Some cults are destructive some are not but yes Abrahamic ideology of religion is a political ideology prone to seeking expansionism which might not be bad but it eradicates another identity. Dharma does not translate to religion - which is adharma, both are anti-thesis, but since we adopted western civilization and language we have to use this false equivalent which is an anti-thesis of each other. Hindu is a civilizational identity, you can be a Hindu through adapting and having Hindu consciousness - the sense of time, history, traditions different than eurocentric narrative (identity-based) or by the following dharma and NOT a religion, so discarding Abrahamic worldview in favour of Dharmic view.

There were similarities between the deities of Greeks, Indians and Japan. In ancient world, the Greek, the mesopotamian, the Egyptian and Chinese culture used to trade with each other. There are rumours that Jesus visited India. Hindus consider Jesus as an Enlightened great Rishi. There were lot of Rishis in India and China who performed miracles similar to that of Jesus, but they did not get too much popular because it was not a big deal in the Eastern civilizations. Jesus said ' The kingdom of heaven is within you' is similar to the concept " Aham Brahmasmi " in Sanskrit. There are lot of similarities between the teaching of Jesus and Vedas. Sanskrit is related to old German and Russian. It is not that India is the only place where spirituality existed. It existed all around the world until Abrahamic Religions became more popular. At present India and Japan the only countries where ancient knowledge and traditions are preserved..It was also preserved in China until the communists destroyed everything.

If one reads Swami Vivekanand’s works one would find he has expounded on Bhakti yoga as well. Also on Srimad Bhagavad Gita. His guru was not Advaitha Vedanti but received realisation through Bhakti. Upanishads list karma, gyan and Bhakti yoga as stages and for realisation of the form or formless one traverses through all three like it or not.
As far as adopting the word Hinduism, apart from the excellent reasons already given, I think it is important to adopt it also so that Hindus receive religious protections guaranteed to other religions. If you see there are several places where Hinduphobia is not even recognised while at the same time several religious texts explicitly mention things like ‘kill the polytheist’ or talk about false gods and ‘some’ of their followers vow to kill or convert Hindus. Please also note there is a concerted attempt by some opposed to Hinduism to prove Hindus don’t exist and thereby white wash their various genocides. So for the sake of life and health of our families we should probably adopt both Hinduism and Santana Dharma wholeheartedly
Also I think I heard somewhere the word Hindus came about due to Sindhu river and Himalayas

:) trying to understand ‘Hinduism’ as a religion is a false start and bound to leave the person falling...
To understand ‘Hinduism’ one has to first think of a Library with sections and books ...and any library it’s worth will have multiple representation of thoughts and by nature they will have some contradictions and disagreements...the sum total of that library is Hinduism. The other important aspect of a library is that if it is timeless it will keep adding books.
In Mahabharata, when answering to the Yakha(the lake god) about who is a Brahmin he said ‘No single seer(Rishi) has the complete 100% truth and no two seers have the same 100% views, they have some differences’ :)

Probably the World Congress of Religions would not have been able to comprehend true Krishna Bhakti,or Shavism or anything like the complexity of spiritual paths that you very briefly alluded to but an umbrella term like Hinduism with a formless absolute was something they could get more of a handle on and so Vivekananda actually did pave a way for a more complex and deep understanding and practice of Vedantic spirituality in the west in decades to come.

@@sevadas3959 I have only watched a couple of his videos but I was aware that he is opposed to Advaita Vedanta. All ISKCON devotees are. My understanding is all the Vaisnava Bhakti traditions have at least some level of opposition to some aspects of Sankara's non-dualism, even while incorporating other aspects of advaita into their own philosophies (though I'm not really an expert in any of this). I was actually somewhat impressed by how he had toned down his criticism compared with what I have heard from some other ISKCON devotees and thought he made some points intelligently while trying to be a bit more diplomatic and less aggressive. That's why I thought it might be worthwhile leaving a comment, as I did.
I am also well aware of some of the internal problems and dysfunction within ISKCON. I was myself heavily involved in ISKCON from the late 70s to mid 80s, probably the worst time to be involved from the point of view of being like a dangerous cult. I think your appraisal of ISKCON as "just another sick cult" is too harsh by quite a margin though I won't pretend there are problems also.

Shortly afterwards he passed away and I felt the leadership was becoming harsher and more exploitative and so I walked away and was able to do so with at least a good part of my faith still intact. I still know people and have friends from that time who stuck it out within ISKCON and other groups coming from the same tradition, and who for the most part seem to me to be good and balanced people. So that's what I was trying to defend.
I hope you have or will find some form of healing leading to a much happier and fulfilled life in the future.

With all due respect, you seem to not know or have read about Swami Vivekananda. Whatever you have shared about your perception of his thoughts or motive is not based on facts or knowledge. I'd encourage you to read about the same. I've read quite a lot about him and his works. I'm a devout Sanatan Dharmi and I'm also myself a Krishna devotee beside also being a Shakht devotee. Moreover, I've read 2 commentaries of Bhagwat Geeta (the most popular ones worldwide). Your views about Swami Vivekananda and his alleged motive as per you and difference between Vaishnavas and Advait Vedantis is creating factions between us. There sure is difference between various disciplines within Sanatan Dharma but there has always been Mutual respect between the two. The way you said made it look more like a fight between Abrahamic faiths which call themselves as we are the one and only. And that certainly is not the case with our Dharma. Still rest of the content was great. Hare Krishna! Hari Om! 🙏🏼

No matter what you think about Swamivivakananada, he is one of the most respected, worshipped, honoured and followed Sanyasi specially among youth. And he was there to inform people about hinduism so he did in one way, may be because that was practised by him. But no doubt his way is also a part of Hinduism.

It’s not a religion to give you limited identity and just believe one book you will get heaven not like that . Your life is your Karma . Sarve Jana sukhino bhavanthu. Swami Vivekananda did a great job of explaining ‘Hinduism’ to a world who never knew anything about it. The early Jesuits who traveled to India, Tibet etc in order to bring the Christian ‘good news’ fell under the spell of the beauty & wonder of the ‘Mother of all Religions.’ Jesuits brought the ideas from Sanatana Dharma & Buddhism that took root in the Enlightenment in the West.

Well, Sri Krishna mentioned in Gita... Basically 4 major ways as Path of enlightenment to attain Moksha eventually..i.e, Bhakti Yog, Jnana Yog, Karma Yog & Raja Yog...One can choose any to follow any..As All R equally Valued.
Vedanta Also Explains about all the other paths Including Karma yog Bt Majorly focus on particular path Just like Shivaism & Vaishnavism Focus on Bhakti yog. Bt Karma & righteousness Dharma is basically the fundamental root things of any being within Sanatan Dharma.
In Sanatan Dharma one can be Monotheistic, Polytheistic or Atheist. Majority Sanatanis follow & Believe in Polytheistic form of it even if not belong to Advaita Vedanta, thus practices & Philosophical belives resemble most with Vendanta...While Many Sanatani follow Monotheistic form of it Like Vaishnavism, Shivaism, etc. While there's also Nasthik or Atheist Hindu & there's actually School of thoughts or School of Hindu Philosophies Specifically Based on Atheism way within Sanatan Dharma as well.

1 thing i like and 1 thing i dislike about this video.
Like: He seems to have studied other schools of hinduism and have chosen his path after research and his commitment to it. Unlike most native hindus.
Dislike: The fact that he is not appreciative of other philosophies. I mean i don't want to see a shia-sunni kind of divide in Indian philosophies, where one feels the other is stupid or not correct.
There are many paths to the truth.
Great job sir, but i am sorry just got this dismissive tone from the video.

Sri Vivekananda was the first to introduce the "Hindu" religion to the supposedly modern world, maybe for the first time ever, at the Conference of World religions at Chicago. He was a follower of the Advaita Vedanta, which is just one of the many sects of Hinduism that is on record. There is a very healthy respect between all the various beliefs with a positive and constructive dynamic interchange of thoughts taking place, all the time....quite unlike the various sects of Christianity or Islam.
Sanātana Dharma says it so truthfully, the paths maybe many, but all paths lead to the One and only.

But i'm also worried about cultural appropriation by the west. For example, Yoga in many places in the west has been assimilated. People practice Yoga, but when you ask them about Hinduism, the first thing that comes in their minds is the caste system. In the vyavaharika sense, Indian culture/Hindu identity is getting attacked and assimilated by western cultures.
