- Overnight protests in Georgia have continued into the morning in a last-ditch effort to prevent the passing of a controversial law.
After a standoff with protesters outside parliament in Tbilisi, security forces pulled out from the main square on Monday morning.
The protesters oppose a controversial foreign influence bill, described by critics as the "Russia law".
The final voting on the bill is scheduled for Tuesday.

There are some who are questioning of putting such importance to this law .
In any other situation,yes ,it wouldn't be this much of a problem per say ,but considering everything including that this exact law was abused in Russia and how lenient Georgian rulling party is towards Russian politicking,yes - passing this specific law will open up flood of truly problematic situations.
Georgian people are afraid and tired and angry,the past 300 years the land of Kartvelians has become the battlefield between Western and Eastern politics. The country is not big large or powerful by any means,but it is deeply loved by the Kartveli people themselves. We have had our wars and we have had our loses , but to bow once again ? Just the thought of it is too bitter after centuries of fighting for survival- Kartvelian people and the land of Kartvelians is one of the longest standing nations in the world. This not being stuck up or ignorant or braggart - we stood against the grain of time and change and our hearts still sing songs of our land of freedom.

On its face, I can see why a government would want to protect itself from foreign interference. I know. I live in US. But I imagine there are those who will game this for personal gain. The more government is involved in regulating the people, the more opportunities for corruption. The working citizens suffer.

I can't understand why the people are protesting against financial transparency in their country. I'd certainly like to know how much any external country influences the British political system so I can't understand their reasoning.

Read the FARA, it's completely different. What do you even mean by "such" law, being so vague about something like this is how misinformation is spread, your knowledge is very limited... If two laws are not the same, they are not similar, and FARA is far from this law. If you want to outline 2 biggest differences (there are more): 1. FARA has a framework, which centers around SPECIFIC foreign powers (Iran, Russia, etc...), and that framework cannot be changed, this law doesn't have it, it's basically a blank slate and can be used as the government wills, they can paint literally anyone (individuals and businesses, not just NGOs) as foreign agent, FARA doesn't have that mechanism. 2. This law enables the complete crackdown on NGOs which are absolutelly crucial for every developing country, especially in education and healthcare, the government is ready to sacrifice long term prosperity of the country for a quick injection of Russian cash. Please educate yourself before embarrassing yourself online.

The only thing in common between two laws is their names. Russian law makes you a 'foreign agent' (in russian language 'agent' means 'spy' or 'enemy') even if you are a regular citizen and have never been financed from abroad. You need only to say something russian government don't like, and then you will be punished. For example, it's forbidden to work in educational system, and teachers get fired after receiving foreign agent status

I have read a law, I don't know do people who comment here do the same? Main idea of law is to make transparent expences of Not profit oriantiate (Not physical individuals, LLC ) organizations who get donations more than 20 % from outside country. If they will not do that they will have penalties yearly 3000 USD, it will not be considered under criminal law, organizations will not be closed. All organizations who are getting donations from outside more than 20 % will be called Foreign Organization (name) Interest representative in Georgia. Why it will impact our Integration in EU? Why it is Russian law nobody explain?
I have read it to. It is simillar to Russian 2012 year version, we all now how it end there. Main idea of law is demonise and intimidate everyone who is against government. This is how it happend in Russia and will happen in Georgia. This is much bigger than one law or even joining EU. They already introduced other laws which will make money laundering easier; started talking about creating "morality" databases etc. They are dragging us back into the dictatorship that we barely survived. This is also making us poorer (a lot of people will lose jobs and we already have huge unemployment and immigration caused by it), which makes us more susceptible to russian influence.
