Thanks, for the information. I never heard of this, until last week. I live in a small town in PA and I know we have some in our area, so I am going to take my son and we are going to go find some. By reading the comments, I am learning how to plant the seeds uphill, too. That might be a good video, since the commenters are so rude, and they think that no one should ever be able to make money. You are replenishing as you go, that is wonderful. Thanks, again.
Thanks, man. I've been looking for a video that explains in simple terms how to find ginseng, and what to do with it. All the other videos I've tried have a lot of unnecessary talking, poor camera work, unclear instructions, or it seems like they're skipping important steps. It's like they're showing off more than teaching, or trying to keep parts of harvesting a secret. This video had none of that. Good stuff.
Whoever is filming that needs to stop moving the camera around and get closer to see a picture of what the leaves looks like. And you should not Harvest all of it otherwise there will be none left next year. Just a little constructive criticism.
It's amazing how God gives us natural, safe & free medicinal (& all around good for you) plants / herbs / roots! The fact that you can use and sell it is fantastic, and that ginseng value in a good year, woohoo! Blessed are we through Him that provides for us.... thank you Lord. thx for another relaxing & informative video & trip through your woods Jared! Kiss & hug your ladies for me :) No problem there, right?! Hope to see you again soon.
My woods at my house is eat up with this stuff. 400 acres of the lot. Golden root as well. Some seng plants out here are well over 50 years old. The 70s didn't touch this area 💵💵💵💵💵
I watched quite a few different people hunting ginseng online... watching your video for some reason gave me a good perspective of the environment im looking for. Ive done plenty of research for a couple years now on the climate and environment the roots habitat is, but whenever i tried looking it was always in late fall, DIDN'T KNOW THEY TURNED GOLDEN in late fall! no wonder i never successfully identified them. Im going to hunt here in august and record the location while they still have berries then harvest when its the legal time. Anyone know a good app for recording coordinates without service or data? Also, everyone slowly digs the root out with a gardening shovel. I forget exactly what type of shovel your using, but that made digging it up so much easier... glad i got one, thanks for the tidbit of common sense i neglected to consider.
When I dig mine I'm going to use a fork. In my opinion, a shovel of any kind is more apt to slice through or break it in some way. I'll loosen around it with a garden fork then use my hands.
What state are you sengin in? I'm from Southern WV, I see a good bit scouting deer and hunting turkey. A fraction of the ppl seng now compared to my dad and grandad's generation.
How can I contact you for more info on this. Dad and his generation have been looking for something like this all there lives. Would make perfect birthday presents for them. As with licensing, will canadian ones work ?
Can they sometimes have a pinkish tinge to them? We built a fence and disturbed the soil and found roots that look just like this, but some had a pinkish hue, but very light.
Love to know more about if you have Ginseng available. Parents have been trying go get hold of some natural grow ones (old generation folklore traditions etc)
Taking it all? What are you talking about? I didn't know you were out there looking over my shoulder. But, since you know everything I guess you already know that I plant one pound of ginseng seeds every fall. Will you be offended if I said you are an idiot?
Does it matter if your in the mountains or a hilly area I went yesterday first spot I went in the mountains (Appalachian foothills) I found a lot and then a higher spot on the same mountain I didn’t find any
You should be teaching people about how to harvest responsibly. If you are wild harvesting you should only take 1/3 of what you found. NEVER take everything you find.
Jing Luo. Cultivated plant's will Never have the Chemical compounds found in it's Wild ancestors, Similar BUT Not the same . +soo ronald NO, the plant will have red seeds that need to be replanted if they are still there. Often times they have already fell off, or critters ate them before they dropped. It is the law to replant the seeds.
I've seen roots on one prongs bigger than four prongs. The digging laws, are just to keep the poor man down, laws, such as you can only dig from September 1st till December 31st, up north where l live, you're lucky to find any by mid October, they say this is in order to keep it from going extinct, which is a lie, the best way to keep it from going extinct is to let people to start digging in August, when the berries turn red, then the digger needs to take them uphill and plant them a couple of inches below the soil, wild turkeys and deer ( among other forest denizens ) are the biggest danger to the plants extinction, they eat the berries... No berries, no future plants. But, the laws in place, are to keep the poor, poor, if one can go out in the woods and make as much as an attorney or doctor, has to be stopped. There are plenty of places, deep in the woods, where no one has ever been ( perhaps some Indians ) that ginseng is thriving, if naturist want it to thrive in more abundant places, let the diggers get in there, before the animals eat the berries, then ginseng will never go extinct.
@@danielsmith6628 I agree with ya, but they still will germinate and grow after being ingested and then expelled by the animal that which are the seeds, right? I've seen a lot growing along side of deer trails...
If you're using the root for personal use and not selling it there is a way to plant it back. If you will cut where the growth rings meet the root then the ring section can be planted back in the hole you just dug. Ginseng will have another nub like stem for the next season beside the stem that was up.
Tom Davis nah, I deal with trespassing ginseng diggers frequently, and my land is my business. There’s a foul culture among too many ginseng diggers, that if they can get away with stealing someone’s ginseng, then there’s nothing wrong with it. Trespass and theft are not innocent crimes.

Just reading your comment. I am newbie on this but my dad(91 yrs old) insist or wish to find some. He believes in it. Let me know how i can contact you if you have any. Ty
Nice video but please for nature try to burry the stem after harvest! Maybe leave 1/2 inch of root. Idk people are going to people in this capitalist society but remember what keeps everyone alive
It doesn't restart from the stem silly, you have to plant the berries, UPHILL!!! Only way it can get back started uphill is if a critter shits it out up there.
What are you talking about, several hundred dollars a pound for the dried root. Just a handful of buyers for dried stems across the country. A person would be hard pressed to find a buyer. If you have one please share his contact info
I'm sorry, why are you out there "teaching" people how to find this stuff when you're not harvesting it properly, taking no care whatsoever for those that are NOT mature, taking the leaves off and tossing them and keeping such small roots? How many tiny roots you need to get a pound? VERY SAD that you're not leaving any to get older. :(
Nancy thanks for your input. Lets not consider the thousands of seeds I plant every year. Oh, by the way these are legal plants. Find me a market here in Illinois for the leaves and I will happily sell them. Don't be sad, be happy.

to Asian beliefs, ginseng root should be harvested slowly. Otherwise the root can run

Can you buy seeds and grow some so that you don't kill all of the ginseng that you dig up? That way years later you'll be able to pick more?

Has a lot of do to with shade. North facing hills are best.
Just ran into another patch in Iredell County. Never found it so close to home. Very surprised
YOu could hardly see the dried dried ginseng at the end, but besides that, good video.
