Top reasons I’m quitting landscaping

  • Hello, everyone! Today, we're discussing a topic that's important to a lot of us: quitting landscaping. If you've ever considered this, you're not alone. So let's dive into the reasons why someone might choose to leave the landscaping profession.
Firstly, let's talk about the physical demands of the job. It can be strenuous, with constant bending, lifting, and carrying heavy loads. This can take a toll on your body over time, making it difficult to maintain good health and well-being without proper rest and recovery.
Secondly, the unpredictable nature of the work can be challenging. There are many variables at play - from weather conditions to unexpected obstacles on the job site - that can make it tough to plan ahead and stick to a schedule. This unpredictability can be stressful for some people who prefer structure and organization in their lives.
Thirdly, the financial aspect of landscaping may also be a factor. It takes time to build a client base and a reputation in this field, which can make it difficult for newcomers to make ends meet while they establish themselves.
Lastly, there are personal factors that might influence someone's decision to quit landscaping. For instance, they might want more time with family or decide to pursue other passions or careers that align more closely with their interests and skills.
In conclusion, quitting landscaping is a personal decision that requires careful consideration of all aspects of your life. If you find yourself struggling with any aspect of this career path, remember there are resources available to support you in making positive changes in your life.
Thanks for tuning in today! If you found this video helpful or if you have any insights on quitting landscaping or other career paths that we could cover in future videos, please let us know in the comments section below. My brother in law retired at 60 on a million pound pension he worked for Kelloggs all he dose now is travel the world his job was a packer with 10 weeks holiday pay .I'm a self employed gardener and still working at 74. There is no pension, no holiday pay have regularly cortisone injections in my knees and shoulders being self employed is hard if I worked for the council as a gardener, I would have got a good pension so I don't blame you calling it a day at 54 I've watched all your videos. I completely understand every point you’ve made. I packed in my own jobs and now work as a sub contractor for bigger companies in town and never looked back. The money’s great and you don’t have to do any leg work to get the projects in or deal with clients. The main contractor supplies all equipment and materials and takes on the risk of underpricing. I make more now than I ever did doing my own jobs because I chronically underpriced myself. The main contractors I work with work for wealthy clients who can actually afford the work. Folks local to me simply can’t afford decent landscaping projects so you end up working for nothing.

Scott I can relate to so much of what you've said .The work and everything that goes into it to give people a quality job consistently and then always trying to improve on that .Then being the boss and business man its incredibly hard work .Nobody realises it and the money you receive for doing all of it doesn't justify the effort. They say hard work doesn't kill you it doesn't it just cripples you as you get older.
Always been the same hurdles for me Scott your not alone .Your one of the best out there mate we'll keep in touch ive no dought you'll be a success on the outdoor cooking areas and best of luck.

I sold my own Landscaping business two years ago, I run the business for 34 years. The biggest problem I had the whole time of being in business was STAFF what a nightmare! We always paid well above min wage, provided everything, vans, tools, etc. My business was really successful, loved my job, but hated running a business and mainly because of staff. You are going the right way, do jobs where you can rely on yourself only. But do put some aside from every job for the tax man. it's not worth the Hassel and you can't charge the revenue interest.

Absolutely nothing wrong with just being honest with yourself, laying pavers etc is back breaking work and should pay better, I’ve done small projects myself and got pretty good and laying pavers and mitre corners/edges but we just had a pool installed and we paid someone else to do the pool paving because I know how labour intensive it is, plus I’m 41 with a pinched nerve in my arse.
Great videos and I have enjoyed watching them mate, good luck with the new idea doing outdoor cooking area, I actually think it’s a fantastic idea, bit less labour intensive and can chart a decent price plus job satisfaction, I’m currently setting up our outdoor kitchen here in Australia.
