fantasy adventurer games and so far this game works well. I would suggest keeping it going. Thanks for what you do.
Gotcha thank you for the feedback!
Thanks for the enjoyable playthrough. I would like to see the campaign too. I have been thinking about buying one of the games in this series. I like this one the most so far.
Thanks for the feedback! So far this has been my favorite one by far!
Would love to see you continue the adventure.
Thanks for the feedback will do!!

13:34 - The vegepygmie should have attacked. They can move and attack on the same turn.
I would like to see the whole campaign!

That is really good thinking! Or simply take out some of the heavier hitter's at first and bring them in as you "level" up! Great idea Peter!
Those vegan pygmy warriors are really irritating! :D Btw, i like your intro music! And of course the gameplay!
Really small but really annoying! Glad you enjoyed the music!!
I’d love a full playthrough if you don’t have one yet!
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately I sold it after playing the campaign with my son sorry!
Sweet cripes… its vege- like vegetable and pygmy. LoL.

Oh boy I just don't remember been too long. But I think that's right! You can interrupt movement with actions
No. You have to end your turn on the treasure token.
