That poison dart sound effect totally made me jump!! Things aren't looking too good for your heroes, I can't wait to see if you can wiggle out of this one!
I absolutely love what you are doing with this game. It looks like I will be picking this up (to go with my others) for sure, Nicely done, and immersively narrated :-)
One note about the trap tokens - when you start the campaign, you remove 4 of the "Draw" trap tokens. More will be added as you progress through the campaign.
Thanks for showing this. We always liked WoA but seems we were missing one encounter step. We played ToA today and other than using the advanced cards as well, just having constant encounters at every Villian phase really drags the game down.
Markus! So far, I have only played this once, but I would say this is the best one for sure. The campaign is more fleshed out and there is character development, and even a CITY you can go to between adventures!!
Nice to see the game played. And the new features in action. Looking forward to seeing how the Spell deck is incorporated. I haven’t gotten ToA yet. I have the other four sets. It seems like everyone is springing for the ToA premium edition with the painted minis. I belive Asharra’s ability that states move 1 tile *as though you were a monster* means ending movement on a monster symbol square (space) on a tile. "If the tactic requires the *Monster to move to a new tile*, place the Monster on the *new tile’s Monster symbol* if the square is empty. Whenever possible, Monsters move from tile to tile by following the Monster symbols. If the Monster symbol square is occupied or the tile doesn’t have one, place the Monster anywhere on the tile." - Rulebook pg11 (I added the asterisks for clarification) That’s how a spider swarms and gargoyles move in previous sets for example because they have area of effect attack in a sense ie. their attack affects the enire tile. as opposed to the melee monsters who’s cards say move adjacent to a hero so they don’t have to move to a monster symbol square is the mechanical & thematic reasoning. Fwiw a lot of players use the Monster tokens from Ravenloft (the sqaure ones that look similar to traps in this game) which have 0-4 monsters to place that many. so in effect it acts like ToA multiple monsters on one tile.
in hero phase if there are 2 monsters do you attack both or only one before moving to exploration phase? i have this game and im new to D&D so please help if you can
Have any of you played the digital version of this game? I was wondering if the digital version added a lot to it, or if it presented the feel of the board game very well. I'd like to play the game, but since the digital version is much cheaper and I'd primarily be playing it solo anyway, I thought it might make more sense to go that route.
Totally get that Luke. I do not have the digital version, but think Doug Herring does some playthrough's with the digital version of the game. Check it out!
Hi Colin, during the villain phase, do you only activate monsters and traps that are in front of the active player? Or do you activate all monsters and traps at the end of every players turn? Thank you
I just picked up this game the other day and I am playing it with my kids. When we place a tile, we have only been placing one monster on the icon. Should we be placing a monster on all the icons as you do at the end of this video? I thought those icons indicated optional placement of the monster? I will re-read the rules because otherwise, this seems like a much more difficult game than we have been playing. Great video and thanks for sharing.
Never mind. I re-read the rules and I do indeed place ALL the monsters and ALL the traps! Yikes! Should be interesting when we resume playing. Thanks again for the great video!
Another fantastic OSCS video! Hey Colin do you think this game is worth a buy just for solo play? Also do you think it's too Easy? I've read complaints about that which puts me more on the fence for plunking down the money for the Premium Edition (which is the one I'd want to get if I get this). I'm also considering Masmorra, and Anachrony.. which of these 3 would you recommend Most for solo-only? Or even Xenoshyft Dreadmire - but is that one worth getting if I already have Onslaught? (and is it Easier? I hear Onslaught is almost Too hard. I have it but didn't play yet)
I have this one just for solo play. the game is not difficult, but that doesn't mean it is not fun solo. When I need a break and want to go romping in a dungeon/forest this is the one I pull out! BUT for solo only, with the 3 you mentioned. . . .Anachrony! If you like worker placement with a great theme and tons going on and a GOOD bot to go against, I would go with Anachrony!
If you are afraid of setup/teardown get the meeple realty insert. It is costy but it will make setup take 5-6 minutes. Takedown will still take a bit though! :) Or just leave it on your table for weeks, that could work ha!
This looks like a lot of fun. Have you played the other campaign-style one(s) in the series? I know the earlier ones were just one shots, but I'm pretty sure the last couple have campaign features.
Hey mate another question I’ve been playing it with some mates when i have finished my turn do the villains only attack me or in that turn can they also attack my mates if there close enough? Thanks
Usually the attack will say, attack a hero within a certain amount of tiles. Or it might say ALL heroes in a certain tile range Just gotta look at the attack info!
How does this compare to the other games in the series? It looks like it plays pretty similar. Also, what made you go with the upgraded version? I love your clear audio, you must be doing that all in post production?
I have only played this one 1 time so far, vs. the others at least a dozen or so times. BUT the campaign in this one is getting me more excited than the other 4! I decided to go for the upgraded version just because the game is on camera, and painted mini's look better :) And I got a new mic about 2 months ago (the same one JonGetsGames has) and it is SO MUCH better then what I have used before. I am just trying to get better and better. Next big purchase will be better lighting somehow. . .
One Stop Co-op Shop I don't know what lighting would be best for personal use. We have a bunch of different lights here at work, Omni/Frezzi/lite panels. See if there is a place nearby that you can rent lights from to test out. Or even just ask around and see what lights others use.
In your experience, how much replayability is there in these style games? I've watched through Paul Darcy's games in this series, and they do look quite fun, but each play seems roughly the same as the last.
Good question! The different enemies and tiles do make for a different experience but I get what you are saying it feels a bit samey after awhile. I equate that to any crawler, that if played too many times in a row it will feel samey. Regardless I love this one when I want to just relax and enjoy a good dice chucker!
I thopught I was the only one with issues with these games. I always thought i was doing something wrong. I always roll high for the monsters and low for the heros grrrr
Your videos are the best! I just can’t get into this game, I have wrath of ashardalon , it is wayyyyy to hard, you get swarmed and every turn something bad happens.
I'm very interested in seeing it as a campaign. On a related-ish note, have you seen any RPG-like games, in the vein of D&D Board games, Descent, or Swords & Sorcery, but set in a non-magic setting, for a change of pace? I'm slowly but surely working on creating one, but if there's one that already exists, I'd love to check it out.
Lucas Gentry I’m also working on a couple of new game concepts. If you come across something I’d love to know as well. I’d also love to check out your game as well. 👍🏻

@@storm_blazer-xd983 I think if I understand correctly, there is usually some sort of modifier to the die roll to make it more or less likely you will hit your enemy. For example at 11:09 when there is the quicksand trap you add 3 to the die roll and if it is above your AC you get STUNNED. Does that make sense?
One Stop Co-op Shop yeah I think that makes sense in one of your turns there was the zorbo that has AC of 14 and for the paladin its attack is 9 and you did a 5 or higher I don’t get what that means do you subtract the number to get 5 or higher or something
You certainly could be right! It did say to only activate during your villain phase, but it effects everyone on the tile so I wasn't sure. Regardless it was the "harder" way to play it, so I am OK with it ha!
Hmmm I think I did them at the correct time, but I do not have the game in-front of me. Let me know if you see something in the rules that contradicts what I did and I can check it out!

Thx for watching!
hey when you stun a monster. you wanna remove that stun token at the end of the hero phase. unsure of s yone has said that
Thanks for mentioning that!

Dumb question. Should the biting insects have attacked the straw man as well?
Really curious how this differs from its predecessors! Thanks for doing this, Colin!

I would suggest asking on BGG - I sold this game over a year ago so I do not remember sorry!
One. Each hero can attack once (though this attack, depending on the power, could attack multiple targets).
