And don't say you need a diesel for towing a caravan as they aren't really that heavy compared to the tow vehicle unlike a roadtrain which needs a diesel to actually get moving, people have been towing with petrols for decades with no issue

Don't believe me research it. 20yrs ago no doubt diesel was the best option but these days the petrols have gotten so much more advanced that the advantages of diesel are negligible. Unless you're towing actual big loads (3.5t+ which these utes aren't designed for) petrol is better than diesel for the everyday driver

Front and back, this is an ugly vehicle. The previous models looked more business like front and back. The manufacturer made an ugly vehicle and increased the price, hows that for you! The engine choice is brilliant.

Nice review. The 4-cylinder engine is great. Needs to be offered in Panamerican, or better still lower spec Amaroks. ie: Ones that have 18" ATs and Sports Bars as options so they can do some real work. To pay 89k on the road for it in Queensland is a lot! I'd have to spend another 10k to get it to compare with what my Amarok V6 Highline MY17.5 has. It came with sportsbars, and I bought roll'n'lock and Rhino Racks and ladder racks for another 10k. I doubt if you could even add some of these options to the Aventura. Ford really has got some better options in terms of capability across the range and configuration choices. Lots of QC issues with the rangers though. Lets hope VW don't have those ... Also why don't Ford offer this engine too?
What's 80K these days, esp for someone like a tradie who makes it a tax deduction. Most tradies I know are earning 3-5K a week so this is not that much money these days (and a few of them are driving F150/250 and Rams which are like 150K+)

I think many aussies have forgotten what its like to drive a smooth ,quiet and quick ute or 4wd as there hasn't been too many options as everything has been diesel, i really hope the new prado has a petrol option.
I know it’s kind of off topic but my Mrs and her mother both have Kia sportages. The Mrs one is Diesel and her mothers is Petrol, and I’ve always been pro petrol for power smoothness and quick off the mark. But bloody hell the petrol version is a shit box compared to the diesel. The diesel is quicker off the mark and pulls like a 14 year old school boy, whereas the petrol dies in the arse. They are both the same model year and spec just ones petrol and the others diesel. And to add insult to injury the diesel is getting better fuel economy. Going back a bit I had a V6 petrol Hilux and was getting rounded up by the 3.0 diesel variants, which was bloody demoralising to say the least and to top that off I nearly had to tow a mini tanker around to keep the fuel up to it. That really sucked so I ditched that ute. I was shattered, my hopes for petrol being better were crushed!. There’s possibly plenty of other vehicles on the market where this is not the case but these are my personal experiances with them!
Fuel consumption is very bad on these new amaroks and rangers. My old model v6 amarok is a work Ute, ladders on roof 100% and Carry at least 500kg and uses 8.2l per 100km
The 2.3 is a base engine in the US ranger. I can't believe Volkswagen is flogin these off at the same price as a v6 turbo diesel for $80k plus on road. Tell em there dreamin.

I think the 4cyl option is great given all the DPF issues with Diesels. Great option for inner city families who want to explore over the weeks. I think VW need to offer this in lower spec. 21inch wheel is too large for a "ute" a vehicle thats designed to go off road at the end of the day. 17s or 18s with ATs would be more suitable. Styling is simple and refined. Not every ute has to scream rough and aggressive off roader
Just need one of the double cab ute makers to bring out a punchy turbo petrol in a low spec model for around the 50-60k mark and watch them fly out the door. People are sick of the diesel Grenades costing them thousands and still being slow as shit. A base or low spec ranger with the raptor engine, 50mm lower suspension, some bright colours and trim… could even call it a xr6t… Watch them sell.

The engine does not share its fundamentals with the Focus RS or FN Mustang, both of which have the Gen1 2.3L EcoBoost. The Amarok uses the Gen2 2.3L EcoBoost, which is also used in the SA Focus ST, and a 2.0L version is used in the current Escape
This is $79,990 plus on road costs & the Ranger Raptor is $86,790 plus on road costs. The extra $7k for the Raptor is a no brainer! VW have priced the Amarok range far too high.
Dam can't wait to drive the Ranger here in the US with the TTV6 gas motor. If it comes in hybrid with that engine here Ford will sell a million of them.
Whilst I thought it was your customary thorough review with no holding back, Paul, I'm not sure taking a brand new vehicle to somewhere with a laptop and a lot of attitude and little else to chip tune it is a good thing: firstly, if engine sound is important to me, I'll buy a car with that, not pay extra to have my warranty voided (does VAG have a lenient reputation regarding warranty claims?). Furthermore, I hardly expect a team of engineers who have worked for years developing the engine to have done such a bad job that a change of parts/programming will do anything other than hobble some other aspect of the engine. But to summarise: poor economy, poor quality of assembly, poor ergonomics in the cramped interior, poor suspension tune, fast in a straight line but without good enough brakes to stop it well. For $80k plus ORC plus the mandatory snorkel, bull-bar, winch, tow bar, driving lights, and suspension lift, it seems like rather poor value-for-money to me.

Why is this a thing. It's a ute. What does 0-100 matter? If you want a 4*4 you want lots of torque at 1000rpm, if you want a work ute you want space and load capacity. If you want 0-100 you want a sports car that can do a great lap at your local track.
It’ll be a great tow vehicle. Will just use a bit of fuel. Petrol are the most fun to tow with. So much get up an go off the line and you don’t lose it on the hills like a diesel.
I would love to see a Jimny and a Raptor on that bumpy road 😆 Also, an Amarok "GR Sport" spec with lower suspension, sportier tyres and this engine with some tuning just make sense for the Amarok.

VW build quality is hit and miss anyway so nothing will change. I test drove about a dozen Amaroks before I brought the one I own and they all felt different to drive and some of the trim fit was pretty ordinary. Because of the km I do I wanted a comfortable ute and the Amarok seems to be the best in class for comfort
With a price tag of 80 grand you would have to be either rich or stupid to pay that amount for this thing. Look at all the plastic components on this thing,the cars being made these days just don’t last,the quality has gone down hill and they are made with a lot of planned obsolescence.
More petrol twincabs in the workhorse range are needed. Diesel motors have been suffocated by emissions laws. Petrol is the future for ICE.

It’ll be a great tow vehicle. Will just use a bit of fuel. Petrol are the most fun to tow with. So much get up an go off the line and you don’t lose it on the hills like a diesel.

24 minute mark of his raptor review. Handled it like a champ - the offroad suspension it uses ate up the bumps.

I thought it was a V6 Petrol Turbo. Bummer. Needs paddle shifters & a sport mode.
Of course it’s nicer than the diesel. Diesel vehicles are boring - petrol is always more exciting.
Just order it with 18” wheels and lose the 21” street wheels.

Sharing a platform with a ford will introduce built quality issues.
Combination VW and Ford ...be the best of both BAD worlds.
VW build quality is hit and miss anyway so nothing will change. I test drove about a dozen Amaroks before I brought the one I own and they all felt different to drive and some of the trim fit was pretty ordinary. Because of the km I do I wanted a comfortable ute and the Amarok seems to be the best in class for comfort
With a price tag of 80 grand you would have to be either rich or stupid to pay that amount for this thing. Look at all the plastic components on this thing,the cars being made these days just don’t last,the quality has gone down hill and they are made with a lot of planned obsolescence.
